Ok perhaps a little extreme, but I really feel that Resort Guests should get some sort of preference to watch Wishes. Why should the chairs, lounges, hammocks, etc. be used by non-resort guests? Let non-resort guests watch from a less preferred area. Am I wrong?

Curious what others think

I disagree with you, but you're certainly entitled to your opinion. I doubt that Disney would do anything that would discourage non-resort guests from visiting any of their resorts. And spending money on restaurants, bars, shops. Viewing Wishes from the resort is a huge draw in the evenings. Costs Disney nothing. In return lots of people are willing to spend $$$ on drinks, dinners, etc. Why would they want to restrict this?

I absolutely agree with you . :thumbsup2 I was reading on another board how this 4th of July a non-resort family was basically on the patio of resort guest blocking their view that they paid for. I guess they sent for security or something like that they established the family of 12 were not guest, they asked them to leave or move over, they refused and nothing more was done. I am not sure how accurate this story is but it seemed legit to me. I know I would be furious if this happened to me. If you want viewing space on the Poly beach for the 4th or any busy time then you need to be willing to pay for it.

I didn't say discourage from visiting. But why should a non-resort guest be sitting in a chair while a resort guerst is standing. Why not save the chairs and some areas for guests?

I totally agree with you. IMO the pool area, resort amenities are for resort guests period. Restuarants and shops no big deal but the other stuff not cool for non guests. We are going to be at the Poly next week---

Does this include non resort guests that are eating at the Cali grill and other such restaurants? Personally I think they are paying a good amount for the view and deserve to watch it from lookout areas.

I am curious as to why people think buying a meal entitles a person to using the resorts beach? I forgot this is one of the main things that annoys me about the Poly. Maybe they should wristband the people on the beach--LOL.

IMO that is part of the restaurant and the Cali Grill is at the Contemporary? I can't imagine just going to the Cali grill and viewing the fireworks without eating? Do people do that?

No sorry for not clarifying, I meant should the people who are eating at the Cali grill but are not contemporary guests still be allowed to view wished from the special viewing area

I guess I agree. The people paying the extra money to stay at those resorts should get preferred viewing areas. I guess its like everything else, you get what you pay for. I don't have a problem with that.

what's great is you can find a 17 page thread similar to this on this board from 2004...same arguments, every year!

I would think of the lookout area as a feature of the restaurant not the resort, so if you're eating at CG then the view is yours to enjoy if you are not eating there(resort guest or not) then you don't use the lookout area. But I am a little unsure because I have never actually seen the look out area( no way would I want to be up that high-LOL) I have also never stayed at the Contemporary do they encourage guests to use that area?

Lol! We ate at the Cali grill last time we were at WDW, even though we weren't staying at the CR. It has a balcony that is connected to the restaurant that faces the castle and speakers that play the wishes music so you can enjoy the full experience. I was just curious if people thought eating at the CG earned you a front row seat to view wishes like a contemporary guest.

Contemporary guests cannot use the California Grill balcony. To access the balcony you have to show a California Grill receipt from that evening or be eating in the restaurant.

Contemporary guests and anyone else visiting the resort can use the 4th floor viewing area which is separate. Of course you could always book an MK view room to guarantee a private balcony.

I think it would be hard to police something like that if there are a lot of folks watching the fireworks.

No, I don't think they should try to keep non-resort guests from viewing at the monorail resorts.

Doesn't bother me in the least.

I get the opinion, but with a company as adverse to guest confrontation as WDW, I can't see them hiring "beach police" to kick all the unwanted non-guests out of the chairs at fireworks time.

I did hear that this year they had some kind of policy like that for the 4th of July, turning away non-resort guests, but that was to keep large crowds down, not reserve the lounges and benches and hammocks for guests.

That's not what I said. I said there should be restricted access to certain areas and certain amentities for which WDW charges resort guests a fair amount to stay there.

I don't see why those resorts DON'T do wristbands already. We usually stay at the S/D these days (more our speed, less kids since we don't have any yet and more modern/great location/starwood points) and even there they don't have a policy but I have seen in my probably 40 visits, that those guests without the towels you get when you show your room key will occasionally get questioned (or I've seen it twice, but I HAVE seen it). I don't see what the big deal is, you pay for an ammenity and get to fully enjoy it. Seems like a great way to keep the deluxes filled. I wish they'd build some more, like any time now on the monorail or Epcot area...any time. I'm ready to try something new!
