Ban Fish-Nibbling Pedicure

I did it a couple years ago overseas. It's actually very pleasant (especially with a nice glass of wine).

But with the fish, your feet are in the same water as everyone else before and after you. Fish are living organisms, and who is to say that they are not swallowing all that dead skin.

Um, it stands to reason that they ARE swallowing all that dead skin -- why else would they be chewing on it? I don't think it's like chewing tobacco, you know?

There are species of fish whose entire reason for being is to eat hippopotamus poop. I would think that if you're a fish, the dead skin from human feet has got to be a step up.

As for the politician, I think that he really should have something more important to worry about. Have the health department lay down some cleanliness rules regarding how often operators have to clean tanks, etc., and let it go.

When I first heard about these pedicures, I have to admit I had to swallow down a little puke. So nasty!!!!

I hate anyone touching my feet let alone some scaly and slimy water breather!

EWW. What kind of thing do they put your feet in? I'd be afraid they'd nibble off my alive skin.

Agreed.

Regulate them to make sure that some reasonable standard is met. Beyond that, people who don't want their feet nibbled can figure out how to avoid sticking their feet in the tank.

I'm pretty sure the water is not fish poop filled. LOL I belive that they remove the fish and put them back in clean water when each person is finished with the nibbling part. That said I'm not sure I want fish nibbling on my feet at all....I love a good pedi (just had one a week ago) but not a fish pedi. :) I agree with the PP who suggested regulations, they have regulations for ALL mani/pedi places here, it makes sense they would have regulations for this type of pedi as well.

I actually had a Fish Pedi, and if you're not skeeved by fish, it really does feel great! Tinklednpants, we must have gone to the same place, because I was also given a glass of wine during the pedi! It was so relaxing.

They change the water after each use, so it's clean. As far as fish poop, well, as long as I didn't see any, I was ok. And I didn't see any.

The fish don't bite, just kind of nibble/suck on your feet, so I can't see how bacteria can enter the feet since there are no bites/cuts made in the skin. The results are smooth feet. After, you get a lotioned foot massage...not by the fish.;)

For those who worry about "fish poop". Think about that next time you jump into a lake or the ocean. I wonder how big whale poop is? :lmao:

Well, of course I had to take a look. It differs by whale type. Some didn't look too bad at all and others, eh I don't need to see it again. Some of it was big and others more like liquid. I thought of adding some pics and decided against it.:beach:
