Baltimore BOT-Fest

Howard - You should already be in bed but...

Have a great time tomorrow.

Mike~ Should be, but not... had to go to Andrew's last performance, then get home and get ready. Then I had to check my Mom in online for her flight home tomorrow..Good night!

I'll post a report tomorrow.

Howard

Waiting for a report, Howard!! Hope the knee is behaving!

Hi everyone! Charlie and I were up at 5 AM and to the starting area in Wilmington's Tubman Garrett Park by 6:20 AM. We parked in a close by parking garage, which was nice. After making a couple of Jodi stops at the facilities before the race, we made our way to the starting area.

The weather was cool and overcast, but it didn't last. It heated up pretty nicely (78) with lots of sun for most of the day. Charlie and I managed splits around 8:30 to 9:00 for the first 5 miles. With the BIG HILL coming up around mile 6, I told Charlie the pace would have to slow up some. I was cut off from running from him for a ways and then I stopped to "Gu" up and he went ahead. I think that was around mile 7. I saw him periodically on the course, he was ahead, but not too far.

I actually hoped I could catch up. I certainly closed the gap at the end since he finished around 3 minutes ahead of me. Cam, Judy and my Mom came later on and were near the turn at the finish area when Charlie and then I finished. I finished in 4:39:47 at a 10:40 Pace. Charlie finished ahead of me by around 3 minutes (a PR for him). I lost some serious time in the middle miles of the run (16-22), but made some time up by pushing it for many of the last miles.

My first marathon happened in May 2006, it was the Delaware Marathon. I finished that race in 4:41:03. I was hell-bent on getting a new marathon record and just made it by a couple of minutes.

Overall, at 9:45 PM, I feel pretty good... just a few aches and pains. I got very little if any blisters. I had to stop to take off one of my Injinji socks that was painfully cutting into the area between my toes. I ended up losing it, so I guess that was subliminal.

Before and during the race, I was concerned about my knee, but nothing ever manifested. I had taken an anti-inflammatory before the race and took one when I got home.

All in all a great race, a good effort and I will sleep well tonight!

Have a great week!

UPDATE: Our official chip times: Charlie:4:36:27, Howard: 4:39:43. There were only 12 Marathon runners between us at the finish.

Howard

Howard - Congrats to you and Charlie:banana::cheer2::yay: Great news the knee was just fine:thumbsup2

Colleen - Thanks for checking in:hug:

Everyone else - :grouphug:

Not much running happening here but I am dead tired daily due to the numerous landscaping projects I've got going on:laughing: Since we moved into our new home last fall, I've got a whole yard to keep me busy:)

Congrats to Charlie and Howard!

Sara, I too have been trying to get our yard into shape. Still lots to be done. HOpe yours is coming along better than mine.

Lou, congrats on all your huge accomplishments lately. It is great to see hard work pay off!

Jodi, how are things? Is the cloud back to normal after his ultra? Is he onboard for MCM yet? How are you injuries?

Jen, sounds like you are as busy as ever. What race is next for you?

You too Chester, do you have a race on the horizon? How are things on the job front?

Mikey, been busy as daddy taxi? Yesterday, I had dad complain to me poolside about how he hates the taxi duty. His wife was out of town for a week and he had to take up the slack. I had to laugh, I think the words "suck" "hate it" "what a waste of time" came out of his mouth. I just shook my head, "Ah dude, what did you expect when you signed up for this parenting job??:confused3 Count your blessings man!" Anyway, he was such a lame duck, unlike all the Bot men here!:):grouphug:

Later friends, now that I am finished work for another year, I must go book vacations.:thumbsup2

Hi Bots!

Just wanted to check in for a quick hello. Things have been pretty busy around here and Matt and I had family staying with us for a week but they left yesterday, so things should calm down a bit.

Hopefully, I'll catch up over the weekend.

Howard: Nice work on the race. Glad to hear the knee didn't give you any trouble.

Dave: Great work with all of your DIS reporting. You deserve the break and some fun even though I'm totally jealous. ;) I hope things are going ok with our dad.

Colleen: I love when people complain how inconvenient their children are. What where they thinking parenting would be? I love the idea of swinging into vacation planning mode, it's what I need to start doing.

Jodi: Don't you have a half coming up? Have you decided if you are wearing the fives? I also know of a loving adoptive home for the 38s if they are too big for you:rolleyes1

We have been our usual busy lately. Next race is the ODDyssey half in Philia over Memorial Day weekend. We have decided to go in costume (against my better judgment). We will be various zombies from the game plants vs zombies-- I'm going to be the road cone one and Butch will be sporting a propeller beanine and balloon-- that is if I can find a store that sells propeller beanines:headache: I'll post pictures and let you guys know how it goes.

I was thinking about doing the Beaver Island Marathon (MI) Labor Day weekend, but that doesn't look like it will work out. Our house/pet sitter will be in Rochester NY for a Drum Corps Competition. Now I'm looking a a race in Maine - the Mount Desert Island Marathon October 17th. A couple of people from the Bradenton Runners Club are going.

I'm finally caught up on all my projects and have all my invoices sent out. Now I'm just waiting for payments to trickle in.

Too bad for that Dad. My best memories from my kid's growing up is shuttling them around and attending their events. What "sucked" was when there was no way that I could be there for them. Luckily those times were very, very few. Even after they were able to drive themselves around, I made it to every game, competition etc. I miss those days!

BOT Wishes to everyone

Chester

Wow. Look at everyone all communicative.

Colleen - I kind of do like taxi service. Don't tell Kathy, but it's a good excuse not to be doing something productive at home. Plus I get to run or sit and read or get ice cream while I'm out.

Jen - Your crazy race sounds fun.

Cindy - Congrats on getting your house back.

Sara - My yard awaits when you have perfected your skills. Actually, you don't even need to have perfected anything.

Chester - Welcome back. No Beaver Island? Shame. I was imagining some VERY interesting medal possibilities.

Howard - Congrats on your Delaware PR. Maybe I'll join you there next year.

CindyLou - I'm real interested to hear about your relay (even thought it will probably get Jodi all irate and in our faces again.). Have fun!

Hey to everyone else. I miss you all.

I'm knocking on wood and thinking my cranky knee issues are a thing of the past. I was able to run 5 on Monday and 6 today with no problems. Well, let's say the knee is fine. The rest of me is woefully out of shape but that's another story.

Take care all.

I have mold or fungus or mildew or something on my shrubs in my front yard. What is it, they look like little white worms under the leaves, but when I try to remove them, it just just white powdery stuff. The leaves are dropping like crazy. Any suggestions? Guess I will take in a few samples to my local garden shop.

Hi Bots,

Colleen: Sorry to hear about the fungus among us. Hope you get it figured out. Have fun with the vacation planning. Having the summer off from work really has its advantages. Wish I had it off.

Mike: Glad the knee is feeling better. Hard to imagine you ran an ultra just a short time ago and now you think you're out of shape. I'm sure it's not as bad as you think. I am hoping the Relay is fun. The weather is supposed to be good, so I have that going for me. I know just one other person in my van, so I'm hoping the others are all nice and not annoying.

Chester: I'm glad you have happy memories about going to your kids' competitions. I love watching my kids' games, it the scheduling and trying to get everyone where they need to be that's trying. Mount Desert Island is one of the prettiest places I've been. I've always wanted to do the marathon, though I believe it's quite hilly. It probably won't get on the schedule for this year. I'll be interested to hear your assessment of it.

Jen: I'm looking forward to seeing pictures of your costume for the race. I hope it's fun.

Cindy: Hope you enjoyed your company.

Sara: I hope you are enjoying your landscaping projects.

Howard: Congrats again on your great race.

Jodi: I'll be running thru Centerbrook, CT sometime around 2 PM tomorrow afternoon. I think that's as close as I'll be to you. I run thru Danielson at midnight and Westwood, MA around 8 AM Saturday.

Lou: Hope you are enjoying the Flyers' win. I know it was quite devastating around here. Not that everyone expected the Bruins to go far this year, but when you're up 3-0 in the series then 3-0 in game 7. It was brutal. How's the bursitis?

Dave: I enjoyed following your trip to FL on FB. Glad you had fun.

I leave this afternoon for CT to run the Ragnar Relay on Friday and Saturday. I am hoping it is fun. I'm a bit worried about the lack of sleep, but I have 3 kids, so I'm somewhat used to limited sleep. I'll try to keep you updated on FB as I go.

Have a great day everyone.
Cindy

Sara - I hope you are enjoying the landscaping. Feel free to swing by my place anytime because my yard could use some help. Between the bugs, pollen and work I just like to look at the trees from inside my home office.

Jodi - What will you be naming your first batch of beer?

Jen - The ODDyssey course is a nice one. Should be a fun race but you better pray for cloudy skies if you plan to run 13 miles in a costume on Memorial Day. I'll be thinking of you when I am sitting by the pool.

Chester - "Waiting for the payments to trickle in"? That's the story of my life nowadays. It's funny how everyone wants to rush you to create the plans but they never rush to write those checks. Hopefully those checks start coming quicker.

Colleen - I have that on my plants...I just thought it was normal. My plants need to tough it out because I am not helping them.

Mike - Glad the knee is holding up. Anything on tap race wise for youthis summer?

Howard - Great job with the DE Marathon!

CindyLou - The Flyers have been a pleasant surprise around here. No one even paid attention to them this year. They squeaked into the playoffs on the last day of the season, crushed the Devils in 5, and pulled out a miracle in Boston. All the sudden Philly is Flyer'd up.

Matt/Cindy - I'll give you a heads up if we venture to DC this summer. We have been talking about trying to catch a Phils game there.

Dave - I have also been tracking your exploits on FB. Great pics!

Been running here and there but work/biz is jamming up my schedule. I live a bit of a roller coaster schedule these days. The phone rings off the hook but I am not complaining.

Lou

OK, I took my fungus to the local Home Depot guy and he said it was definitely not fungus or mold, but little egg sacks from some insect, he didn't know what kind of insect though. Maybe I will take my egg sacks to another place for a second opinion.:rotfl:

Are you TRYING to scare me, because it's working!:scared1:

I have it diagnosed as scale. They said it was no big deal, very common around these parts. It is on my holly scrubs, which are very hardy so they assured me the plants will be OK, once I get rid of this insect.

Scale Insects and Mealybugs on Ornamental Plants1
Eileen A. Buss and Jay Cee Turner2
Scale insects are the most serious pests of many ornamental plants. There are 13 families of scales in Florida, the most common being armored scales, soft scales, and mealybugs. Scales cause damage by sucking plant fluids from leaves (Figure 1), stems, and sometimes roots. Some species feed on the underside of leaves, which can appear as stippling (small yellow spots) or chlorotic lesions. Heavily infested plants look unhealthy and produce little new growth. Heavy infestations can cause extensive leaf yellowing, premature leaf drop (defoliation), branch dieback, and plant death.

Hey Everyone! What's doin'? Haven't been around for a while, but here goes.

Colleen - Move away from the spawn in your lawn! RU going to MCM? RU running? When RU heading to Disney?

Sara - And how are YOU? Enjoying your temporary forced retirement? How do you feel? Nice weather out your way, eh?

Howard - How're you feeling after DE??

Chester - Here's hoping you get paid for those invoices soon! RU going to EE? BTW, I say go to Desert Island in ME!! If you do, perhaps I'll join you???popcorn:: Been wanting to run that bad boy.

Mike - Glad to hear your knee is feeling better - you'll be running tons of miles & making JodiStops before you know it. ;). Is Kathy better? You're going to BQ @ MCM, right? :rolleyes1

CindLou - Just got off the phone with you...sounds like you're having fun @ your relay!! Not like any of US would know..:rolleyes1 Can't wait to see the video.

Dave - Wait...do you even read this thread or run anymore? LOVE the DisPodcast stuff you've been doing, keep up the good work!:yay:

Matt - How's your knee doin'? What's going on with you & your next event?

Cindy - RU running? When's YOUR next event?

Jen - Eager to hear about how your freaky Filly race goes. Running a 1/2 on June 6...hopefully in the FiveFingers...Been running in them w/ some tightness in my ankle-area . Trying to keep it healthy. My size 38s are on my stinky feet right now, so forget it!!:snooty:

Lou - Work is SO busy for you, at least you have an excuse for not being on here...not like me. That's awesome!! Haven't come up with a name for our stout yet, but there are MANY floating around in our heads....you don't wanna know :rotfl:. What's up next for you?

Me (like you care)...running in my FiveFingers, loving it, but as I said, the left ankle/behind ankle (not achilles) is continually tight. Hopefully it'll sort itself out b4 the June 6 1/2. As always, I'll be under-trained, but I'll run it anyway. If I don't feel real good I'll wear sneakers. More importantly, Bruce & I are making our own homebrew tomorrow...:scared1: I'll let you know how it turns out.

Good morning Bots. I've run 2 out 3 legs of the relay so far. I just have 4.8 miles at around 11 am. So far it's been a lot of fun. I'll report more later.

Good morning bOTs~

What's going on? Jodi, how did the brew turn out? When will you know?

Cindy, still swamped at work? How is the new flat screen?

A little yoga and weights this morning, looking forward to getting out for a few miles tonight.

Hope everyone is well.
