Baltimore BOT-Fest

Rain in the forecast for Sunday....Bruce is NOT a happy camper! :sad2::headache:. Neither am I, for that matter.

OK since apparently I don't pay very good attention (sounds like high school :lmao:) what race is he doing tomorrow?

WOW, you really DON'T pay attention, as tomorrow is Saturday...what school system did you go through, anyway??? ;).

To answer your question - he's running a 100k on SUNDAY for a co-worker's charity. That's a LOT of miles to run wet in. :headache:

Jodi How is the 100K setup? Are you going to be able to meet Bruce throughout the race? I think that in the rain it will be very important for him to switch to dry socks, shoes, and potentially dry clothes every so often.

Also I ran Baltimore in the rain and found that while I was hot and sweating a lot early in the race, that once I started slowing down and doing a ran / walk near the end I got very very cold. I really wished I had someone to hand me a long sleeve shirt or a jacket.

Oh, one more thing but wet clothes chaff like crazy, especially on the man nipples.:scared1: I'm not sure if one application of body glide will last for 100K.

Matt - Thanks for the advice....I think you're right, in that he's going to get cold pretty fast. I had thought about the chaffing issues, too. Not sure Bodyglyde is gonna cut it either, for such a long run. We'll bring some vaseline, I guess. The race, fortunately, is loops around a lake. So I should see him every hour or so. I also plan to run with him for a lap (toward the end when he's beat ;)) - my brother's coming, too, and a couple of people from the school where Bruce works.

The only good thing about this whole debacle that-is-rain, is that Bruce is a compulsive over-planner. He's already got jackets/socks/duct tape/sterile catheters/moleskin/shirts of every sleeve length/food, etc., all in this giant green tub he calls "the war chest". :sad2:, ready to go. OMG, he's SO melodramatic...you have NO idea what it's been like since he signed up for this thing :). He's insane - but that shouldn't surprise anyone here.

We'll do the best we can. I just hope his knees hold out :headache:....and his feet :scared1:.....and.....

Jodi The "war chest". I love it! Two more thing I just thought of in case there is more room in the war chest.

1) Has Bruce looked into IT band knee straps? I used one for a while when I was having IT band issues. I'm not sure if it helped or not, but some people swear by them. It he hasn't used one before, he probably shouldn't start the race with it, but if his IT bands are hurting late in the race, they might help. It sort of presses down on the IT right above the knee to hold it in place.

2) Bio-freeze. I used this for the goofy two years ago and it really helped when my knee was hurting. They might have this at the aid stations for the race, but it couldn't hurt to bring your own. I don't think bio-freeze is a cure of any problems, but it definitely will dull the pain if Bruce has the mindset that he is "going to finish no matter what".

Matt - Bio-Freeze CHECK! I "borrowed" some of that spray from the chiropractor's office a while ago ;)....good stuff. We also have the role-on, but the ingredients from the chiro's office is much different/stronger. Re: the knees, Bruce is actually going to have the Chiro tape his knees tomorrow night with that kinesio tape crap. Personally I don't think it'll work, but whatever makes him feel better. I'm also wondering if it'll just flop off b/c of the rain.

Jodi It sounds like the only thing Bruce doesn't have in his war chest is a 6 pack of my home made beer.:cheer2:

Yep, sounds just like me.;) Poor Matt and Cindy had to lug around my "war chest" all day. Well, maybe not exactly a chest. More like a little bag with some shoes in it, but still...

Maybe it won't rain.

I'm not even going to ask about the sterile catheters.

Jodi - Thinking of you guys today:goodvibes and anxiously awaiting a post to know Bruce is alrightpopcorn::.

Jodi: Did I ever mention I'm not really good at waiting patiently:rolleyes1 Hoping Bruce did well and that you fill us in soon before the curiosity kills me. We needed Matt and Cindy at this race to give us updates.

Sara: Good to see you around here. I hope you are feeling ok.

He FINISHED!! 62 miles in 12.5 hours!! 4 people were signed up for the 100k, but he was the only one that finished. So, although he was the last person on the course, he won a prize!!!:lmao: He won a real cool duffle bag & hoody with the logo from the race on it. I'm so happy for him...more details tomorrow. Hey, that's great! I'm so happy for Bruce. First place! Man, you can't beat that.

I can't wait to hear the details.

Thanks for the update.

Wow!!! Congratulations Bruce!!!

Okay, I have to ask. I saw somewhere that there were "sterile catheters" packed in the "War Chest". What were they for?

Lou
