Baltimore BOT-Fest

Hi everyone!

Congratulations to all of the Rutger's Race runners (Jen got a PR!! Woo Hoo!!!) and Lou for your Penn Relay time.

I went out on my scheduled 18 miler I held over from yesterday. It went surprisingly well. I took an anti-inflammatory before I left and I believe that helped somewhat with the knee. All these hours later and it is doing well.

Here is the tale of the tape:

Miles: 18.0
Time: 2:59:58
Pace: 10:00
Splits: 9:42, 9:34, 9:35, 8:59, 9:10, 9:36, 8:54, 9:00, 9:46, 9:21, 10:37, 10:51, 8:55, 10:52, 13:41, 10:52, 10:06, and 10:28.

I finished a bit short of my house and had to go an additional .62 miles which I used as a cool down.

I'm not sure what time I'll have this week for running. I'll try to get in one or two runs (5 & 8). I will not be doing any long runs while I'm away on vacation. I may get a few miles in here and there. I plan on golfing twice and doing some swimming (up to the pool bar :thumbsup2).

CindyLou~ Best of luck tomorrow!!! You'll be in my thoughts all morning.

Thank you to all of you that made comments on my Facebook page about my run today.

I'm going to pack for my trip now! :cool1::dance3: Wish me luck.

Have a great week everyone!

:grouphug:

CindyLou: :cheer2::cheer2::cheer2: have fun at Boston today-- thinking of you. You should be really proud to have even made it into the race-- no stress, you deserve to be there and soak up the experience.

Lou: Nice job on the race! I'm sure the pollen is part of your problem. My allergies are going crazy this year and I'm usually not too bad in the spring.

Howard: Great job on the long run. Thanks for the congrats for my RU run. Enjoy vacation. You and Cam deserve some nice relaxing time together.:beach:

Jodi: I'm enjoying the updates on the fives.

All of the MCM chatter has me wishing I had signed up, but the Halloween timing is a deal breaker. DD6 still loves the holiday too much for me to be AWOL. Maybe I can talk some BOTs into doing the Warrior Dash with us in the fall and a warm up for MCM.

I had a really nice weekend. We went to Rutgers on Friday to pick up our race packet. The expo was pretty lame but we got to meet with one of my old college roommates who is now a dean at RU and have lunch on our old stomping grounds. The race itself was really nice. We ran through campus and several local parks that were in full bloom. The cherry blossoms were beautiful it almost made me not mind the hills. There were no huge hills, but lots of smaller uphill inclines complete with wind in my face much of the time, so it was a tougher race then I'm used to. I felt really good until about 11 miles then sort of fell apart. I managed a PR by a measly 21 seconds but I'll take it. After the race ate really poorly with ice cream followed by a boli at the restaurant where Butch and I had our first date. The diet is back on today but it was fun to relive a bit of college.

CindyLou - Thinking of you today:worship::banana::yay::cheer2:

Jen - You look awesome in the Rutgers pics:thumbsup2 Congrats on the PR:woohoo:

Lou - Happy Birthday and congrats on your run as well:cool1:

Jodi - Please tell Bruce I'll be praying for him on Sunday:goodvibes Glad to hear you're feeling fine in the fives.

I am going radioactive Wednesday for a week and will be more AWOL than usual:laughing: Not sure how stir crazy I'll be with the mandatory quarantine and I'm sad to have to be away from my family again:eek: Unfortunately, as of today my right vocal chord is still paralyzed and most likely will not improve since I had a tumor dissected off the nerve. While my voice is fine, it does impact my breathing ability so I'm kind of bummed about the possible impact on my endurance ambitions:sad2: I am still planning to run/walk WDW in January yet will have to play it by ear once I am able to try daily training. Thanks for letting me live vicariously through y'all for a while longer:grouphug:

Congratulations CindyLou:cheer2: and Happy Birthday to Lou:bday: and prayers for Radio Active Sara:grouphug:

Hey BOTs!

I am actually struggling from a running injury suffered post Penn Relay 20K. Yesterday I got an unexpected birthday present, my right knee start to give me a lot of trouble just sitting at my desk. When I walked I felt fine but couldn't bend the knee. I spent last night tossing and turning in bed in pain. Today it hurt a lot worse so I went to see a doctor to see what's up.

The doc thinks I have bursitis of the knee as the pain is not on the outer ligaments but is almost directly below my knee cap. I feel like I want to crack me knee but nothing happens. I'm on Naproxen for the rest of the week to see if it reduces the swelling and pain.

She cringed when I told her I have this Broad St race in less then 2 weeks. If the race was Sunday I would be in trouble. Have any of you guys ever had something like this? Seems pretty common and I am hoping a week of rest and some drugs might calm it down.

Sorry for the all about me post.

CindyLou - Once again, congrats on the achievement. Must be tough to come down off that high.

Sara - Continued thoughts and prayers always going your way.

Lou

Hi Bots,

I’m finally checking in here. Thanks so much for all the good wishes and encouragement on the Marathon. Overall it was a great experience but I had a tough race. I promised Jodi and Jen on FB that I’d stop whining, so I won’t go into it too much, but my legs felt tired by 7 miles and by the time I got to the hills I was just doing the death march to the finish. I probably went out a bit fast. I was planning to run slower than 9 min miles for the first 10 miles then see how I felt. The first half mile is down hill and everyone in my corral had qualified by running a 4 hr marathon, so they were all running sub-9 minute miles right from the start. The crowd support was amazing which contributed to the fast pace since everyone was cheering for me by name, it was just so easy to get caught up in all of it and before I knew it I was running 8:45 pace. I managed to slow it down a bit, but probably not enough. I finished in 4:17:11. My legs are still sore today, but definitely improving. I’m going to take this week off from running then maybe get out there next week for a couple easy runs.

Lou: So sorry to hear about your knee. I hope it’s a quick recovery.

Sara: Thinking of you today and hoping all goes well. You have such an amazing attitude towards all of this.

Jen: Glad you had such a great race, especially on a tough course. Congrats on your PR. Way to go on losing 20 lbs. Keep at it.

Howard: Great job on your 18 miler. Enjoy your trip.

Jodi: Glad to hear the Five Fingers are helping your running. Saw several people running the marathon in those.

Hello to all the other Bots.

Thanks again for all your good thoughts and birthday wishes too.
Cindy

Lou Knee injuries suck. I'm suffering with a minor flare up of my knee injury, or perhaps it is a new knee injury I can't really tell. One thing that I learned a few months back is that pushing to come back too soon after a knee injury will really only make things worse. I pushed too hard and ran on my injured knee and then I couldn't run at all for 6-7 weeks.

Now I'm trying to take it easy more. I used the elliptical this morning for 45 minutes instead of running to see how that felt. I used to hate the elliptical, but now I'm actually happy that I can just exercise. When my knee was real bad I could hardly walk.

Sara - :grouphug:

Lou - Oh no, I hope you find out whats going on.

Cindy - Whine all you want. You DID IT and THAT, my friend, is what counts! :thumbsup2

Where's Howard? He must be packing. :confused3

I've been doing 5Ks as training runs and feeling pretty good about them. Except yesterday when I was done both hamstrings were complaining. Today they are fine. I asked Charlie if I could us his stick, but well, you know how that went. Suffice to say, I'll get my own so I don't have to ask him if I can use his. :rolleyes2 I did roll around on the foam roller so maybe that helped. I really don't want any hamstring issues. Certainly not this early in the game. :headache:

Cindy - Once again great job! I can only imagine how much hype there is when you are at the start of this race. A downhill start is actually dangerous as I expect a lot of people burn themselves out coming out of the gate charged up.

I was afraid of the same thing at NYC. One nice thing at NYC was you had to run over a bridge at the start so there was no way anyone was going to get crazy running up that initial steep climb. In an effort to calm myself down I actually listened to classical music as I waited in line for the start. I didn't wear headphone during the race but it did help to calm down before the gun.

When I was following your time online I figured something was up during that first part of the race. That's why these races are so tough because you have no idea what you are in for until you are on the course. It's great to see you had all the family support. Must have been awesome having them there. I was so charged up at NYC that I missed my family at Mile 22 when they were 10 feet away in the crowd screaming my name. :lmao:

Lou

Lou: I hope the knee fooels better for you. I agree with Matt-- don't push it. Make sure it is better before you try any hard running on it. Hopefully you will be back in shape for Broad Street.

Sara: :hug::hug: Good luck with the next phase of treatment and the vocal cord.

Cindy: You are free to complain all you want! I just want you to be proud of yourself, not beating yourself up over your time. I am in awe of your accomplishment:worship::worship: I think that the dedication and effort needed to qualify in the first place means that you have been hard on yourself over times for a long time, so of course you will be bummed if you didn't do what you felt was your best. I'd love to hear more about the race, the good, the bad and the ugly. If you feel it wasn't your best you'll just have to go back next year now that you know what to expect.

Howard: enjoy your trip

Matt - I'm thinking I may try to ride a bike (gently) today to see how it feels. The weird thing is that it doesn't hurt to walk as much to sit or go down stairs. Whatever it is it feels tight. I slept with a brace on and that helped me keep the knee straight.

Worst case is that I run Broad St slow and take some time off to rest because I don't think I'll race again until late summer.

Lou My knee issue was probably much different than yours, but my knee also felt "tight". Once it warmed up it felt better, but the first few steps after getting up out of a chair were pretty bad. When I ran on it, it felt tight at first, but then it would loosen up and feel ok. Later in the day after running, though, it was very stiff.

I never went to a doctor, maybe I have/had bursitis too.

Thats basically what I am feeling. I know I could run on it but it feels like someone tied a knot under my kneecap. I researched bursitis of he knee online and it sounds like what I am dealing with. Worst case they have to drain the knee out if it is infected. I think I'll be fine if I take it easy but we'll see. The odd part is I felt totally fine after the race on Sunday. When I injured my knee in the past I couldn't walk after I crossed the finish line.

Matt/Cindy - On a totally separate note...I'll be spending the day in DC on Friday at the Capital Hill Club (300 First Street SE). I'm invited to an event at the club and will be there all day. Do either of you guys work close to that club? If so, I'd love to grab beers that night. Cindy, don't hold it against me but this is an event run by the RNC Chairman, Michael Steele. I may be able to get you a Sarah Palin autograph.:lmao:

I work downtown. It's not super close to where you'll be, but not that far either. What time will you be done with your Republican brainwashing? Sorry, I mean event:flower3:

I think this thing ends at 5 or 6. I'll be drinking a lot of Kool Aid while I am there so I could use a beer afterwards. We can exchange cell #'s and see if we can get together.

I asked Charlie if I could us his stick, but well, you know how that went.
:rotfl::rotfl: Funny, I've never declined letting Kathy use my stick when she's asked.:rolleyes1

CindyLou - Nothing like dead legs at mile 7. Ugh! Great race though. Are there any male co-eds along the course to kiss the female runners?

We are still basking in the light of your awesomeness!

Lou - Easy on the knee. Do you get a courtesy NRA membership with your meeting Friday? And how does a dude named Rodriguez get invited to such a thing?

Matt - Your knee is bothering you again? WTH?

Sara - Where's the lead aproned group hug smiley when you need it?

My knee is NOT injured. Repeat, my knee is NOT injured! It is however still a bit cranky about trying to hold me upright as I stumbled on rocks and roots, up and down hills for a few more miles than I'm use to. I've come to the conclusion that a couple of extra days of rest is probably not a bad idea.

Sara - Where's the lead aproned group hug smiley when you need it?
:lmao::rotfl2::rotfl: I like that.

Haven't be on here, so let's do a catch up.....

Mike - Yes, a 50 mile run might require a bit more than your usual 3 day-off recipe. Give it a rest, please, before you get hurt.

Lou - UGH, about the knee. Are your quads sore at all? Icing it @ night I hope?? Just go easy at Broad St., if that's possible for you. Have fun in DC drinking beers. Tell Sara Palin I said "eff you" for the wolves of Alaska.

Sara - I SO hope you're doing well. My sister had to be secluded like this, too, but she actually enjoyed the time away from her family (no, not ME). Hope you're OK & your vocal chord gets better .

Matt - Knee's misbehaving again? Well if you can't run you could always brew me some beer. Much better pastime for you anyway...IF I see the fruits of your labor.

Cindy - Have you been running @ all?

Howard - Have an AWESOME vacation you turd!

Dave - Safe travels to DE, hope it all goes well. Glad you're running again.

Colleen - ??? Everything bueno?popcorn::

Chester - HI!! RU you doing EE in June? Wish I could be there again. What's on the schedule for you next for running? How's the work load?

Jen - Still basking in your PR glow? Can you just come down to MCM for the day to watch me cross the finish line? What about for dinner the night before?

Cindy - :worship::worship::worship:How's the bod? So Boston is apparently a rough course I take it. Hey, how'd your belly do?

HonieButt - You know better than to talk about "sticks" & using them, on a thread where Mike posts.:sad2: Hope your hamstrings calm down.

Things are swell here. I want to run a marathon soon, but nothing fits into my schedule & I should probably train, too. So, I'll run some halfs/halves, whatever. Bruce is commencing the full on freak-out about Sunday. I hope he makes it. I'll keep you updated as I can, but there's no internet out there, etc. So I'll post on FB Sunday night. They're calling for a chance of showers, so of course he's paranoid. Can't blame him, I wouldn't wanna run 62 miles with wet feet. He's running for a co-worker's charity - he lost his daughter @ age 7 & has been building a handicap playground in her honor for a year or so...check it out @ www.baileysgarden.org.

My frogshoes are doing well, but I'll probably break a foot or something in them. My longest run is 6 miles. Again, cautiously optimistic.

So when are we doing a relay? :rolleyes1 I like Lou's 24 hour Philly one, this way we don't have to rent vans, etc. AND I can run in my pajamas. :)

Just a quick note to say thanks (all except for Jodi :rolleyes1) for all the great wishes for a great vacation. I'll post when I get back or online down there although I'm not expecting to be online much. :thumbsup2

I am planning on running a few miles at least twice while I'm away. I'll provide an update when I return.

To all of you with ailments (Lou, Matt & Mike) take care of yourselves!

Sara~ You will continue to be in our prayers.:hug::hug::hug:

Have a great weekend and week ahead. We'll be back Sunday, May 2 late in the evening.

:grouphug:

Howard

Rain in the forecast for Sunday....Bruce is NOT a happy camper! :sad2::headache:. Neither am I, for that matter.
