Don't know how long your flight is but think I would use the first day to check in and then spend some time exploring DTD, maybe making a bear or other creature at build a bear as a souvenir of the trip, checking out the GC, having a nice meal somewhere, swimming in the pool. Then I would find a place to watch the fireworks either from a hotel or on the plaza between Disneyland and CA before trying to get to bed early. That way I would have more energy for an early start in the morning. The extra hours and good use of the fast pass system would allow you to get most things done. Where are you staying? Hope you have a wonderful time flying scarves and all.

thank you for the suggestions, my flight is 5-6 hrs from li,ny
i was wondering if i would have enough time to see dl and dca in that time if
i start thrus, fri, sat i red is usually crazy! i'm staying at the gch. thanks

I agree w/ Castleri!

I just did a similar trip. In order to minimize airfares, we ended up flying SOUTH to DC then west. Our fight west (DC to LAX) was pure torture thanks to a few passengers who didn't have a very good relationship w/ soap, deoderant and mouthwash!!! It sounds silly, but I think it took a lot out of us ...

We landed at LAX at 1:15, picked up a rental car ... drove thru Hollywood, stopped for dinner and a look at the Hollywood sign (my 10yo son really wanted to see that sign for some odd reason) and drove south (further than Anaheim) to visit relatives for a few days. We arrived totally wiped out.

Then on Sunday we checked into our Anaheim hotel about 2:30pm. Our PLAN was to visit downtown disney for dinner and a bit of hanging out and then retire early ... but ....

Dh insisted we "trade in" our 3 day passes for 4 day passes (additional cost, $20/person) so we could see fireworks ... the park was opened to midnight that night (4/15) w/ fire works at 9, but the other days we were there (4/16, 17, 18) the park closed at 9pm and there were no fireworks.

SO ... we got to the hotel on Harbor Blvd, checked in, unpacked and went to the resort. First we went to downtown Disney to "The World of Disney" (giant store) to buy autograph books and pick up the "free souvenir lanyard and pin" that came w/ our vacation package. Then we went to California Adventure cuz we had read about the 'block party'. It was good, but it was too much too soon, and my 8yo dd had a 'meltdown'. (Not a tantrum, just an overwhelmed sort of moody, pouty, "I hate block parties" sort of thing -- but STILL somewhat out of character for her). Then we went into the 'hollywood' section of CA, rode Monsters Inc, saw the sites and went over to Disneyland Park. It was getting dark (it will be different in May) and took the train to New Orleans square to ride Pirates and the Haunted Mansion, Having not been there in over 10 years, we found it a bit difficult to find our way around in the dark. (Don't get me wrong, it's well lit, but if you are unfamiliar with the area, the subtle 'restroom' signs and stuff don't stand out, kwim?). Then we found ourselves a good place to watch the fireworks and they were cancelled because of wind!!

I can't say I REGRET doing what we did, but it made for a stressful start ... I wish we had stuck w/ our original plan.

How are you feeling as you recover from chemo? Do you tire easily? Are you still weak? I'm not being nosey, just wanted to share ... my dh has MS and is recovering from a serious auto accident. He's not walking well and gets fatigued. We rented a 'scooter' from a private (non-Disney) company ... it was waiting for us when we arrived at our hotel, and dh road it to the park (the rest of us walked) and when we checked out, we left it at the hotel to be picked up. If you think this might interest you, let me know and I'll get the name of the company for you.

Enjoy your trip!!!

thank you for the suggestions! but i am so hyped up for this vac i don't know if i can wait till the next day to enter the parks. we had to cancel our trip for nov do to my illness so everyone has been waiting for dl since then! i am tried and my aeorbic activity levels are not back yet, e.g. i get out of breath walking up stairs. so i'm trying to get as much rest before dl. i plan to sleep on the plane while my dh entertains my dd! lol! i bought tons of travel games in the 99 cent store to keep them occupied. i don't mind anyone being nosey, if i can help someone else in my postion that is my calling now. so please fire away with the questions! i would like to walk my way through dl and if i need a nap i will go back to the gch. that is one reason why i picked that hotel it is the closet.
