Balancing two resorts

Hi all

We are booked into the Wyndham Orlando for 2 weeks in april, spoke to our agent about upgrading to disney. She came back with Carribean Beach for an extra £700.00 and AK for £1200.00. We had thought about staying for 2 nights in a disney hotel while we were over there which was going to cost us for AK £390.00 or the carribean beach £175.95. I dont think we can stretch to 2 weeks in AK but are considering caribean beach. Sorry to drag on but my question is has anyone stayed in the carribean beach and what they thought of it, or has anyone stayed in the wyndham, just trying to balance the two.

We stayed at the CBR in 2000 and loved the resort. We stayed in the Martinique section and it was close to the pool and food court

Have you seen all the INFO here. There is even a video tour of the resort.

I haven't stayed in the Wyndham but have spent 2 weeks in the CBR and liked it very much (although for the same price range we prefer POR, but that's just personal opinion ).

If you're planning on spending the majority of your time in the Disney parks then an on-site resort is a huge plus IMHO.

Would your TA be able to give you a price for one week in the Wyndham and a week in CBR? This would give you the best of off and on-site. You could concentrate on the non-Disney parks during the first week and then immerse yourself in 24/7 Disney for the second week

I appreciate that some people don't like the idea of packing up half way through their holiday but we find it helps freshen us up and add to the enjoyment (and makes the trip seem longer - not sure how that works!)

I think you're staying at the Wyndham resort and Spa in DTD, is that correct? If so, location wise, you're not gaining a whole heap by upgrading to a Disney resort IF you have a car. If you're relying on hotel transportation, that may be a different matter. Also how many ways the extra cost is being split does have a huge bearing. I think it's just 2 or you? If it were for a family of 4, for example, and you were going to use the hotel facilities instead of visiting a themepark, then your savings are 4X$60 or about $250, if the upgrade is about $200 a night , it's not too expensive an option. If it's just the two of you, you're only saving $120 in themepark costs, but spending $200 or so in hotel extras.

I guess the question you have to ask yourself is am I going to get value for money out of the extra GBP 700 or 1200 or can I use that better in other ways. If you already have a car and wouldn't be spending much time in the resorts anyway, then IMHO the money may be better used by booking a special treats/days, for example, at Discovery Cove, warbirds (if you would like to fly a plane) or Richard Petty Driving experience (if you'd like to drive a race car VERY fast). You might be able to do all three (or more/different things) by keeping you're original accommodation and putting the saved money towards activities.

If you would spend a lot/fair amount of time at the resort, around the pool or using the facilities then I think the cost may be justified. AKL has an excellent pool area, great design and a couple of great restaurants, but you are looking at close on an extra $100 for CBR, $200 a day for AKL (either option sound like expensive upgrades to me). Something doesn't seem to add up in the TA's figures (or maybe the figures you quoted are the estimates you got direct from Disney, not an upgrade from the Wyndham). To upgrade to AKL for 2 weeks costs you GBP 1200 (or about 90 a night extra) to upgrade for 2 nights costs you close on GBP 200 a night, you could probably book a room in AKL at rack rate for that without what you're already paying for the Wyndham (whihc I'd guess is more than $100 a night). At an extra GBP 90 for an upgrade I think you could easily justify 2,3 or 4 nights at the AKL if you were mostly going to just hang around the hotel and use their pool. If you don't think you'd be spending much time in the hotel, the longer you stay in it, the harder it becomes, financially, to justify the expense. JMHO.
