just packed bog standardly with clothes.

20kgs. Ok if you don't take too many clothes - I have to say I couldn't manage with it - but then I take loads

I think I understood your question! LOL

When we packed our suitcases for our Christmas trip we filled a large hard-sided case with just general clothes etc.
When we put it on our bathroom scales it was about 23Kg (50.7Ibs)!

My daughters' cases were smaller wheelie type with the pull out handles, they weighed around 16Kg (35.3Ibs).

(The limit on Virgin is 32Kg (70Ibs) - I believe that 32Kg is now the max. for luggage due to health and safety of baggage handlers).

Most charter flights the limit is 20Kg (44Ibs) per case, although you can sometimes pay a fee for an increased limit.

actually this is a good question, because so many people go shopping over there! 44lb/20kg is not a lot, once you see how good the choice and prices are in their shops, plus all the souvenirs etc. I always travel light but never manage to get my case down below 14kg for the outward flight, and thats using a light canvas holdall.

Does your travel agent/airline offer additional luggage allowance for a few £££?? I think most of the UK charters do (e.g. Travel City, Thompson) If so it would be worth buying, not only for peace of mind but also because it would be a lot cheaper than to be stung for excess baggage when checking in for your flight home. You might be lucky and find that they don't weigh your bags coming home, but its the chance you take.

I have been caught out with Thomas Cook. I have booked a fly drive becasue it was a very good price (£862 inclusing all insurances for 14 days in september). The only thing is that it is a 20 Kg allowance and you cannot arrange for more and they will charge at £4 per kilo

I think we will be goiong over there very lightly!

When we flew home with Delta in November, we were told the new per bag limit was now 50lb - this was rather annoying since the flight out boarding card and the website and customer service line told us 32kg per piece - we repacked our bags at check-in, rather than pay the $50 (I think) per piece 'fine'. The Delta lady told us all airlines were making the same introductions shortly, but touch wood, haven't heard this since....
