Baggage Worries

So... I booked my flights through American Airlines with a stop over in New York. Now I will be clearing customs in Halifax before I go and my travel agent tells me after I check in my bags I won't be seeing them again until they are in my room at Disney.:sad2: This means I don't have to lug them over hells half acre in Toronto like we used to but it does seem a little scary:scared1:

Please tell me of your experiences with Magical Express and/or American Airlines.

Maybe.....:scared:

I don't have any experience with ME since we're going to Disney for the first time in June, but I have flown the Halifax-NY route MANY times with American! More than I even want to think about :sad1: (I HATE not living in Nova Scotia  )

We usually do Hfx, NY (JFK or Newark), St. Maarten, then puddle jump to the small island we live on....and I've ALWAYS gotten my bags since they started the customs check in in Halifax. I find it alot better because it saves lots of time in NY.

I don't blame you for being nervous, but in my experience, even when a bag is misplaced, they usually get it to you within 24 hours...not ideal, but not the end of the world! :goodvibes Good luck! Hope you have a great time :)

I have used Magical Express 4 times in the last 2 years and have never had a problem.

2 things to remember though:

1- If you are arriving in Disney early enough in the day to go to the parks or plan on doing something at Disney the day you arrive, MAKE SURE you put what you need in your carry-on because you wont get your bags till as much as 4 hours later(could be sooner).

2- If you are arriving late at night like 10-11 at night, tell front desk to wait till the morning for your bag delivery or you will get the knock on the door at like 2-3 in the morning with your bags.

Enjoy your vacation, and dont worry about magical express they have always been great.:thumbsup2

Never a problem with American Airlines.

Enjoy your flight and your luggage will magical arrive in your room. It is a wonderful service :)

No experience with American, but did Montreal-New York-Orlando last year with Delta, and my bags got safely into my room while I was in Epcot. Much better than going through Toronto and having to pick up luggage. I avoid that at all costs! (well, it would need to be a very good deal! :) ).

You won't regret your choice, I'm sure.

One key point about using Magical Express' luggage delivery. If you do not attach the yellow Disney's Magical Express luggage tags to your baggage in Halifax, your bags will NOT be automatically delivered by Disney.

The yellow luggage tag is the prompt that ensures your bag is placed in the Disney system.

I've done the Halifax-Newark-Orlando route with Continental and the Halifax-Boston-Orlando route with Delta and had no problems with either. The last time I went (September 2007) the baggage screener in Halifax saw the yellow ME tags and assured me that the baggage was safe and in her opinion ME was one of the best inventions in commercial aviation!:thumbsup2

If you don't attach your yellow tags, you can tell them at the ME check-in desk and they will record your bag tag numbers from your boarding passes and take a description. they will arrive in your room, no problem. we just did this.

If you have the yellow tags why wouldn't you use them? Otherwise your bags will go to the carrousel and haved to be retrieved by an ME empoyee. Seems to me that more things could go wrong that way.
