Hi everyone>>
we fly with airtours 4 of us and planning on taking 4 cases...

Will this be acceptable? Mines full size but the kids are a bit smaller...

Thanks..

It depends on who you are flying with.

BA and Virgin allow 2 suitcases per passenger weighing no more that 23kg each. Also with Virgin, there is a physical limit to the size of your suitcase (you can find this on their website).

Charter airlines tend to offer less in the amount that you can take.

Full details in link below, whereas Virgin allows upto 46kg pp, Airtours unfortunately only allows 20kg pp.
When Virgin changed to only allowing 23kg per case we had to go out and buy smaller cases, the ones we used to take held upto around 32kg, these we have now hold around 20kg -approx 23kg when expanded. Depends which size you have. We always weigh ours on Bathroom scales and found they are very accurate.

Yup!

We did the same with the suitcases and utilise the bathroom scales as well.

A pity hotel rooms don't have scales in them though. It would make it a lot easier when "balancing" the suitcase on the final evening.:lmao:

We ended up buying a set of scales last time (walmart, $5) i was so paranoid about going over our limit. Stupid really, as we were flying with Globespan, and had paid around £75 for an extra 50 kilos for the flight back! We didn't need any of the extra allowance!!! Ah well, you live and learn!

As others have said, with Airtours the allowance is 1 suitcase at 20kg per person. So, with 4 people, you will be fine taking 4 cases as long as none of them are over the allowance.

Try using a Spring Balance for on your way home. I got one from Ebay and it only cost £8. Someone on www.doingflorida.com suggested it so I bought one, it's quite accurate too. Small enough to fit in your case and no more unpacking cases at check in!!

Just booked with Thomas Cook & it's only 15kg per person unless you pay £75 upgrade to 20kg pp

When you are going to Florida that amount is just silly!! You can have that much with one trip to Premium Outlets!!

This is the reason i would not go with tour operators, their Alloweance is terrible, 3 of us bring back 6 cases with the full amount of weight in them

Thanks Wayne
I have printed that off & will take to travel agents. A different member of staff booked it for me than the one that gave the quote. She said I had to pay an extra £25 per person to increase & that I could do that at any time, we actually fly with Monarch, so maybe it's different but I will check.

Sharon, why didn't you book with Virgin or BA, they are a lot clearer on the luggage policies:rotfl2:

Monarch looks even more complicated than TC. Link here says 20kg allowance but if you booked after 19th Sept then different policy. I am not even going to try read it all, here's the link Good luck.:)

edit- If you have a phone # on your booking comfirmation for Your Tour op or airline it might be worth ringing direct to get the true information rather than what your TA wants to charge you.

D'oh, I clicked Quote instead of edit, sorry.

We've used fishermans scales for years to check the baggage weight and it's saved us a fortune!

Top tip - if you are going to use them stand on the bed or a chair and let the case hang off them rather than trying to lift the weight. More accurate and much easier on the old back and knees :thumbsup2

We couldn't use Virgin or BA as we wanted to fly from Newcastle. Checked with TA & the £7.50 is one way for short haul, £12.50 long haul. We will just pay excess at the airport if we have any, as you say it is cheaper. We are allowed 5kg each in hand luggage. Thanks for the help.
