Baggage allowance on Virgin Atlantic

Hi All,

Just at the very end of our planning stages now, five weeks tomorrow we'll be off to the airport

I have been looking at the Virgin Atlantic website at baggage allowances, we are flying economy class. On the Web it says

"Two pieces of luggage per passenger, each weighing up to 23kg (50lbs). When added together, the three dimensions of any piece of luggage must not exceed 158cm (62in)."

Does this really mean the two of us can take four suitcases each weighing 23kg (so totalling 92kg). or am I reading it wrong and it is both suitcases added together should not be over 23kg? (e.g total of 46kg for two people)??

I know that this question has been asked before but I can't find the thread now...

You are right - two cases per person - 23kgs each case therefore two people = 4 cases 4 x 23kg = 92kg! There are 4 of us going, don't think we could manage 8 suitcases though!

We didn't go with Virgin but on our trip in 2004 we flew United and each person could have 2 cases at 32kg each!

There was DH and I, DD 6 and DS 4, we ended up taking 6 suitcases, one was just full of shoes, the other full of toiletries

NEVER again will I do that, the kids also had their little on board carry along suitcases from the Disney Store and I had a large carry on bag too. We must have looked soooooooooo touristy

I'm glad I read this thread - I read the luggage allowance differently this year - flying with Virgin in Economy too. I thought the 2 bags included you hand lugagge too - so we all took one piece of carry on and one suitace. Next year I'll take two suitcases - though it'll mean we struggle with loading it in the car.
