Has anyone ever found a bagel store near any of the WDW resorts? We are staying at the WLV and my kids can live off of bagels but don't like store bought ones :(

thanks!

I'm sure you can buy bagels on WDW property (resorts and parks). Also grocery stores, both on property and off. They are opening (or have opened) a Wetzel's Pretzels at Downtown Disney. They're great!

You don't note where you're from in your profile, but if it's anywhere in the Northeast, especially in the NYC/Phila area, you won't find a decent bagel anywhere near WDW. They are just HORRIBLE!!!! Even from a bagel store!!!

...about a half mile from Gooding's (on, I think, 535) there's a shopping center with a Kinkos, and right next to Kinko's is Manhattan Bagels!

I was FLOORED to discover that. Because, literally next door to our apartment building in Queens, New York there is...a Manhattan Bagel shop! They're really good.

That little bit of synchronicity and coincidence was a factor that convinced us to buy into DVC, by the way. My wife and I figured it was a Sign from God! We were MEANT to have a second home in Orlando! ;)

FWIW: I went to the Manhattan Bagel web site and found the address and phone numbers for the place near WDW:

Shoppes at Buena Vista
407-239-1112
407-239-1224
12185 S. Apoka Vineland Rd.

The Starring Rolls Bakery at Studios (at the corner just behind the times board) has good bagels. I haven't had one in a few years, but I think they still serve them.

If you are from the Northeast please be advised that no matter who makes your bagels in Florida that can't compare to those made here in NY. According to a friend of mine it has to do with the water.
My opinion is that outside my home area most bagels are just white bread with a hole in the center. And don't even consider the rye breads or italian.
If you really want bagels do what I do and pack them in your carryon. Actually with the lack of food on flights we buy bagels, slice them, spread cream cheese and take them to eat on the flight down. It really hits the spot when you have been up since 2:30AM to make that 6:15 AM flight!

NancyDVC - you're correct about the water. It is just that!!! I actually was watching a show on the Food Network about pizza, and it was talking about how you can't get good pizza outside of NY. Well, a gentleman in LA is trying to replicate NYC water to get his dough as close to NYC dough as possible. He installed a VERY expensive tretment process in his restaurant to get the water as chemically equivalent to NYC water as possible. He thinks it works, but me, I'll take any NYC bagel anyway, even the supposed "bad" ones you can get in the hotel quick cafe over any other bagels!!! Here in NJ, the bagels aren't nearly as good, but if you go to a good bagel shop they're not bad. Also, water differencials is the reason french pastries and breads are so much better in France then here. At the Paris in Las Vegas, they actually have their water and ingredients flown in from France to try to replicate as much as possible in their French pastry store. Since Florida water is NOTORIOUSLY bad, I try to stay away from things that water is essential for, like breads and pizzas (a prime reason the pizza in WDW is also horrible!) The bagels in all of Florida ( I have family in different parts) are just hard and EXTREMELY chewey frisbees to me!!!

thank you everyone for your responses and recommendations. My husband is from the Philadelphia area so he is the pickiest regarding his bagels. In NC, we have Bruegger's bagel which he will eat, but I think the Manhattan bagel will be a close enough substitution :)

Also, regardig the water there, I also saw on the Food channel that is why you can't make a good cheesesteak anywhere other than Phil./NY.

When we go north, we never miss a chance to throw down some pizza and cheesesteaks!!

Well, now we all know the truth--and they said pollution was a bad thing!:p

I had tracked down Manhattan Bagels last trip only to find they were closed by 3pm or so. Make sure you call and get their hours before heading over. We were sooo close but so far.

Try to think of it not as pollution, but as "flavor enhancement"...

My friend who says that the Florida water is so bad for baking actually carried a 2 liter bottle of water that she filled at home on her flight to Florida so that she could bake pies at her sister's house! When she made pies the year before the crust was awful. And they atributed it to the water. This year the pie crust was great and the only difference was the water she used.
Maybe NYC could solve part of their fiscal crisis by selling water to Florida's baking industry!:smooth:
