I am happy to announce that dh and I are the proud new owners of a Nikon d5200. Now that we have our new baby, I need a safe place to carry it. We are headed to the world in 2 weeks and are looking for a backpack style bag for it. Any recommendations would be amazing!!! We would like something that we can carry the camera/lenses in plus things or the day I.e snacks, light jacket, things of that nature. Thanks in advance!!!

Camera Bags are one of the harder items to recommend. There are so many manufacturers styles in all price ranges. Most of us have numerous bags that we have purchased over the years. Currently, my primary bag is a Lowepro Fastpack 200. There are all-weather bags, sling bags, regular bags, pro style bags, etc. Personally, I would find a local camera shop (sometimes they are hard to find), take my gear and try out the different types.

So true!

Whatever you purchase it will not be your last. Needs change over time and what I thought was going to be great on my 1st trip to Disney with a DSLR (sling bag) turned out to be ok at best. Since then i have acquired 2 additional bags and just use them now depending on how much gear i am carrying.

We have narrowed it down to a kata 3in1 or a lowepro fastpack. Does anyone have feedback on either of these?

I have never used the Kata, but I have heard good things about it. As I stated earlier my primary bag is a Lowepro Fastpack 200. I have been using it for the past 3-4 years. I have used and abused it! I have overstuffed it to the point of barely being able to get the zippers closed. It has stood the test of time. When I fly, it fits easily under the seat so bringing my equipment on a plane is not as issue. Because I keep buying more equipment, I am looking at purchasing the 350 AW, because I really need more space and the rain cover. That was not offered when I originally purchased mine. I shop around for my bags, but I have found Avidmaxoutfitters.com to have some of the best prices.
