Bag checks with the monorail resorts

Can someone explain to me the bag check procedures for the monorails. I have feeling I won't even need to take a bag and will probably not let the teens in my party to do so either if it is very time consuming. We will be doing a lot of resort hopping on the monorail line in December, so this is of concern to me.

It's more or less the same as it is at the parks, just quicker. A security guard will inspect your bag, you'll walk through the metal detector, and you're off waiting for the monorail you like were before they made this switch. On our last trip, we felt like the process was faster and far more efficient than it was when everything was done at the MK gate.

When you exit the hotel onto the monorail platform there are bag check tables and metal detectors just like at the parks but on a smaller scale. We had to do this a few times at the Poly and Contemporary and it took a minute or so. I’m not sure what it’s like around park opening.

We did it from the Poly about half an hour before park opening during our July 2017 trip. The line seemed long from a distance, but we were surprised at how quickly we made it from the security check point to the monorail. We waited in a longer line after we got off the monorail to get our bands scanned into the park!

Well my December dates are peak holiday season so I am excepting too see crowd levels that I have never seen before, at the resorts. I go bag free at the parks and it is so awesome so we will most likely do the same with our December trip.

It didn't take that long. What we did find is that because of the baggage checks at the monorail stops the monorail seemed much slower due to waiting for people to go through the baggage check.

It was not a big deal in July, unless you are very lucky with your timing, you end up waiting for the monorail to show up anyway. So now you wait in security line.

If you can go bag-free that does speed it up by a few seconds but you do still go through the metal detector. The area is small (as they’ve had to fit tables and metal detectors into an area that wasn’t designed for them). At the Poly and GF we had to wait in line regardless and at the Contemporary people were allowed past the bag check straight through the metal detector (but the Contemporary has a larger area for this than the other two). There was no separate bagless entrance like at the parks.

You still have to go thru the metal detector and once you're screened you're likely still standing around waiting for the monorail. If one wants to bring a bag I don't feel that the screening at the monorail resorts adds any time. That is going to be dependent on if the train is just pulling in, is already sitting there or hasn't arrived yet.

Ok, may reconsider. I won't need a bag but the two teens may want to carry one.
