It's been since before COVID that we have been to Disney. My wife always likes to have a park bag. Is the old security guard going through every bag still standard or is there a contactl-ess system in place now?

There is a contactless system in place now. You just walk through some sensors unless you have a stroller or an umbrella or larger metallic object.

With the new security you just walk through a metal detector and if it goes off they may ask to look in your bag.
Its actually pretty great. Had 5 day park hoppers in August and never had to stop for bag check.

If she does have an umbrella, sunglass case, big battery like for a video camera, or other large metal object, she just needs to carry them out in front of her when she walks though the scanner. Security is a breeze now with the new scanners.
That works 95% of the time. We were there in Sept. and I had on a fanny pack with a small flip wallet, charger cord and poncho in it. I was carrying my phone and my lipstick type charger in my hands, no umbrella (I actually had one but it was in the stroller with my grand daughter). I got flagged and sent over to bag check. O.k. no big deal I took off my fanny pack and unzipped it and stuck it on the table. The security person just sort glanced at it, didn't open it and waved me on by. I have no clue what the person looking at the scanner thought they saw unless it was the person in front or behind me. They tell you not to wait for the person in front of you like you have to do at the airport, to just keep on going. It was at IG so there was only one person in front of me at the table and I still was done before my son with the stroller.

I have a small backpack that I take with me. Going through the metal detector, I hold my camera, umbrella and batter charger out in front of me and i can pass right through. Learned the hard way that an umbrella in the backpack will get you into the manual screen lane.

Quick and easy. However, as others said, umbrellas seemed to set them off often, in or out of bags. Keep things in front of you and centered on your body for best results.

My sons eyeglass case set it off every time last month even holding it out in front of himself.
This! Every day I got stopped. It wasn’t crowded so it wasn’t a big deal but if it’s a high crowd day I could see it being annoying!

Same experience. Got stopped no matter what we did for apparently a thin metal hinge on a sunglass case? There's more metal in the actual glasses on my face but that's what they said it was. I don't know enough about this to say it isn't I guess. Put us way behind from where we started at every rope drop. :(

Hard glasses cases have more metal inside them, those are usually the ones that set things off. And as far as I can tell, holding the items in front of you can still trigger the detector. But the security guard monitoring it can see what’s in your hands, so they know it’s nothing in your bag. So your bag wouldn’t need to be searched.

I found bag check during our last visit in June to be a much better experience than years prior. Maybe we were lucky, but it took relatively little time to get through bag check.

Completely agree. Once I learned what to keep out of my bag and in front of me, it's so much faster than the bag check line.

I was there last year and security searched our bags. Did that finally stop?

They haven't routinely searched bags since they reopened after the Covid closure. They will pull you aside if you set off the detector, though, and go through it.

Getting into MK was just walking through a metal screener. I did see bag check when getting on the monorail when staying in the Poly last week.

Answer is, yes there's a contact less system. I walked through HS entry yesterday. I passed between the scanners and done. He did ask I had an umbrella to remove it. I did have one with me. I was expecting a hassle. There was none.
