Back in December of 2015, I could go through the "Guests without bags" line with my fanny pack and they would do a quick search and let me through. Is that still the case now? Or has it changed?

Maybe. Maybe not. Some will let you in with a small bag and some will send you to the bag check.
I've got a pouch that holds nothing but my phone but it's on a strap so I can wear it cross body.
I have been sent over to the bag check even with just that. It doesn't even have a pocket for anything more than my phone.
I've gone to putting it all in DH's pocket and taking it from him once in the park. If the there are lines for bag check

In the past few weeks, any bag regardless of size has been sent to bag check that I've seen at all parks. And they've been pulling people consistently for security checks from both bagless and bag lines.

YMMV, and it could depend on what's going on at the time. I know recently there have been a ton of people, a few incidents, and a few celebrities on site, so that could be the reason for the current increase. If you're going in a more crowded time, plan on bag check. It also doesn't help that they funnel the exiting crowd through the bagless entrance.

It's a bag, and you need to go to bag check. When we were there in January, even people with a phone case wristlet were being sent to bag check.

Depends on the security guards. You got lucky the times you went through. Usually you'd be sent to the bag check line. Fanny pack, wristlet, etc..are all sent through back check unless a security guard there just feels like taking a quick look and sending you through. It's not new though as this was common practice all last year.

So when you do go, you can try to get through the no bag line but don't be shocked if they send you to the line

You will be directed to bag check. They are more thorough right now than I have ever seen. They even open and look inside a small glasses case. They are checking every nook and crannie. That being said we saw a lady with a selfie stick sticking out of the Safari vehicle at AK today

Thanks for all the input guys. A fanny pack is a bag, yes, however, as I stated before I did not have to always go through the bag check. Just recently as December, they were allowing those with small bags (fanny pack, smaller cross body bags, even lunch bags) go through the no bag line, but would still do a quick check. They did not allow back packs, large bags, or strollers with bags in it. It was just for those with something small to help get through the lines quicker. I asked cause I wasn't sure if that was still the case, I now see they are being even more thorough than when we went in December. The world has gotten a little crazier, so I do expect them to thoroughly check the bag, I have no problems waiting in a bag check line. I just wanted to know the current situation for planning purposes as we aren't going for very long. No big deal, just a simple question, and I received my answer. Thanks again guys for those that responded with how bag lines are currently.

Cargo shorts! I've become adept at finding pants with the most pockets and stuffing them. Including a lightweight string backpack that I can fold up into a pocket then get out when I need to carry something (like the umbrella that I had hanging from a belt loop).

I've always gone through the "bag line" with my fanny pack, since it's a bag. They likely figured that you didn't understand and rather than taking the time to explain it to you, just let you by.

Nope, they told me to come through that way as they did to a lot of other people with small bags. It totally confused me, but I went with it so I didn't have to wait in line. ;)

Jan. 2015 they made me go through bag check because a pocket on my raincoat looked lumpy - like it might have something in it. (I have a lightweight raincoat, had it unzipped and they could see through the inside of the mesh-fabric pockets. I had no other lumpy or thick clothes on - it was easy to see I had nothing else in my pockets or on me.)

So I guess it varies, but I wouldn't assume that they'd let through cargo shorts with lumpy pockets or a fanny pack.

I'm guessing they've cracked down on letting strollers with nothing in the bottom through the no bag line as well. It always seemed like a crap shoot last year. One time I was stopped because a poncho was in the bottom carrier of the stroller. Another time it was because the stroller had a small compartment between the water bottle holders that was about big enough for a phone. I think this next trip I'll just go through the bag check line with it.
