Bag check question for recent visitors

How have the bag check lines been at rope drop for the parks in the last week or so? We are headed to Disney on Friday and trying to figure out if I will go bag less this trip or take a small bag along.

Also, is there still a separate line at rope drop at mk or ak for visitors with small bags? There was in March, although I could not use the shorter line with my small Disney Vera Bradley backpack.

Thanks for any replies!

Two weeks ago: bag check lines looked daunting at MK for RD,, but as we were approaching they opened a whole other side and we moved right up front. Mostly we went bagless when we could, but we still often got pulled in to go through the metal detectors. I've been told that right now Disney is trying to run about 80% of guests through metal detectors, so don't think you're fitting any kind of profile. You're just one of the 4/5ths.

We were in MK two days after the shooting at Pulse in Orlando. The bag check line didn't seem any longer or slower than it did prior years.

I did RD at Epcot on Thursday (EMH) and RD at MK on Friday (EMH). I was the 3rd person in line both times and got through in no time at all. I did not even see any metal detectors at Epcot (not sure if it was just because I got in so quickly or if there really weren't any), at MK on Friday morning they were having everyone go through the MD but my friends who came later said it was back to random so maybe because there were just so few early and it wasn't really adding extra time?

Anyway, I had no problem any day or at any park. Most times we walked right up to an empty side of a table and got right in.

We just returned from 10 days. Every day was very easy and quick. No different from the past 4-5 years we have gone. A few days we were selected for the medal detectors. A couple days everyone was ushered through. It did not add any significant time to getting into the parks. We found the crowds to be VERY low.
Our last day in the MK--July10--the bag check took a very long time. Each and every security line was checking EVERYTHING. Every zipper opened--every wallet opened. It was really something. I was actually wondering if something had happened.

This was how bag check was in March. Every compartment of backpacks had to be opened and examined. I even saw the guards checking the stitching in backpacks - possibly looking for hidden compartments. It made the lines move super slowly thru the bag check area. Hoping to avoid that on this trip if I can!

There's always been a bag check, or entrance for no bags at every park. They don't have a small bag line

We found the bag check lines to be very quick and no issues with long lines.

The random security checks were also very quick.

Today at 2o'clock, I waited 20 minutes in the blazing sun to get through bag check. The checks were meticulous, even glasses cases were opened.

The first week of March, they had temporary bag check lines set up at the mk and ak at rope drop. They put them in the center of the left and right bag check lines - in the area where you normally walk when going bag less.

The only stipulation was that you had to have a small bag or purse to use those lines. No backpacks were allowed.

Wondering if that is still the case at rope drop

I never had to wait behind more than two people to get my bag checked (but usually I just walked right up). By the third day, I learned to unzip every pocket before I got to the security guard and that also helped.

We also recently returned from a 10 day visit. The first couple of days I took a bag and then after that, went without. We went for 10 days, two parks or two visits to the same park daily and one time we hit three parks in the same day--EVERY single time that we went through the gate, I was asked to go through the metal detector--with the exception of one time. The rest in my group were asked several times too, but not as often as I was asked. It didn't bother me at all--it took a couple of extra seconds--but it was something that we all chuckled about. Going bag-less was pretty freeing!

We just got back from a two week WDW vacation. Bag check wasn't any longer than it has been during our other trips this year. Not bad at all. Someone from my family was "randomly selected" each time we entered a park. The only time we thought the bag check was awful was during an afternoon rain storm. They had moved security up right by the turnstiles. That caused a huge back up, and took about 15 minutes to get through (not good when we were trying to get to a fast pass).
