Bad Spelling

I hait mispelled wurds. I hoever, am an english teacher and I am the wirlds werst speller - well, not realy the wurst. I do have to secund guess myself allmost all of the time.

Did ewe no that that the inabilitie to spell well has a direct corelation with a lack of fonics reading instruction and a higher than avrage IQ.

Then I have to point out that you meant it bothers you "a lot". There's no such word as "alot".:sunny:

Sorry, I just couldn't resist since this was about spelling and I've been correcting my students on this one for years!:teeth: Not meaning to pick on you or anything, since you are one of my very favorite people here. I just couldn't help it. :p

YIKES!! You GOT me, Gem!!!

RhondaS used to LOVE to catch me... I deserve it!

I like it when I'm caught.... a LOT!!

After I quit being a teacher, I became an engineer. Engineers are notorious for being bad spellers. I became their spell checker before word processing.

Seperate is one of my biggest cringes. It's sep AR ate.

And I always understand the passionate writers who type faster than they spell.

Bad spelling doesn't necessarily bother me. I am dyslexic and have issues with that a lot of the time. I do get bothered by seeing their, there & they're used incorrectly as well as seeing alot instead of a lot or alright instead of all right. But not enough for it to be like fingernails on chalkboard for me ;)

There are lots of reasons why a person may have problems with spelling. Some may have a hard time seeing the computer screen and may not notice a misspelled word. Some people may not be as educated as others, but that certainly doesn't mean they are less intelligent. Still others may be very well educated but may suffer learning disabilities that make them appear ignorant. I would never jump on somebody based on their spelling abilities.

Some people suck at spelling. Others suck at math, computer technology, chemistry or physics. Unfortunately, for the poor spellers, their flaws are more obvious when posting on a public message board. I would hate to see their input disappear because they are afraid to offend people with their spelling problems. I hope we can all remember that none of us are perfect and that all of us have important things to share here, regardless of how well we deliver our words.

Yes, I'm sure I have had my share of spelling errors.

I guess it bugs me a little when people use there and their incorrectly or quiet and quite.

Of course, I was spelling bee champ at my elementary school so it should bother me.:teeth:

It DEFINATELY does! But I have made mistakes, too. I try not to pass JUDGEMENT. Sometimes it is a TRUELY difficult task.....:D

Bad spelling doesn't really bother me. I don't even usually notice.

What DOES bother me is how kids/teens these days type like this..

y r u gon 2 b late, u noob!

Very annoying!!

Yes, bad spelling bothers me. So does the wrong choice of spelling. I don't like it when someone uses "loose" when it should be "lose". The sentence should be "She needs to lose that loser of a boyfriend." not "She needs to loose that looser of a boyfriend." Lose means to misplace or get rid of; loose means not tight.

I also can't stand it when people use the word "sight" instead of "site". It's a website, not a websight.

It also bugs me when people type in all caps or all bold. I feel like they are screaming at me.

Kindergarden or kindergarten....??
misspelling bothers me too...:o

I've been known to second guess myself, so I keep Dictionary.com as my first bookmark!
I'm sure there are other issues here as well, like punctuation...but that's a whole different story!

Misspelled words don't bother me here, I can usually figure out what everyone is talking about and sometimes we get so excited or simply don't check how our posts read, we just can't wait to click that button to be heard!
