A few of you on FB were following this last night as it was happening. For those who weren't, there was a serious fire across the street from my house last night. A neighbor's home went up in flames just before 8 p.m. and is now destroyed. It took all three of the town's fire departments to contain the blaze along with several from a neighboring town. The flames were finally put out around 11:30. The house is completely totalled and will likely be demolished as only half of it remains.
Fortunately, the elderly woman (who has mental problems and is a horder) was not at home when the fire started. Unfortunately, her pet dog and cat were and did not survive. It is likely that this is due to the contents of the house causing the fire to become more powerful in a short amount of time.
Please think ahead and make sure you have a plan to get not only the human members of your family out in the event of an emergency, but also your pets. My heart hurts for these two that were lost.
Below is a picture of the house when the fire was put out in the front, but still going in the back. It is from a local newspaper.
