Although I voted for bad food, in reality it would have to be both. And over several visits.

I can see a particular server giving bad service, or the kitchen having an off night. So, I'm willing to try most any place more than once.
:thumbsup2

Definitely bad SERVICE.

Bad service can make even the best food taste terrible. I don't care how good food tastes, if the waitstaff is rude, unprofessional, or ignores me, I will go somewhere else to eat.

But if the food is bad and the service is good, then they will do their best to correct the bad food as best they can (or even comp the meal and ask you to come back again). Plus, you just can't help but enjoy a meal where someone goes out of their way and gives you some extra attention and pixie dust!

The experience is what makes a place.

The exception to this is a place where the food gives you food poisoning or something like that (happened to me at a very very fine restaurant that i had visited several times and had over the top service....then one dose of food poisoning...they will never see me again)...NOT a Disney restaurant.

If the food is bad, it's bad not a whole lot they can do to change it. If the food comes in frozen and they throw it in a pan it's going to be bad.

If the waitstaff or kitchen is having an off night, or someone calls out for some reason then the service will be totally different the next night. I can deal with that, but bad food is bad food no changing that.

Same here. I definately go back to a resturant again. Everybody and every place has off times .

If I have something I don't like, I will just try something else the next time, but if the service is bad, I won't go back.....which is why we have never ever gone back to San Angel Inn.

you can be served the best food ever but if it was served with a sneer, no refills, never checking if you need more bread - this can ruin a perfectly cooked food.

So if the food is bad, depends - I may have ordered something that is not their specialty. Might go back. If I have horrible service, that will turn me off faster than anything else and it does detract from the food. (Hard to enjoy dinner when you are mad or annoyed )

(for me, I would not go back to 'ohana if the meal was free )

Interesting thoughts on the topic :)

I have to go with the bad food also. If I look at a menu & don't see anything I like I just won't eat there but I would say it was a bad restaurant. But if I do eat somewhere & the food is awful then I would consider it to be a bad restaurant. I've eaten at Liberty Tree Tavern for dinner many times with mixed results. Overall, I don't care for the food they serve. I've had a mixed bag of issues with the servers and the character handlers over several visits. I think over the years I've given them enough chances that I wouldn't book the dinner there again unless I was going with someone that was dying to eat there. I kept going back more for the character experience than the food but it just isn't worth it to me to return again. I'd rather have a meal I enjoy elsewhere. I wouldn't say Liberty Tree is a bad restaurant but it definitely is lacking in my opinion. And while a bad server doesn't reflect well on a place of business I'm more willing to give a restaurant a second chance even if I wasn't pleased with the service. Of course if over time I felt I never received good service at an establishment I probably would choose to stop going there because no matter how good the food may be consistently bad service isn't acceptable.

I voted for bad food. The whole reason to go to any restaurant is the food. But, I will say that DH and I had bad service at one restaurant and both of us will not go back. The service was that bad and the food wasn't good enough to make up for that.

I agree interesting poll. I would have to say that if I had a bad server I would probably give a restaurant a second chance. If I had bad food there is little chance that I would go back to that restaurant. In fact from experience I have given places with bad service more than one chance. However since the bad service continued with different waitstaff have decided it is the company ethos and will not return to either restaurant again even though the food when it came and what we had was pretty good.

I think the specific problems would weigh more than what kind of problem. For instance:

Bad food - the ingredients seemed cheap or poor quality - I probably won't return.

Bad food - the steak was overcooked or the sauce was runny - that is probably just bad luck on my part, and I'd be willing to give the restaurant a 2nd chance.

Bad service - the waiter disappears and I can't find them. When I flag down someone else, they immediately get me some assistance or a manager. I'd probably return.

Bad service - the waiter disappears, but when I flag someone else down, they shrug me off since it isn't their table. I start assuming bad service is in the culture, and I won't go back for a long time.

Interesting poll - I'd definitely give a restaurant another chance if there was bad service because you may just have an "off" server or an "off" night. If the food is bad, though, it'd be hard to get me to go back.

Same for me.

I voted for bad food because if it tastes horrible or we don't like it then we know not to return to that specific location. Now we never had bad food at any restaurants in WDW, however there are two restaurants in Toronto we have been to just once and didn't return because the food tasted horrible. In fact one of those restaurants closed a few years ago.
