Bad Experience at POFQ

We also had a problem with our POFQ stay in August 2006. Our family of 5 was traveling with another couple and had requested connecting rooms. When I asked for connecting rooms at check in the CM called over a manager. I wasn't demanding connecting rooms but it would make things a lot easier as I didn't know how my DS would be in the rooms with our friends. So the manager gets on the phone and I hear her say "I see those rooms but I don't want to give them those". Then she goes in the back room and the original CM comes out and says they found us rooms but they aren't ready. So we go to Epcot and call to get our room numbers. We left Epcot before closing and get back to POFQ around 9pm. By now everyone is exhausted. We go to find our rooms and one room is propped open by the door latch. We push the door open and the room has NO furniture. The connecting room has at least 20 matresses in it.

We went to the front desk and they quickly found us connecting rooms in building #7 that are water view. I could care less about water view. We did have to wait a while for our luggage to be delivered to our new room. I wonder why the didn't fix this problem when they tried to deliver to luggage to the room with no furniture. The next day I went to tell the manager about the rooms she assigned to us and she laughed at me. I told her isn't wasn't fun with a cranky DH and 3 tired kids and she said it wasn't her fault.:sad2: We didn't have any problems with housekeeping during our trip. I will no longer go to a park til late at night on arrival day.

The next year we went to POR and while we had no problems there (housekeeping was awesome!) it wasn't fun seeing that same manager.

That's ridiculous. There's really no excuse for that, except that POFQ/mousekeeping goofed-up. For all your trouble, they should have given you an upgrade to a deluxe resort (I know, they don't do that). Sorry for the hassel you had to go through.

So sorry to hear about your problems. We were at POFQ last year and we were very impressed with housekeeping. DH got sick in the middle of the trip (with a pretty nasty allergy/sinus thing) and they sent housekeeping up to REALLY CLEAN (I thought it was already clean) the room. They brought some sort of heavy duty vacuum in and changed the beds and vacuumed the mattresses. They even left us an air purifier in the room for the remainder of our stay.

It did seem to me like they were used to hearing these sorts of complaints, but honestly we had a pretty spotless room. We had excellent housekeeping throughout our stay.

They did offer to move us to another resort, but DH really didn't feel like it was the room specifically...probably something blooming outside.

But we had an incident similar to yours at CBR 10 years ago and we haven't been back there. Loved the resort overall, but the room needed a major rehab (which they happened to get after we left). Housekeeping did a pretty good job...but there's only so much you can do with worn carpet, peeling and scuffed paint, and many years of dust accumulation in the corners.

We have reservations at POFQ for June. My sister and her family had their very first WDW trip in June 2008. They loved POFQ. She said everything was spotless. Their housekeeper was wonderful.

I am planning to take my own bed linens (because I like fitted bottom sheets) and maybe my own blanket. That would eliminate the issue of hair belonging to someone else in my bed. Do you think housekeeping would remove all the supplied bedding if asked?

Deb

That is really gross  I think after the 2nd room I'd be wanting to move to a new resort, too. I guess that Disney has such hard time hiring housekeepers that they keep the ones who can't clean worth a darn. They need to raise their expectations of their employees!

My husband and I recently had a bad experience at POFQ and we just want to give a heads up to anyone who may want to stay there or is staying there soon.

I've been and stayed at Disney World on 23 different occasions since 1985 and this was the absolute worst experience I've ever had.

We checked in to POFQ 12/23/2008 and were very excited because we've read so many nice things about it online in different places. When we got to the hotel around 10 am and our room wasn't ready and the front desk told us we'd have to wait until 3 pm. That's very normal for Disney hotels, so we were fine.

We went to the parks at 11 pm, got our hotel room number, and went up to our room. The room was absolutely filthy. There was hair all over the floor of the sink area, in the bathtub/toilet area, and in the bathtub itself. The floor was all smudged and had dirt marks on it too. Plus, on the carpeted area by the beds, there were six fingernails in different locations on the floor... it was clear the floor of the room had NOT been cleaned.

The worst part was when we pulled down the sheets and there was a lot of hair in the sheets in BOTH of the beds. Plus there were some other nasty things in the sheets I'd prefer not to even mention.

My husband complained to the front desk and they gave us a new room in a new building still at POFQ. In that room, the floor and bathroom were clean, but both of the beds had hair under the pillowcases and some in between the sheets.

We decided to leave POFQ and stay at a different Disney resort. By this time it was 12:30. The manager was not helpful and wanted us to A. take her to the rooms and show her the hairs and nails, and B. keep checking different rooms until we found a clean one we would stay in. After an hour and a half (literally) of discussion/arguments with the manager, we finally were able to have the money we paid for that night transferred to the new hotel as a credit, which the manager did NOT want to do.

Please, beware of the POFQ and think twice about staying there. If you already have plans to stay there, make sure your bed is clean before you stay.

Sorry you had a bad experience. DH said he found trash behind our bed and I had many many problems at check in and was not thrilled w/ our stay.....I have to make dinner or i'd be telling a story :rotfl:

I would most certainly have taken her up on that offer, and also asked her to personally take you to any alternative room so it could be checked before she left you. If it was that bad I'd have taken some photos too, to be honest.

Disney resort mousekeeping does seem a little patchy, and while 99% of the time it's fine, when it gets bad it does seem to get VERY bad. And that applies across all of the Disney resorts.

Sorry for the bad experience you had, it really does sound like you got late-night leftover rooms which had not been processed properly.

Andre

Yep.

So sorry to hear of your disappointing experience!

I saw some other posts on the DVC board about similar experiences, hopefully the resort management will pay heed and make some changes.

I hope your new resort stay was Magical!

I would encourage you to contact WDW. Something unrecognized will never be corrected!!

They'll never know unless someone tells them. And any discourteous manager should really be reported, also. So report, report & report! :thumbsup2

We stayed at POFQ January '08 and enjoyed a spotless room.
Believe me I can get quite picky about cleanliness, but our room (in building 2 facing the fountain) was immaculate & well stocked.

FWIW, We do often arrive @ our WDW resort very late--after midnight & on a Friday/Saturday to boot--and have never received an untidy room, so I really don't think sloppy housekeeping--or NO housekeeping!-- is a shift problem just as it is not a problem confined to a particular level of resort. As a PP said, it can happen at the Deluxes, too.

Hoping you enjoyed a Magical vacay despite all that unnecessary garbage you had to put up with!

I'm sorry to hear that! It might have been because you were staying during one of the busiest times of the year (not that thats an excuse.. I'm just saying its possible)... we stayed in September and had a fabulous time (I posted a bunch of pics in the Room Photos Forum on the POFQ Pics thread).. the room was extremely clean.. we did a thorough check every day (cause we've been hearing all kinds of horror stories).. and the room was quite clean every time.. Also.. when we arrived our room was already ready.. and this was 9:45 am! It might have been because we called 3 days before and requested a river view specifically (we had paid for a water view but wanted a river view).. we got exactly what we wanted and we got it extremely early!..

We loved it so much we already booked next year on a bounceback! Just wanted to add my experience for anyone whose deciding whether or not to stay here..

I am sorry this happened to you

We didn't stay at POFQ, but we were at POR. It does happen. My kids loved POR, but we had issues there from the get go. When we checked in, we proceeded to our room and opened the door only to find someone elses stuff in there. WE trudged back to the main building to get switched. Guess what? The second room was already occupied also.

By the time I got back to the main buidling again I was not exactly in a very magical mood. One saving grace was that the CMs and the manager were extemely apologetic and very helpful. In order to straighten it all out they were constantly on the phone with someone doing the room assignments. It got very confusing but, in the end, we did get a nice corner room.

The following morning my son got bitten (or stung) by something while we were eating breakfast (i can't even remember the name of the counter servicce place @ POR) and immediately had a reaction. The Fire/EMS were there within minutes. Later that day we had a nasty run in with , literally, the largest water mocassin I have ever seen in my entire life. It stretched from the sidewalk (the one leading from the pool to the playground) all the way up to where the top of the water slide was. OKAY, THAT WAS BY FAR the worst of the bunch. I would have walked into 100 different people's room over running into that snake!!!!

Funny: we were only supposed to be at POR for one night then over to WL for the remainder of our stay. The kids liked it so much, we ended up staying even after all the stuff that happened in the beginning!

Sorry that happened to you, but as been already stated, it can happen in any resort.

We stayed at POFQ for 14 nights in November and we have absolutely no complaints. Mousekeeping was fabulous! The room was spotless everyday!

So to anyone thinking of or already booked at POFQ - don't let the original post put you off! If you scroll through DIS you'll find a similar post about EVERY WDW resort hotel. Snake nest in Contemporary? Yup! Bed bugs POR? Yup! Bad mousekeeping CSR? Yup! The list is endless!

Sorry you had a bad experience! We stayed there in June 2008 and it was perfect (for our honeymoon.) Our room was the cleanest of any mod that we've visited, and we definitely plan on staying there again in the future.

I know it's hard to sometimes admit that you may have an attitude toward a manager (of any business), but when you're upset and it's late, it's natural to sound..not so nice sometimes. Maybe you had an edge in your voice when you spoke to the manager so that person was on the defense? I know I've been guilty of doing this to managers before, whether I mean to do it or not. Let's face it, the first day of traveling and late nights can leave anyone stressed out.

None-the-less, that's the managers job and she should have handled it more appropriately; definitely not making excuses for anyone. But, like I said, we love this place and the staff. I'm sorry your experience wasn't more like ours!

We had a similar experience at POFQ. Again, no staff member willing to help us with SEVERAL complaints that we had. I am not that picky. I am perfectly fine staying at POP. When something like that happens at a certain resort, it leaves a bad impression. Unfortunatelyl it can happen anywhere. It just happen to us at POFQ.

Wow! Sorry about your stay. POFQ doesn't sound like a resort for me.

A good manager doesn't get on the defensive. A good manager knows that the customer is not an adversary.

A good manager doesn't get on the defensive. A good manager knows that the customer is not an adversary.

But even good managers reach the point where they just can't take anymore. I'm not saying this was the case with the OP at all, but I have issue with your comment. I have worked with many good managers, and even though they are good managers they are still human, and may slip up and be not so nice if pushed. Managers, even good ones, are not robots.

sagoofy123- I dare to say that every single Disney resort has had a post like this at one time or another. Bad housekeeping can happen at any resort. As can a manager being not sonice. I wouldn't let concern over something that probably won't happen to you keep from booking any resort that appeals to you.

Sorry you had such a terrible experience. We stayed there in October and absolutely loved it. The rooms were clean, etc. and I am very picky when it comes to the cleanliness of my hotel!
The trip before we stayed at CB and found that our rooms were not cleaned to our satisfaction. Straw wrappers under the beds, hair in the tub, 2 inches of dust on the shelves.
As some have said before, it's probably the luck of the draw when it comes to the mousekeepers. I definitely would have marched back in with the management to point out all the gross stuff.

Very sorry to hear that you had a bad experience at POFQ. I was there in 07 and had a wonderful trip and would like to go back again, if it all possible.

I do remember a time several years ago when I stayed at the Hotel Royal Plaza on Disney property. We went to the parks during the day, came back to the room to freshen up and then we were going to go get something to eat. When we got back to our room, the power on the wall with the tv, lights and a/c was dead. I went to the front desk and within about 30 minutes, they had given me a new room (upgraded), help to move all of our clothes and a free breakfast in the restaurant in the hotel. Needless to say, I was very happy with the change and the customer service.

If it makes you feel better this is a trend at many many hotels. We recently stayed in a brand new hotel that was part of a really exclusive chain (Think Marriot, etc.). Beautiful place, only 3 months old, beds were perfect, closets empty and clean, no dust, not a speck of dirt or hair anywhere, everything exactly as you would want it except for, get ready for it, brace yourselves, the VOMIT on the photo over the credenza and down the wall behind the credenza. I kid you not! Though at least when I complained the manager was most apologetic and conciliatory.

Stayed at POFQ many times, never had any issues. (last time in 07)
I wouldnt think twice about staying there.
Im suprised to hear you had any issues.
I'd stay there again in a heartbeat,-
Im sure your issues are EXTREMELY rare.
and, after all you did get credit for that night, good ending to a long night.
'Good ending to a long night'??? Doesn't make it acceptable.
