bad dinning reviews

Another down vote for Akershus... the characters were wonderful, but the food was completely forgettable!!

I am concerned about the Coral Reef now, we are looking forward to going this summer... does anyone agree that its not that great?? :listen:

Unfortunately, it seems like you often have to sacrifice food quality for character interaction. CRT is a good example of this. We just tell ourselves that we are there for the characters and the food is secondary.

There are exceptions, where the characters and the food are good. Chef Mickeys, Garden Grill in Epcot and Liberty Tree Tavern come to mind.

I'll agree with previous poster's comment regarding the variablity of reviews.

What one person will love, will not be what another will appreciate.

Any restaurant can have an off night.

We used to love CRT as our first night dinner and then we ordered a pot-pie appetizer and something else that was just awful and we've have been back.

We had a lackluster meal at BD one trip (a party of 20 sat right before us) and I made some poor choices on the menu. Last trip is was just magical. The chocolate cake was superb. One of the best meals on property.

Sci-fi is one of our favorites and a must do. The onion rings are heavenly!

I'm kind of amused by the criticisms against Rose and Crown as not being "authentic" enough. First, when did British food become haute cuisine? It's a pub. As long as they've got Guinness on draft, I'm happy. Second, it's Epcot, not England. If you want something authentic, spend your vacation in London not WDW.

And I agree with the posters who define the difference between food that is actually bad and accounting for different tastes.

I was surprised to see the criticism of Rose & Crown too. Of course I'm not in England, I'm in Ireland, but we're obsessed with fish & chips here too, just as much as the U.K., :lmao: and we make a pretty good hand of them too! We LOVED the food at Rose & Crown - we all agreed the fish & chips were delicious, as were the desserts. They didn't do a bad job of the Guinness either - it's never gonna taste like it does here in Dublin, but it was a lot better than some 'Guinness' they have abroad which tastes nothing like the real thing. Great restaurant.

A real good reason to check out the menus online before visiting a particular restaurant. Though I've found the food at CR to be fine, I wouldn't disagree with some other posters who say the selection is fairly limited. I actually believe that to be true about most WDW TS restaurants--they purposefully limit their menus to keep costs down, not unlike many nicer restaurants in the "real" world. As for price, while I agree CR isn't cheap, it isn't out of line with just about any upscale restaurant in any decent-sized city. When we dine at WDW, we expect to pay a bit more than usual; then again, it IS Disney where bottled water costs you $2.50. It's all part of the experience. The moral: check out the selections and prices online before you go. Bon apetit! paw:
I think you haven't been "out there" very much! For the price of Coral Reef,, one would expect the food to match. Price doesn't mean squat if they can't own up to it. Atmosphere included!! If you are not seated in the first two sections...... forget the view.

To start, I would say that we really liked CR...I didn't particularly enjoy my entree (trout), but the food DSis ordered was divine(Mahi-Mahi). Our server did point us in that direction, so I should have taken his advice. He was a wonderful server.

We also like Rose and Crown. If my children had the opportunity, they would eat there every night. However, fish and chips is definitely the restaurant's specialty, so if you don't like that, you might want to skip it.

As for restaurants we won't try again:

Norway: I ordered the salmon. It was overcooked and the mustard sauce completely overwhelmed the flavor of the fish. To its credit: there were a number of interesting cheeses in the cold buffet and the pasta DSis ordered was tasty, but enormous.

ABC Commissary: Absolutely awful.

Columbia Harbor House: We had heard good things about this CS so decided to try it. It was awful. The fish in the fish basket was completely unidentifiable and dry and tasteless. The kids macaroni and cheese looked like a mushed up mess of nuclear orange gunk. DS said, "I am glad you said I don't have to eat this!" The upstairs was quiet and pleasant, but the food was completely inedible.

I have never said it is not 'authentic, indeed I have refered to is as common cheap 'pub grub'. In my opnion, o the times I have been there it has been particlaly bad pub grub, but I can't say it is not authentic in that way, been in too many bad pubs that also have the same problem.

There are also many good pub restruants, which althogh they are not haute cusisine, can provide very good quality tasty food. I just see it as a little sad that the experience I have always had has been to the poor end rather than the good end of the market.

Liamandcali, I hope you give Columbia Harbor House another try...maybe you were there on an off day, but the sandwiches are great! As for the fish, well it is fried fish...but try soup or one of the sandwiches and I think you will enjoy them.

I have to agree with the Coral Reef...I had the vegetable strata there a few years back & it was so bad I ended up not eating lunch & getting a big pretzle later that afternoon. Sad thing is, it used to be really good & special!

Sci-Fi was also very yucky-making...

I loved the breakfasts at Tony's, but that is no more & lunch & dinner are not too special...

I don't count counter-service restaurants because you cannot not compare fast food to any table service...it's all pretty much the same & better than McDonald's most of the time...cheese sauce on fries at Pecos Bills is sooo worth it anyhow....

Worst Sitdown I've had.
Without doubt Marrakesh.

"I hated the secret ingredient on the lemon chicken. Well that was mainly because the secret ingredient was lemon. It was so secret we couldn't taste any. The Lemon Chicken would have been better if they threw Mrs Dash Lemon pepper on it. It was that bland.
Of course that little problem wasn't all that bad compared to the fact that as soon as we bit into it, it wasn't cooked. And it wasn't even close. "
Worst Counter.
ABC Commisary. We got there early. But everything had already been sitting out a long time. They still hadn't gotten through it all when we left. So the people that came in 1/2 hour after us really got some bad stuff. This was the only counter service of the week we weren't happy with.

First, there is nothing more gross than biting into a piece of raw chicken!!! :scared1: :faint:

Second, what is up with the ABC Commisary? I had to throw out my breakfast sausage it was so bad! How do you ruin breakfast sausage? I didn't think it was possible!

Alfredos in Italy: bland taste, food at room temp as if it had been sitting under a light for awhile, poor service--if you aren't drinking you pretty much get ignored. We've given this tries on 2 different trips and it was the same each time. Never again. :woohoo:

We love the food at Rose and Crown. I don't care if it's not authentic-it tastes good. Lamb stew, Cottage Pie. . . good stuff.

Out of all our trips, the worst food /experiences we've had was at the Princess Storybook breakfast in Norway (Epcot) and Hollywood and Vine at MGM.

The worst service we had was at Chef Mickey's.

We love Boma, Liberty Tree Tavern, The Crystal Palace, The Garden Grill, Le Cellier, Whispering Canyon and Donald's Breakfastsaurus for TS restaurants. We've never had a bad meal in any of them on numerous trips to each.

For counter service, we really like Cosmic Rays (MK) and the Tusker House (AK) the best.

First off CR comments..this is a hit or miss restaurant sometimes great sometimes eh the problem is they charge as if it is great. They change the menu seasonally and I think that may be why the opinions are so different. When we go in the summer it is usually very good(last year our waiter even remembered us from the previous year- remembering even what we drank!!!!- we must have overtipped :rotfl2: ) So we go everytime we are at Disney and roll the dice.....
Now for the ones I will absolutely not go back to ' Chef Mickey's breakfast- gross, Rose and Crown(the fish and chips were awful - so mushy not crisp (like the delicious ones at the stand outside and about half the price)service was just terrible rude and slow and wrong we got the wrong appetizer and meal! And they just dumped it on our table and walked away as we are saying" excuse me this isn't our food......." never again.....and finally The chinese restaurant (Nine Dragons) was just too MSG for me. Never again although the service was great.

Tony's Town Square. It's the only place we said we wouldn't do again. It wasn't gross but the sauce was very bland and the pasta was overcooked. On a positive note, we had a very personable and attentive waitress there.

Just thought I would make a comment here. I believe that food from other countries served here at WDW, is geared more to the American "taste", or maybe palate would be a better term. Over the years, Disney has found that a lot of us Americans do not like the taste of some of the foods from other countries prepared as they actually are in said countries. Therefore, they have changed the way a lot of foods are prepared at Disney because of the American taste. { or, for that matter, lack of it}

I'm sorry but that is just dumb!! When I want german food it is because I want GERMAN food not because I want to eat american food and call it german. Maybe that is why everyone says the food is "bland" everywhere because American food is just that, bland. The whole purpose for me dining at ethinic restaurants is to get away from the bland! Now I'm rethinking eating anywhere ethinic at Disney for sure!

I had heard the burgers were delicious at Beaches N Cream, so wanted to try one on our trip last Dec. The burger was terrible. The meat was old. This burger was worse than any counter service I have ever had at WDW and that's saying something, huh? ;)

The waitress we had was rude. She made it obvious our little party of two was not worth her time. She was really sucking up to the party of six next to us (read... bigger tip). She plopped our food down on the table with a bang. DGS' root beer float was in a glass that was placed in a bowl inside of river of spilt rootbeer. When she banged the bowl on table, some root beer splashed out. She said a flippant, "sorry" and then left in a hurry for me to clean it up. Unbelievable. Her whole attitude caught me totally off guard. You just don't expect this kind of treatment anywhere. To top it off, before we could even think of ordering dessert, she wizzes by our table and leaves the check without stopping and without asking us if we would like dessert. It was such a disappointing experience as I had always had such fond memories of B & C. From now on, icecream only at B & C, but if I ever get stuck with that waitress again, I will ask for someone else.

Tink

We must have had the same waitress.

The only restaurant that stands out in my mind is the Concourse Steakhouse at the Contemporary. The food itself was good. The waiter - absolutely horrible!! Worse than the waitress at Beaches and Cream. We actually complained to the management when we left.

We ate at Akershus in Norway last week....ICK!!! I had the pasta and it looked (and tasted) like it had been sitting under a heat lamp for a very long while. It was barely warm and mushy. DH had the salmon and it was WAY overcooked. He hardly ate any of it. We will not be going back :sad2:
The character interaction was great by 2 of the princesses and so-so by the other 2.

The Akershus in Norway...We went for the PSB dinner and while the character interaction was WONDERFUL!! The food was disgusting. My kids wouldn't even eat it. We will never go back there.

A lot of people love the place and maybe it is just we don't have a very seasoned palette, or maybe we got them on a bad day I don't know but we will not give it a second chance!!!

I think its more of an (uhum) yankee thing. We have been on a couple of cruises where they serve fish and onions and stuff for breakfast and the yankees just can't get enough. I dunno, I never really think of myself as a southerner until I see something like that.
