Honest, It's Not a Pizza! See!
Well today is another day and after the stressful and disbelief of everything that happened the previous day, decided to let DD sleep in and forego having an early breakfast at Boma's and take our time! There is plenty of time to try Boma's, we are here all week!
As an early riser at home, when I wake up and see that the room is pitch black, I assume that yes, it is early! I tiptoe out of bed and proceed to the balcony door and slowly pull back the curtain..... MY EYES! I'M BLINDED! The sun is shining brightly and I am jolted into a state of awake! I quickly pull the curtain back so as not to awaken DD and try to navigate the room after that blinding light! I fail greatly due to the fact I can't remember where anything is and proceed to trip! DD wakes up in a daze and asks "What's goin' on?!" I tell her and she laughs! She runs to the curtain and pulls them fully only to let me experience the horror once more and for her to shout with glee at seeing the animules out our window! According to her, the cattle and the zebras are back! I have to take her word for it 'cause without my glasses, I'm as blind as a bat! It's approximately 8:00 a.m. and I figure a by the time we do our three s's and get dressed it will be time to leave for MGM! Luckily we bought the cereal bars and still had some OJ left.
So what does one wear to meet a Disney Artist? Ok, DD has her own fashion views and as she has her seasons mixed up, it's her usual Roots Sweatshirt and shorts. Me, AKL t-shirt and jean skirt since lunch will be at the Brown Derby and seems to be classy!
We head over the the bus stops around 10:00 since we don't have to be there until 11:30. We wait not longer than 10 mins and we are off! We arrive a little early so we head into shops to look around. We go over to the Brown Derby just to double check to make sure our reservations are for today, I'm getting paranoid, OK! Everything is set and we head out until it is time to come back for lunch!
There is not enough time to do any of the rides or attractions, so it's back to the shops! DD is starting to get anxious and does not want to be late plus it was starting to get hot outside and our best strategy was to head back and wait at the restaurant so as not to have a complete meltdown!
As we are waiting the reservations area is becoming crowded which I think is a good sign as we have not eaten here before and still could not picture in my mind what a Cobb Salad looked like!
Someone walks in and the Hostess proceeds to speak with him as someone important (bear in mind he is wearing a hawaian type shirt) when it dawns on me! He must be one of the Artists! My heart starts to race because I did not pay attention to him and could not tell who he was. He asks if the Irma has arrived and just then she enters the Foyer! He turns around and just then the Hostess introduces us! IT's SAM EWING! He did STITCH! I am soooooooooo Happy for DD! Stitch is her fav! DD stands there dumbfounded with this huge smile on her face! It turns out Irma Cartaya-Torre is a Colourist and she also worked on "Lilo and Stitch"! Chalk up another point for Disney! They really came thru on this one!
We are taken to the private room where we are to have our lunch. We settle in and it's the usual ackwardness but that soon fades as both of these incredible people put us at ease! By the end of lunch it's like old friends getting together for some food, fun and laughs! We had sooooooo much fun and by the end of it all we were all acting silly! We got some great shots for our album and this is one experience that will always be remembered.
You are handed a menu which is specially printed with your name in it!
Lunch was fantastic and now I know what a Cobb Salad is! We started with a Lobster Bisque which was passable, Cobb Salad which DD was enjoying until she tasted the Blue Cheese!
Main course for me was the Filet Mignon, which was melt in your mouth! DD the Thai Noodle Bowl which she really enjoyed and highly recommends! They had the Pan-Fired Grouper, which I could understand if they have to do this lunch things a few times a week! Very rich food! Dessert was a Bananas Foster Mascarpone Cheesecake which looked better than it tasted or it was just too much food by this time!
As part of the lunch you also receive an engraved plate which the artists sign but unfortunately Sam cannot draw Stitch on DD's due to the fact that too many of these Souvenirs happen to show up on E-Bay and they have been instructed to just sign them! We end up two plates so DD has her own souvie and I have my own!
We walked away with such big smiles on our faces and made new friends! DD started off as a shy thing but by the end of our lunch we were all laughing and giggling like we have known each other for years!
BTW, the plates are wrapped in bubble wrap and placed in a Pizza Box! So if you saw a couple of Smiling Faces walking out of MGM with the Big Kid holding a Pizza Box! That was us! I felt silly walking thru MGM and with this precious cargo headed back to AKL! At one point had to prove to the Security Guards at the entrance that no it was not a pizza and I was being selfish by not sharing!LOL
If you have a hankering for drawing, I highly recommend this lunch! Not only for the food but the company! So hopefully one day, God Willing, you will be having lunch with my DD as a Disney Artist!
