I am looking at doing an AK tour. I've done the Keys to the Kingdom, and absolutely loved it. Anyone done the Backstage Safari or Wild by Design tour? I'm curious as to what the main differences are? Which do you think would be a better experience? Any input would be great!

I've done both. Wild By Design is all on stage. It's about the details that went into designing the park. It's OK, depending on the guide. Backstage Safari is a much better tour. They take you behind the scenes, to areas that aren't open to the general public, and you get a ride on KS with your group & guide to see more of the attraction.

After seeing a History Channel show about how certain attractions were conce and constructed, I opted for Wild By Design. I wanted to learn more about the construction. You get to talk to some of the CMs (gorillas, monkeys on my tour) too, and ask lots of questions without fighting for attention from the other thousands of guests.

It's underappreciated. Of the fifteen or so people waiting for tour guides my morning, I was the only one taking this tour. Not that there's anything wrong with a private tour at group rates ;).I'd do it again, even realizing the private tour was a fluke. I did learn things, and had fun.

Thanks for the answers, looks like I will be doing the backstage safari one in one of my upcoming visits.
