Was just reading the list of prohibited things in the parks and saw it said no backpacks.....did I understand that right? We usually carry one with bottles of water and camcorder and camera and such.....am I not allowed to do that anymore? What about a sling bag? I guess I will have to check at the hotel when we check in too.....geesh.

We got back on the 20th and I saw backpacks everyday we were there!

That doesnt apply to all backpacks, just ones that are bigger than the sizes listed there: 24x 15x18.

I went last week and brought my Disney backpack from 2004. It was fine. No one said anything about it.

Maybe they're talking about "backpack around Europe" type backpacks? I've taken my regular-sized one for the past billion years, and never had a problem.

We just returned two days ago and we carried one in. They do have to be checked before entering (it's quicker if you unzip and have it ready when you go up). I didn't see anyone turned away from taking one in. Have a magical time!!

Just got back on Mon. My DH carried a backpack everyday. Saw them everywhere.

We just got back also and took a backpack everyday with no problems. It's just the really big ones they are prohibiting.

Also, I believe rolling backpacks are prohibited. They may not be if they stay on your back but as far as I know, you cannot roll them around behind you.

True, but, they don't enforce it.

When did this start? We got back a week ago, not only were there huge backpacks, but coolers being wheeled around and also 4 people had small carryone suitcases with wheels pulled behind them. This trip was truly entertaining and that just added to the oddities of people! I've gone for years but this trip topped them all with strange guests and behavior! Must have been the heat, lol...

We have seen them stop suitcases and coolers before so I don't know how those got in. We always carry a backpack with water and snacks and have never had a problem.

Where did you read this. Could you either quote it or, if it was online, share the link with us? I'll bet the exact wording does not say that your average normal backpack is prohibited.

That's what I get for reading it too fast !! Thanks everyone for putting up with me !! I can now get my Mickey backpack out to pack !!

Prohibited Items

There are certain items which guests are not allowed to bring into the Disney Theme Parks or Downtown Disney. They include, but are not limited to:

Any trailer like accessory that is pushed or towed by a wheelchair, ECV or stroller
Wagons, skateboards, inline skates, scooters and shoes with built in wheels
Two or three wheeled methods of conveyance
Strollers larger than 36" x 52" (same size as the rental strollers)
Coolers, backpacks, suitcases with or without wheels that are larger than 24" in length, 15" in width and 18" in height (same size as the large rental lockers)
Coolers that are needed for medication canbe stored in a locker or at Guest Relations
Alcoholic beverages or illegal substances
Folding chairs except for those to assist as mobility aids
Weapons of any kind
Glass containers (baby food jars and perfume bottles are allowed)
Pets with the exception of service animals
At Disney's Animal Kingdom theme park, straws, lids and balloons are not permitted

We just got back and I carried one of those clear backpacks with me to the parks. The security people loved it! They all commented on how much they love those clear ones and how much easier it is for them.

I got this info from this web site main page.....some other info on the link too....

I remember trying to get on Thunder Mt Railroad with someone in front of me with a suitcase on wheels, very very annoying and bulky.....why would you want to take one of those big things in the park?? Makes it hard to get on and off rides easy.

You can carry a backpack around. They even sell them in the parks.

I've seen people with those suitcase things, too. I don't "get" it, but whatever floats their boat. For us, if you cannot shove it in a pocket, it doesn't go to the parks. I prefer to skip the lines for people with bags.
