I solve that problem by carrying mine on a BlackRapid Strap. I have the RS-W1. I keep an external flash and a walkaround lens (18-135) on my camera the whole time at the parks, and it never gets heavy. I just keep the fanny pack on my left hip, and the camera falls to my right. Easy peasy.
I don't know if this solution would work for you, but I've had great success with it and thought I'd throw it out there.
I have the same black rapid strap as you do, my only concern is having it at my hip all the time. I feel like it would just bump into everyone and smack little ones in the back of the head all the time LOL. I love the strap, but I would prefer something a little safer for such a busy place.
