We are first time WDW visitors next month!! 4 adults and 1 preteen (9ry old). I bought 4 waist packs for the adults for our cash, cc's, ids, antibacterial wipes, and ponchos. We also purchased waterproof cell pouches for our phones in case it rains and at the waterparks. That was my plan....minimalism. But is a packpack necessary? These waist packs seem to hold what we need but I see posts of people carrying camelbacks and packpacks with all sorts of goodies.

Have any of you used just a waistpack? I dont wanna lug my purse around all day.

I really appreciate the feedback. Thanks!

I go with the backpack but we usually have at least 1 bottle of water. I also like the room for small items that we may not want to send back to the room. I also carry a camera that would require another bag ( or I'd have to walk around like a tourist with it around my neck ).

People bring a lot of stuff with them to the parks. We are of the less is more group that prefers to go with just the minimum. So, no back pack for us.

I go totally bagless most of the time. I have a little slim wallet thing that adheres to my cell phone that holds my ID, CC, AP and a little cash, that is in one pocket. If I think it's going to rain I carry a disposable poncho in the other pocket. If it is going to rain all day, I carry an umbrella or put a heavier Disney poncho in a little runner's waist pack. My reading glasses are around my neck, sunglasses on my head. Don't need anything else.

In my experience the bigger the bag the more unnecessary stuff you have potential to cram in there. And then you're stuck lugging it around all day.

Keep it light. Just the basics.

In other words, stick with the waist packs. You might even find two of them enough between the five of you.

I have a great park bag that can be worn as either a waist pack or a small cross-body (it meets the requirements to let me wear it on almost all the Universal rides). It holds plenty, the only thing it doesn't hold is a water bottle and ponchos for 4. Ds2 carries the water bottle in his cargo pockets or on a carabiner attached at his belt, and everyone carries their own sposie poncho and high quality ziptop bags for their phones if it rains. The guys wear shorts with cargo pockets. My bag has minis of sunscreen, body glide, headache meds / pain relievers, eyeglass cleaning paraphernalia, band aids, moleskin, chapstick, my phone.

We can and have gone bagless, with everyone keeping their tickets / money in little coin purse bags on lanyards and other items in cargo pockets, but I like to have a few things with me and I hate cargo pants for myself.

I used a Lug Sidecar which is a water resistant waistpack/purse. Loved being hands free. I could fit everything I needed inside. For me, it was sufficient, but I think it just depends on you and your families needs.

The only exception was on days that we might need ponchos. DH brought a small backpack with ponchos on those days and I had my waistpack.

Totally agree with the less is more crowd. If waist packs fit everything you need, don't second guess yourself. I'm dreaming of the day we can go with just a small bag! :)

Are you staying on property? If so I go with my cell phone and magic band and always try to avoid any sort of bag if possible. One less line to go through when entering the park. So my vote is for less is more. Your fanny packs should be fine, but you could probably do even without them.

I only use a purse/small sling bag when the weather is funky, and I need to carry clothes with me(like extra socks,or a jacket) sometimes we start the day and it's cold, then it gets hot, then cold again by evening...otherwise I don't need much. I have a running buddy waistpack I'm considering bringing...not sure yet though.
