Backlot Tours

I have hear wonderful things about the backlot tour at MGM. Me and my SO love stuff like that and think it will be neat to find out about things going on behind the scenes and a 6 hour tour does not daunt us at all.

My promlem is, I don't know how to do it! Do you have to call and sign up? Does it cost anything? Where can I find information about it? I have looked, but I have found nothing. I can find info about the 25 minute one, but this is the huge behind the scenes one.

Has anyone here done it? What did you think?

There is an attraction at MGM called the Backlot tour. They take you around in a tram and show you things. It isn't that impressive. It is only about 15-20 mins.

Do you mean the Backstage Magic tour? That is the one that is 7 hours and goes to 3 parks:

the one you are talking about is the Backstage Magic Tour . As was stated it does go to three different parks. I cannot remeber the exact cost, but I know it does cost about $ !50.00 each person, but it is worth every penny of it.

According the the link given it says it is $199 per person. That is pretty steep. I don't mind paying if it is good, but I don't want to regret it. You say it is worth it?

Not only do you get to see alot of backstage stuff, but you also get taken to Costuming, Central Shops, the warehouse with all of the xmas decorations . the tunnel, we also got to see where the parade floats are stored.plus you get a wonderul lunch at mama Melrose;s at MGM. You are taken on a private bus and they have water on the bus for you at no extra cost. We have done this tour twice, and each time it was wonderful.

We just took the tour last week. Tour guide was Nancy--she knew everything!! It was definitely worth it. We thought it was very interesting and learned a lot. We had a really fun group.
One good thing was that this tour does not require paid park admission so you don't waste a day of your park pass if you don't visit a park that night.
Just plan to visit DDT or the Boardwalk that night--or relax from walking around all day.
The lunch at Mama Melrose's was fabulous. Make sure you're hungry!!!

Yup it stands for significant other. I don't think anyone else uses it. lol. It is just something I prefer.

We're taking this tour on 12/14. Presumably the Decoration warehouse will be empty. Any idea where they might take us instead?

Have really wanted to do this tour for years and finally get to- We got a 15% discount as DVC member and I think there are discounts if you use the Disney VISA card and maybe for AP holders. As long as I have eaten at Mama Melrose it has always been waiter and waitress service. You as a group will be taken to the back of the restaurant and seated at tables. The waiters will bring out dishes (and I mean dishes) of food and place them on the table and then you pass them around family style. Needless to say all the items ate Italian, It goes from Appeitizers to main course to desert. Also you get a choice of beverage. Water, soda ice tea, coffee hot tea. You will be stuffed when you leave.

Yes, it is worth it. This is the only tour WDW offers that does not also require park admission. Family style, all you can eat lunch, is also included. You are transported on a coach bus (not the regular WDW transport buses) from park to park. You will each receive a bottle of cold water and a free pin too. If you factor in the entire day, minus the park admission, it actually winds up to be the best tour bargain in all of WDW! AND, you will see some really cool stuff and learn a LOT of interesting things about the most magical place on the planet.
