Backlot Tour Studios: think it needs an overhaul or are you satisfied?

I love Studios...but lately feel backlot tour needs a lift. I know it is a walking and riding tour and I would leave the canyon part, but quite honestly, do we still need to see the Golden Girls House. granted they do show you "Herbie"

but what houses would you like to see replaced or how would you layout this tour?

They need some props that are current! not including Herbie of course. All of the props are from the 80's or 90's. Catastrophy canyon is the real attraction there and the backlot tour is really the que for that ride.

I just got back from Disney this weekend....we again took the Backlot Tour. I have to confess...they could change up the beginning now and again, but the tour itself was different the last two times I went. This time we did NOT see the houses at all. Instead new objects were added (giant elephant from some movie, tombs from Haunted Mansion, Herbie, as well as a few other props I'd never seen before) and we got to see some behind the scene action of the new Stunt show. Not to mention a large area was closed off for a future addition (so we were told). So it seems it has been changing somewhat which was nice. :)

The houses haven't existed for about two years. They were removed to put in the stunt show. I remember when the tour was a whole lot longer and included viewing the studios. The last time I was there the props for the PBS film "From here to the moon", were on the sound stages and one other was the set of the New Mickey Mouse Club. There were a lot of interactive things and scenes (set props) from movies like 101 Dalmatians. It all ended with the backlot tram tour to Catastrophe Canyon. It was way better back then. Not so much now!

The backlot tour has been whittled down so much over the years to the point where it is a candidate for complete removal. Not an altogether bad thing, since the park has morphed a great deal from the original concept. But, it used to be a very solid attraction.

I agree, all aboard. It used to be an excellent ride. If it had a lot of work done, it could be excellent again. However, maybe it's just best to gut it...only if they put something better, more innovative, and exciting in its stead. It may be a possibility from what I hear from the rumor mill, starting to really look at how the parks are doing and fixing/removing what needs to be. Let's hope BackLot is one of the candidates.

I think it used to be a lot better, also. It has potential to be a great attraction with some updating and lengthening the tour a bit. I don't thing we'll be doing this tour again any time soon unless it's renewed and improved....hopefully, that will happen.

At this point it really isn't much of a tour. Catastrophe Canyon is fun but there isn't the street of houses anymore. It is sort of a ride through the parking lot.

I would just like to be able to spend more time and see the props spread out more. The Canyon is nice but the ride up to it is lacking so we wouldn't miss that part much either.

The biggest problem with the attraction is that one of the things that made it such a good attraction was that you got to see aspects of a real, working movie studio. D-MGM is no longer a movie studio, so the attraction no longer makes sense. It takes up a good amount of space, which will be good news someday, when they decide to expand D-MGM.
