Is there a noticeable difference in the motion you feel based on what deck you are on (i.e. deck 2 compared to deck 6)?

And what about being in front of the boat versus the back?

Conventional wisdom says the motion is greater in the bow and the higher up you are (higher decks). I cannot confirm this as the weather was very different on the 2 cruises we were on (#1 - deck 2 mid ship; #2 deck 8 bow). We noticed significant motion on cruise #2, but there were 18 foot seas - my wife did get sick, but she is prone to motion sickness - none of the rest of us (me 2 kids - 7 and 4) were impacted.

Bow vs. stern - it does stand to reason that the bow would "bouce" more than the rest of the ship as it cuts through the waves.

Top vs. bottow - again, stands to reason that the higher you are on the ship, the farther you are from the center of gravity, so you would experience more side-to-side movement (like the end of an upsidedown pendulum).

I cannot confirm this first hand (no motion on cruise #1 - very smooth weather), but the physics seem to make sense.

::MickeyMo We were at the very back of the ship on the NCL Star last month, and I didn't notice any movement of significance and that was sailing in the Pacific which tends to be rougher. I was toward the front once on one of Carnival's mega ships and did encounter some motion.

Our favorite place to be on the ship are the Navigator Verandahs on Deck 7, toward the back. I am prone to motion sickness but rarely am bothered with it unless we're in rough seas or if I go on a shore excursion in a small ( 50 person) boat. Then I take BONINE,a wonderful over-the-counter med with no side effects !HAVE A GREAT CRUISE !!!:thewave:

I do know that on one of our cruises the kids were in Animators Palette (deck 4 aft) for an activity and most of them got motion sickness back there within the couple of hours they were there. We were in big waves (20 feet plus!!). We took our kids up to deck 9 and walked around there and played ping pong and they returned to their normal color instead of the shades of green :crazy2: they were earlier!!
