Back to the DIS after a tough patch

Hello all, this is my first post in over a month. We were in Disney when we lost Bob and if that wasn't bad enough when I got back to work on the Tuesday after the get together at the Gaylord Palms I was told that our area had been restructured and I was being let go. I have been with this company for 32 years and at 52 it was a shock to say the least. It's taken me this long to realize how much I missed the Podcast family and after to listening to to the gang the last couple of weeks its really helped get me back on my feet again. I didn't want this to be a "downer" post just a public thank you to Pete, Julie, Kevin, John,Corey and DIS unplugged community.
See you on the boards.

Rob.

It happens to the best of us. I understand what you are going through.

Keep the faith and something will work out.

Good Luck.

 So sorry to hear what happen to you! I am afraid that this is going to keep happening these days given the economy.

I am glad that the DIS helped you (somewhat) to feel better.

Good luck with the job search- sending some pixie dust your way!

P.S. Pete if your hiring I'm available;)

Hey Rob & Jan,
So sorry to hear about your loss. (And you are NOT a downer! We're a family!)

I was laid off from my job in April - after 9 years. (That's pretty good considering I'm only 28!) I really thought I would be at my company forever. I agree with all the other posters though. Corporations just don't have a heart anymore!

I was so scared because I had just made reservations to go to the World right before the big lay-off day! But everything has turned out for the better. I'm in a new job, with a great company, and my stress level is all but gone!

So needless to say, sometimes when something happens...it can be devestating...but it can sometimes be the best thing to ever happen to you.

Our thoughts and prayers are with you --- that you find a new gig --- that it's exactly where you should be --- and that provision from above sustains and keeps you and your family!

Rob -- Let us know if you would like us to put some kind of voodoo curse on the company. ;)

Seriously, sorry you are having to go through this at a time where your thoughts were probably running towards retirement...not job interviews. Hopefully something will turn up soon. :goodvibes

Rob I am also so sorry about your job. I hope it works out.
My Sis and her DH live in Las Vegas and they owen a business. Well, It is not doing so well.:worried: They are selling their house, and bought a smaller town house so the can save the business. They have had that business for 18 years. When i talk to her it is so sad. The casinos in Las Vegas are cutting jobs. I never thought I would see that happen. WEll, Rob good luck and I know that there is a good job out their waiting for you.;)

The double whammy must have been such a shocker. For me it took me until last week before I could go back to the podcasts.

DH has been laid off in the past, it's definitely tough. However, I hope you can leverage your long service's severance to your advantage and take time for some introspection on what types of things you enjoy doing and evaluate all your options - even a completely different career path, including entrepreneur.

As you can tell, I'm relatively new here but wanted to add that I don't think you have to worry about being a "downer". These boards are very supportive and always ready to lend our "ears" :rotfl2: - as you can see we're on Page 2 already. :goodvibes

All the best to you.

cheers,
:flower3:

You guys are the best, (which I already new) what a family this group is. Thanks so much for all your support, advice, prayers and best wishes, I'm feeling alot more confident that something good will come out of this. For the first 6 weeks I was in quite a funk but it was you guys and the podcast that got me up off my butt, got my resume finished and started the job search process. I'm fortunate that the severance pkg was such that I have time to consider my options. All my friends think I should put all this Disney knowledge to use and start a company advising people on their Disney vacations LOL.
I'll let you know how things progress, Thanks again your support really means alot. Rob

calypso*a*go-go..lets hold off on the Voodoo curse for the time being they still owe me some money....................
