This just in (from WDW News Today):

"Walt Disney World Resort has announced another change to their COVID-19 safety policies and will now require masks to be worn indoors regardless of vaccination status beginning July 30. This aligns with the recommendations from Orange County Mayor Jerry Demings and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention."

Seriously considering canceling our reservations for Dec 4-13. Our last visit in April with indoor mask policy WAS NOT FUN...nor Magical. I'll wait until closer to check-in, obviously, but this isn't what I want to spend Money for at Disney.

I know the feeling!!! We are booked for 2022 and praying that the masks are gone as a requirement and things open back up!!

We have April '22 ressies and unsure whether we'll have to cancel again (April '21 rescheduled to '22). SIL is hesitant on the vaccine, even for the kids so will be interesting whether they'll be able to travel from Canada or if he'll give in. Sigh he should be happy they're getting a free vacation to WDW/Fort Wilderness IMO but everyone has their own gut feelings I guess.

Headed there next week. No issues for me… will still enjoy. Would it be better with none, of course ,but won’t ruin it for me. Like anything else, everyone has their own set of what willing or want to do or pay for… Hakuna Matata… and perfectly understanding of those who would prefer to wait…

Mask wearing at Disney would not bother me. I due to chemo have to wear one to protect myself anyway. And will have a compromised immune system even when we return in 2022, so I will be wearing a mask then also.
And we wore them during our Disney trip in 2020, still had a good time.

We went camping at Christmas and the only thing that "bothered" us about the mask mandate was how often we would forget when running to the comfort station, lol. Honestly, I am double vaxxed but we wear them at work 8 hours a day, every day in the Florida heat anyway so just indoors or on rides is fine. I mean, we've been doing it for a year so it's not like it's new or strange like in the beginning last year.

Im still going, but masking dosen't make me happy. Just as long as there are areas to unmask. I do find it all a bit weird and confusing. But im not getting into the whole vax vs not vaxed thing . And what constitutes a mask or dosen't. Yea, covid is scarry , and if you want to mask up i get it. I still mask up at work in certian places, but then i get people telling me my rated particulate filter respirator isn't a good mask because its a gator style. They then make me put on a worse unrated sugical mask. This is while im on duty and they called me to help them, lol. It becomes a bit odd the reactions this whole thing has had on us all. And what one considers safe vs not safe.

I am always shocked by the number of amateur epidemiologists right now. It's like the internet is spilling over into all aspects of society.
As the OP, I want to clarify my intent with that post.

I'm not an epidemiologist, not in the medical profession. I am retired (pilot). I was advising our members of a new development in mask policy for their upcoming Disney visits. I also wanted to share my opinion that because our April trip wasn't enjoyable (mask required) we'd probably cancel if the policy didn't change by December. The amount of money these trips cost weigh heavily in the calculus of fun vs cost. The only thing our next trip has on the plus side is that it's in the cooler month of December. And apparently our vax status doesn't matter.

And, yes, the internet is well imbedded in all aspects of our society. No argument there...

I think that was on my coment, nothing about you. Sorry i tend to derail thoughts with my posts.......

Policy on COVID discussions.

The global COVID pandemic created unprecedented restrictions, disruptions and changes to our travel, work, shopping, schooling, social interactions and so many other aspects of our lives since the beginning of 2020. We’ve all been affected, and we have been inundated with news, information, mis-information, frustrations and opinions. We’ve heard them, we’ve shared them, we’ve argued about them.

The discussions, debates and arguments about the virus, distancing and masking policies, various politicians’ statements and actions have been overwhelming and divisive. Many threads on the DISboards have been derailed or devolved into arguments due to this topic. We understand the passion, but feel that we’ve let the discussions run their course. We are sure there are better places on the WWW to learn about and debate scientific, medical and political issues. The mission of the DISboards is to be a great travel resource and a friendly community.

Now that travel is opening up again, it’s time to refocus on that mission!

From this point on, we will welcome information on COVID policies RELATED TO TRAVEL. Things like the vaccination policies issued by venues or destinations, the cleaning or distancing procedures in use, practical tips for travelers or things they might need to know that are different from location to location are all valid topics. Any official policies issued by Disney, other travel destinations, cruise lines, airlines, etc. regarding requirements for visiting parks or cruising can be shared. This information needs to be on-topic for the specific forum and thread where posted.

We will NOT welcome debate or opinion about medical, scientific, or political aspects of the pandemic. There are a few often repeated trigger items that won’t be allowed: No statistics about infection rates, no ranting about individual rights, no “face-diaper” comments, no debate about whether vaccinations or masking are effective, no discussions about which governor or politician or news personality did or said what.

In summary: COVID related discussion should be limited to actual policy and practical application, and NOT veer into opinion or debate.

We understand that you may be passionate in your opinions on this topic and want to discuss or debate them, and appreciate your understanding that there are more appropriate places than the DISboards to do that.

Thank you,
DISboards Administrators
