Ladies, did you agonize about what to wear on your First Day back to school when you were a teen?

I probably spent a few days trying on different outfits then that first morning I would whine to my mother “I have nothing to wear!!!” It was ViTAL to make the correct fashion statement!!

Oh yeah. My parents always took me back to school shopping a couple of weeks before school started and I bought a closetful of outfits I adored. But which one to wear on that all-important first day was SUCH a huge decision!

last night as dh and i were listening to weather reports of 114 degree plus temps back in the area we grew up in i mentioned that heat waves always seemed to happen when we started back to school as kids so none of us could wear any of our new back to school clothes b/c it was too freaking hot! you tended to get to see people's new clothing a month or two down the line.

Definitely a big decision! I have a 7-year-old honorary niece, and she was very carefully planning ahead. She showed me her outfit last Thursday, right down to the shoes!

I just remember going back-to-school shopping and getting some great fall/winter clothes. I would plan to wear one of my new outfits, and then the weather would be abominably hot.

That was when we'd go back the Wednesday after Labor Day. We'd have the Labor Day holiday, a day to get our stuff together, and then school would start Wednesday. Now they go back in mid August.

Schools here have been back to school for about 3 weeks now. It's so strange to me that schools elsewhere are just now starting!

When I was a kid, we weren't allowed to wear shorts to school, so it was always pants or a skirt. I wasn't a skirt type of girl, so it was pants for me, even in the extreme heat.

The funniest back to school outfit was walking out the front door in 6th grade the same time the neighbor girl was walking out. She's the one who always picked on me because my clothes weren't cool enough. The look on her face when she saw I was wearing the exact same outfit she was will be etched in my memory forever!

She moved when we started high school, so I lost track of her. We actually went to the same college and hung out with some of the same people. One of our mutual friends from her high school showed me their senior yearbook. My neighbor and I also picked the same purple dress for our senior pictures. My neighbor and I did become really good friends in college, and we still laugh about our outfit choices for our senior pictures and first day of 6th grade.

Not really- I would put on a pair of ripped jeans and a t shirt and that was my wardrobe for the year- the rattier the better LOL.
