Back to School Bargain Thread

I'm back from Walgreens. I got:

6 packs index cards
3 posterboard (I was going to get 6, but they didn't have white)
2 packs mechanical pencils
8 folders

and 2 packs of pencils that had a tag on them that said .19, but now that I'm looking at my receipt I see that I paid .79. That's what happens when I take my 6yo to the store with me, I wasn't watching. That's also why I skipped the pens at CVS, I'll try to go another day without him.

I have a good bit from my DD's communal class list but I will be picking up these items from Walgreens:

4 pack Expo Dry Erase markers $1.99 (fine or broad tipped)
Fiskar blunt tip scissors .99
more Crayola markers (10 pack) .99
Sharpie 12 pack 3.99

and for my personal use I am getting some of the index cards for .39

These all seem to be pretty decent. Anybody think I might can do better on any of it if I wait longer?

Was it a 5 pack of Papermate mechanical pencils? That was last week's sale. If you can, I would go back and tell them what happened. If its too far, its probably not worth the $1.20 savings.

Those are all good prices. Except for the free scissors at CVS this week (but not Fiskar brand), I think you can't do better.

You can get markers cheaper, but probably not Crayola.

No, they were a 10 pack of regular pencils, not mechanical, but I don't think it would be worth driving back.

Is 99 cents a good price for the 10 pack of Crayola markers or will those go lower? I can't remember form last year.

dd is going to 6th grade in August at the middle school. I have no idea What she will need. We are thinking of

Staples:
(10) 2 pocket folders for= .01
2pks of pencils=.01
2pks of multi purpose paper=.01
post it shapes=$1
pk of ball point colored pens=$1
pk of clear glue(4)=$1

Other then that i have no idea. Should i get loose lines paper, notebook paper(i still have several from previous years), index cards, highlighters???

I know I do want to get her a pk of crayola colored pencils and pk of markers.

middle school is a big change from Elementary . I know she will change classes twice, plus an elective and P.E.

Oh. OK. Those were included in last week's sales too. Plus a 10 pack of blue pens.

Sorry. But I would bring the receipt back next time you go and tell them what happened. I bet the manager will refund your money.

I _think_ someplace might have had them for .88 or .77?? Maybe Walmart and I never shop there, so I picked them up at Walgreens for the .99. It is the best I think _I_ will get.

My 7th grader needs 15 erasermate pens. I have only found them in packages of 4 (cheapest at WalMart/ $1.50). Has anyone seen them in larger packages or for a better price?
THANKS!

Walgreens has them in the 10 pack I believe. I know it is bigger than a 4 pack but not quite sure of the price. I know it wasn't more than $3 though. I prefer those for my daughter as it makes it nice to erase rather than have all those lined out areas.

I am Back to School shopping for DS (7) and DH (College Prof). DS's PTA does back to school packs for a fundraiser, but they are $139 this year! I thought I would try to do it on my own, and after reading on this thread, I got inspired!

I just got back from shopping... Went to CVS, Michael's and Staples

At CVS, I got the scissors (DS) and pens (home use), both free after ECB.

Michaels: not looking for school supplies, but DS needs some paint brushes. I decided to wait for tomorrow to use my 40% off coupon, and look at Hobby Lobby to see if they're cheaper! I did find some Crayola Color Explosion kits on clearance for $2.99!

Staples: I was disappointed because they were out of the 4GB flash for $9.99 (DH) and the folders for 1cent were jewel tones...not a big deal except DS's school specified red, blue and green. Blue was either a tea color or a deep almost purple, and green was not green. Because it is a communal thing, I picked up 5 red ones and a yellow one for homework - we had a hard time last year turning in homework because it always ended up crumpled in the bottom of his book bag! The folder solution is working well!

I did get 2 of the packages of pencils, 2 of the printer papers, 2 packs of the $1 Bic Atlantis pens, 2 packages of scissors (one for home and one for DS) for $1 and printer ink (needed it for home, plus there was a $5 off coupon in the ad in the paper. I still ended up spending $47! We'll see after the rebate on computer paper how it turns out...Ink is killer!

Mum4Jenn I noticed your list includes Post It notes, what do they use those for?

I cannot speak for her, but in many schools, post-it notes are used for "noticings" that students make while they read.

For example, they can write down a thought or question they have while they are reading, and stick it in the book at the spot that prompted the thought or question. Then, during class or small group discussion, they can refer back to the notes.

Also, sometimes they are used for the "Parking Lot", which would be a spot on the wall for students to stick post it notes with questions or comments from a lecture or class discussion. The teacher can look at the post its and address the questions in the next lesson.

Office Max has a 4 GB thumb drive for $9.99 Sunday and Monday only.
