Back in the day

Omg...you sound like my Ex Husband! "why can't you just pick it off" Uh...because onions and mustard are gross and you can still taste the mustard if you scrape it off. Thankfully I am married to a wonderful person now who doesn't freak out if I order a Quarter pounder with cheese with JUST KETCHUP.

I don't see the big deal....most things are made to order anyway. :confused3

So I suppose the food runner should just be allowed to decide what everybody eats?

"Okay I'm picking up 5 Big Macs, fries and Root Beer. Anyone who felt like having a cheeseburger, chicken sandwich, fish sandwich, hamburger, or different beverage is SOL."

Where I used to work, someone would occasionally go out and pick up food for everyone. Special orders were not a problem at all. Before the person left everyone would write down what they wanted on a piece of paper. When the person ordered the food she would simply hand the paper to the person taking the order. That made it easy for everyone and there were rarely any wrong orders.

This is what we do...

I wouldn't have a problem with any of those requests.

If you don't want people to order what they want, don't offer to bring back lunch for them.

I agree. How ridiculous to complain about that. If you don't want to do it then don't offer. Why should someone have to eat something they don't like (or in this day and age are possibly allergic to) because someone else offered to get it for them? Since when is it "I will go get lunch but only if it is what I deem OK".

ETA-Ditto writing it down. When I worked and we all were putting in an early morning, late night or weekend often someone would offer to go grab something to eat and we all just wrote our orders down so they could read exactly what we wanted. It was never an issue.

Ha..exactly!

I have a large family and we all like our food different ways. This is exactly what I do. Just make sure that the writing is easy to read, no shorthand. The cashiers seem to like it.

Anytime we needed to do any kind of special orders, we'd call in the order rather than placing the order at the counter/drive-thru.

I have never called in an order to a fast food restaurant. They are really good at taking special orders.

Until all these fast food/drive through threads I have NEVER heard of anyone calling an order into a fast food place before. In the case of the OP though I would assume one person would still need to call and relay the order, including the "picky orders" (apparently traumatic for the OP) unless every person was going to stand in line and get on the phone and place their individual order (silly!).

:lmao: You got a point there. Lol! I suppose it really doesnt take up a lot of extra time requesting "no onions" or "extra pickles". You can always write it down if you dont think you'll remember.

I am the runner of lunch here at work. I don't mind it, I actually get a longer lunch that way - my times starts when I get back with the food.

I have a note pad that I write down everybodies orders on. I have my own short hand for what they want. Everybody tells me I would make a wonderful waitress, as they never get their order wrong.

More for my convenience than for the restaurant's or other customers :)

That said, I can't honestly say we have ever had to do it for a typical fast food restaurant. Normally, when I say I'm headed to a FF place, everyone else would rather just eat whatever leftovers they have in the fridge :lmao:

You're dead to me now :(

My husband and I now call these "First World Problem"s.

and yeah, I like a cheeseburger with nothing but cheese on it.

This thread reminds me of a former co-worker. She and I were partners, we worked together on the evening shift as dispatchers for a regional medical dispatch center. I was the dinner 'go getter' usually...at least for the first couple years because she was more experienced. She wanted her burgers plain...that is a burger and a bun and NOTHING else. There was no 'just pick it off'. If there was any hint of ketchup, mustard, pickle, etc. she would not eat it, no way no how. You'd think this wasn't such a hard request, but would not believe how often people would get it wrong.

I used to hold up the line by opening the bag and then her burger and verifying before pulling away! LOL

This was my twin DDs when they were kids. I'd go through the drive-thru at Wendy's and asked for "two cheeseburgers, completely plain with nothing on them except beef and cheese"(I know that's redundant but it seemed to work most of the time). Of course you have to look inside the bag, and unwrap the burger before you pull away from the drive-thru window just to double check.

With respect to the OP, I'd be happy with whatever you brought me for lunch. If I were especially picky about something I'd decline your offer and get it myself. Getting custom orders at fast food places is a pain in the neck.

I see where you're coming from and understand it's only a vent.

For me, it's kind of a PITA when everyone has special orders, but, not because it's hard to order....It's that if the order is ever wrong, it seems like it's somehow MY fault.

"Bob, I told you I wanted honey chipotle dijon barbeque sauce, and they put plain honey chipotle sauce on it."

"Sorry, better luck tomorrow."

I'm not a big fan of someone else ordering my pizza or subs for me. They always seem to get it wrong. No I do not want a pizza deluxe with mushrooms, olives and onions. I just want plain cheese and pepperoni. Um, a turkey sub with mayo and lettuce is great, why do I have to have onions, peppers and tomatoes?

I don't complain though. I just pick half my food off the plate and eat what's left. It's hardest when its pizza though. Those ingredients are baked in with the cheese.

Best way to do it is to write down all the orders. Then the restaurant is blamed if they get it wrong.

If you're going to volunteer for delivery boy then you don't get to complain about taking orders, unless you are also paying for the food.

Yep. And I'm with the OP on this one. I have no problem running to McDonald's for 10 burgers, but when people want a "special order"...forget it. I'm not getting into that. Take it or leave it.

Lol....I don't mind the flavor of onions and I love onion rings...but the crunch of an onion on my burger grosses me out!! Mustard is just plain old nasty!!

I used to get grossed out by slimy onions, not so much crisp ones. My grandpa made wonderful chili, but he'd put big hunks of onion in it & I'd gag when I bit into one. Tastes have changed for me A LOT as I've grown, but yeah I understand where you're coming from :)
