Back from Wonderland:wAlice,Madhatter,ChesCat&White Rabbit 11/11Thank You

Well, while it may be prudent for French Minnie to steer clear of Jedi Mickey and his dynamic, charismatic ways, sometimes the pull of destiny (or the Force ;)) is just too strong. If they are meant to be together, she shouldn't fight it.

And I am totally up for a colonial history tour with LL and Marc as Abigail and John! :thumbsup2

NOW BACK TO OUR REGULARLY SCHEDULED PROGRAM...

CHEFS DE FRANCE & A WET JAPAN...

Alice and Hatter had successfully completed their KP mission in Mexico and Rabbit and I had ridden the Gran Fiesta tour...It was getting closer to dinner and although we still had time...we wanted to get to France so we would have time to see Impressions de France and we could meander at bit...

We passed by Canada and I noticed the film now features Martin Short...hmm...haven't seen this one...may have to make it on our next trip if I can ever attain Le Cellier ressies or continue my streak of being the only DISer who has never been there...:confused3

On the way I had the idea that we would pop into the UK and see if either the British Invasion Band was playing (for Rabbit) or if there were characters hmmm...like I don't know...maybe ...Alice or Mary Poppins...;)...but alas due to the rain there was no band nor Alice or MP...I did purchase a new version of Alice in one of the shops however...because really can you ever have enough variations on the story of Alice in Wonderland...I think not...there were also some nice copies of Mary Poppins -I was eyeing...

(BTW-It is killing me not to start a PTR about Alice 16th next year...but I am going to be disciplined and finish this TR first-and I do have some good stuff -at least I think- so coming up at the Studios and Pirates League and our Pirates and Pals cruise that I do want to write albout...

:ccat: I have an idea about having a suprise for her each day-some bigger and some smaller...but one of the smaller things I thought might be fun would to get her 3-5 books that are the basis for Disney Movies/characters...and have the characters sign them...ie...Alice In Wonderland, Mary Poppins, Peter Pan...and give them to her one of the days with a beautifully crafted (If I do say- letter from myself...saying something to the effect of no matter how much you grow up...don't ever get rid of the spirit of childhood, etc, etc.,etc......I don't know if this is beautiful or smaltzy and if the characters will sign books...hmmm does anyone know?...)

Ok... back to World Showcase...

Off we toddled to France...

Ah France...I love this pavilion too-so pretty-so full of yummy things to eat and smell and look at...

David was making a case for his 3rd crepe...Hatter was like all about "well we're eating dinner in an hour and" ...(Normally I would totally be behind this...but we were on vacation and Rabbit was so into these crepes...-just the plain sugar ones) I thought we should let him have one...and I wanted one of those Grand Marnier Slushies that I had seen earlier...It was quite yummy-just a little alcohol-a nice aperitif...I have to figure out how to make it at home-It would be a great brunch drink...:cool1:

Alice in the meantime wanted to go into the perfume store...she had money burning a hole in her pocket...She came out all agog telling me that there was this Annick Goutal fragrance that she wanted and the CM in there told her that you could only get it there and that Goutal had made it for her daughter...and it smelled yummy...

Well yes Goutal perfumes all pretty much smell yummy...I got one last year as an anniversary gift-they are pricey but very, very nice indeed...in fact Goutal had made "Petite Cherie" for her daughter...but World Showcase was not the only place you can buy it-I had in fact seen in in Nordstroms...I decided not to burst her bubble-it was pretty, and it was special buying in here...

(all I can say is it is a good thing that Alice is such a good student because she is going to have to go to a good college and get a good job to be able to support herself and her desired lifestyle...actually Alice is an interesting dichotomy...she can get really into high end food and shopping but she can also get pretty jazzed by reading a good book, or going to a museum with me or having a great hamburger or making a great find at the dollar store...so I guess you could say... she is pretty well rounded...:lmao:

Smelling lovely-well Alice and I that is, We all made are way over to see Impressions of France...
This movie is such a sentimental favorite...of mine...I love it...I will allow that it is the tiniest bit dated...but there is something kind of comforting in that...I didn't know if Rabbit would like it but he seemed to -he sat there quietly the whole time-probably making mental notes of what to expect in France...

Oh no-as we left to exit the building and the shop...we saw that outside it was absolutely pouring...like let's build the ark raining...fortunately we didn't have too far to get to dinner...

Chefs de France had a line to check in but at least it is under an awning...The whole experience...it eez so French...the hostess takes her greeting and checking in duties very seriously as does zee host...

This restaurant is really lovely and bustling inside just like a French bistro would be...

We had a lovely seat by the window-so we got to watch the poor passersby trying to manage the rain the best they could...some didn't seem to care at all-maybe they had had a few of those Grey Goose Slushies and others looked like they were desperate for some sort of cover...I was feeling very grateful to be seated inside looking forward to dinner...

We were greeted by our server...a lovely young WOMAN from Normandy-(ummm apparently they have women servies too...:confused3 I was kind of looking forward to one of those waiters I had read about...;)..)who promptly made sure we had bread and water while we perused the menu...

I had decided that I would try to eat lighter this night...select a "healthier choice" if you will...I have no idea why I came up with this idea...This was not the best place to execute this idea. We were on DDP so we all got an entree and a dessert but Chefs has a set menu option for Dinner as well...that you can do on the DDP-and looking back on it-that's what I should have gotten...It is couple of choices for apps...a couple of choices for entrees and a couple of choices for dessert...I could have had a nice salad with blue cheese or French Onion soup and short ribs and a lovely creme brulee...(which is what I should have done) and as it was I wound up with the creme brulee for dessert anyhow...

I decided to go for the Bouillabaisse - sauteed scallops, mahi mahi and black tiger shrimp served in a saffron seafood broth with potatoes and fennel with a house salad first.

Alice went with canard au miel, haricots vert et pommes de terre douce - Roasted breast of duck and leg confit, french green beans and sweet potato, spicy honey sauce with Salade de chevre chaud - Baked goat cheese with walnuts, fresh grapes, tomatoes, endives and arugula salad.

Hatter went with theFilet de boeuf grille, sauce au poivre noir Gratin Dauphinois et haricots verts - Grilled tenderloin of beef with a black pepper sauce original potato gratin of Savoy and green beans and

young Rabbit had Filet de Limande Saute avec Haricots Vert et Tomates - Pan roasted flounder served with green beans and tomatoes.

100_0840.jpg

Poor Rabbit-we hardly ever photo the kid's food...:confused3

Hatter and I had glassed of wine. The salad were lovely...although I'm betting that French Onion soup was pretty lovely too...

When the entrees came...I liked everyone elses-mine was ok...but very bland..I couldn't see or taste much in the way of broth and well the shrimp and scallops were just kind of plain...Alice's duck on the other hand was lovely...and she is a good sharer so I got to have some...Hatter liked his tenderloin as did Rabbit his flounder...I gave him some of my shrimp-he seemed to like them...and he gave me his grilled tomatoes...

100_0844.jpg

100_0845.jpg

100_0843.jpg

For dessert...I opted for the creme brulee...IT was quite yummy, Alice had a crepe dessert and I'm not sure what Hatter had-but it was good...Next time I think I'm going to go for the Menu and stick to the really tried and true French classic dishes...what I had ordered really wasn't bouillabasisse-it was plain shrimp and scallops with rice...not bad -just not worth writing home about...

Ah but I forgot one very important part of the dining experience...Remy...I had forgotten all about him being there and was totally taken off guard at one point when Alice and I excused ourselves to go to the Ladies Room...we were walking by some tables when voila...I almost jumped...because out of the corner of my eye...I saw a moving rodent...it took a second to register...In the film he seems larger and he talks...here he was definitely more rodenty...once I recovered...he was kind of cute...and he seemed to be quite the crowd pleaser...when we returned to our table I told Rabbit he was on his way...and rabbit was beside himself with excitement...He really was a lot of fun...after the initial shock/surprise....

100_0839.jpg

100_0838.jpg

Well fed and happy we made our way to the front door...it was still pouring...oh well...we were going to brave it because we had a date with Japan...

We all love Japan...Hatter thinks its architecturally interesting, Rabbit just has that ongoing affinity for Asian culture...and Alice and I also think its pretty and love the store there...(seriously if it weren't for the boys starting to get bored we could probably just look through there for an hour...)

We first wanted to swim our way to the very back of the pavilion where there WAS a sort of tin toy/robot display-BUT it was closed and in the process of redoing...(It was unclear if they are permanently changing this exhibit or just redoing it but I was dissapointed becasue I knew that Hatter and Rabbit in particular would have enjoyed this...

But despite that and the rain ...the store was still there a treasure trove of goodies...I could spend a lot of time and $ in here...
There are tons of little and not so little goodies...there is the fun candy, the lovely dishes, the wallets and handbags, the clothing, the jewelry, the books, the kids stuff-you get the picture...

Also I found a great little Alice in W notepad and stickers (I'll have to take some photos...)...I also bought a book on Japanese culture and a wallet...Alice got some notebooks/paper, Rabbit found the Bakugan and got a Domo t shirt (Domo is an interesting stuffed furry character that Rabbit loves... and Hatter got some kind of shoe inserts things...that are supposed to massage your feet when you walk-but I haven't seen them recently-I'llhave to ask about them...

Alice needed the restrooms so we went upstairs-where the restaurants are located-Teppan Edo and Tokyo Dining-talk about packed...WOW...we had never been up here...it looks like so much fun...We are definitely going to have to eat in Japan when we come back...We snapped a quick picture going by Tokyo Dining and Teppan Edo...

100_0847.jpg

100_0846.jpg

Yeah-don't mind us-we aren't eating here-we're just being noisy (curious)

The boys had finished their purchases but it was still just pouring so we decided to take cover and just wait the rain out...it was kind of nice just relaxing hanging there...people watching, checking out the architecture of the pavilion....it was kind of one of those moments-when you are actually in the moment...

100_0848.jpg

100_0850.jpg

100_0851.jpg

but finally we made plans to get back-in this rain there was no way we were going to go back to the front entrance of Epcot...we would go out the back and take the ferries to one of the Epcot resorts...in this case Beach Club and grab a cab...

The ferry ride was really nice...anytime you can access one of the parks/hotels via water-I just think there is something so special about it-that and the fact that the whole Boardwalk complex is just magical lit up at night...If/(When we buy into DVC-it will probably be on resale at the BCV or I'd actually consider the Boardwalk-I'd just have to get past that Clown Pool-creepy...

We got our cab back to AKL and that "Welcome Home" sign looked so good...

It was time for baths and bed because next morning we had...

A DATE WITH TOY STORY MANIA AND STAR TOURS AND THE JEDI ACADEMY...

I totally think you should plan a Disney Wedding and Disneymoon! There couldn't be any other type of Wedding for them! :rotfl:

I Know -how cool would it be to order the planning DVDs-I could even get them a wedding planner-I just wouldn't mention that they were only 9" tall...:lmao:

:lmao: OMG Patricia!! Your too funny!!! I love it!! :worship:

JM and FM sound very similar to my parents! Upon first meeting they hated each other!! My mom thought my dad was brash, arrogant and just general to rough around the edges. My Dad thought my mom was an uptight snob! But, because they had mutual friends, they saw each other frequently.

Long story short, they grew on one another and have been happily married for 41 years as of yesterday!

I can see FM's reservations though. She needs to follow her heart and perhaps a little bit of the force!

Thanks-one person's funny is another person's unbalanced...but I'm mostly balanced...;)

That's a really sweet story about your parents...:lovestruc

I know Poor FM-may the force be with her...:lmao:

I LOVE your saga of French Minnie and Jedi Mickey! So clever, and such fun!

Thanks...:goodvibes..clever and fun so much nicer than warped and disturbing...

Ah, I can understand FM reservations. Jedi Mickey seems like he could be a bit of a risk taker. What to do, what to do...

It is a dilemma...:confused3

I absolutely had to stay up pass my bedtime to read this update, it was magnificque!!!! Oh French Minnie and Jedi Mickey had the most amazing, romantical afternoon in WS, however I feel that is where it should stay! While I agree true love should never be denied...I have heard of this story about the one Jedi who dared to love and yes it did end badly...very badly! LOL!!!!

Great update...I loved the pictures!!!!!

They did have a romantical afternoon...In full disclosure I'm afraid I might have to show FM the videos of those stories about the other Jedi who dared to love...only I'm afraid I might need to have some smelling salts near by in case she faints...:faint:

It's a shame though...if things worked out...I think Nobby would have been just the one to marry them...assuming he's ordained or something like that...

I do agree with Jen, FM needs to end it, let him down gently, but end it all the same.

You're probably right...but maybe they'll have one more special rendezvous in Paris...;)

I love it!

The tension, the romance, the angst.

I agree, a Disney Wedding and Disneymoon are in order. Or at the very least a Planning Journal

:)

You have no idea how tempting that is...If they were registered (under aliases of course-to keep it secret from the Jedi Council) can you imagine the awesome Mickey Mail they'd have coming to their current residence...here....:lmao:

:rotfl:

I think they should just go for a passionate, torrid affair and live with those memories! The realities and pressures of married life would surely accentuate those pesky differences;)

Yeah...Jedi M doesn't really strike me as a settle down kind of guy...:confused3

If you all come up here for a Colonial Tour, I will totally do some sort of Colonial Character Breakfast. Marc & I can be John & Abigail Adams. ;) They also have character reenactments in Concord! We could hit up the colonial things, Salem, The Freedom Trail in Boston and Plimouth Plantation! It would be a fabulous time. OH! We could even go to Strawberry Banke in Portsmouth, NH. That's right where I used to live and we've done many tours over there, it's fascinating. :thumbsup2

Ooo-I read about Strawberry Banke when we were in NH and Southern Maine-but we never got there-sounds very awesome...sad we missed it-I'd love to go...:yay:

You guys would really and truly dress up...:goodvibes?

If you promise to learn to sign their signatures so we could have autograph books...that would seal the deal...:thumbsup2

:thumbsup2

I have a feeling that there is still some more to play out in the relationship saga of JM & FM...:lmao:

I'm totally up for a LL/Marc history tour...It could be her very own Adventures by LL New England Colonial History Escape...(I'm just wondering if Marc is ready for his part...;)

Thanks Patrica LOL...Now I have a gnome who is going to insist on being able to get on the computer when we get home and get his online ordination certificate...now we are going to have Rev. Nobby LOL!!!!! Sheessh LOL!!! :rotfl:

Any excuse to watch said "story" is a good excuse to me...love that series! Someday David and I will have to talk Star Wars...as a huge fan can't wait to see his foray into becoming a jedi!!!!! I'm sure he was THRILLED!!

Loved this update!! Chefs is always one of my faves and I really really enjoy the meal there...so good!! Creme brulee is my favorite if you didn't already know that!!

Japan is the one spot I didn't stop on my last trip and I'm going to remedy that! I really have heard so many wonderful things about that store I really want to do some shopping in there!!!!!

What a great evening you had, despite the rain!

I totally agree with you about the Epcot Resorts. We stayed at The Beach Club last time, and fell in love. That is where we will buy points eventually, too.

Denise

Okay guys...when are we doing this?

Ooo-I read about Strawberry Banke when we were in NH and Southern Maine-but we never got there-sounds very awesome...sad we missed it-I'd love to go...:yay:

I kid you not....today I found out there is going to be a Colonial Faire...where they sell Colonial Clothes! I am so going to get business cards so we can buy clothes. ALSO they are doing Contra Dancing so maybe Marc & I can take a few lessons. :rotfl2:

I grew up in Kittery which is right across the river from Portsmouth so we did do a lot of local history at Strawberry Banke. They do a lovely holiday stroll where you walk from house to house and see traditions, it's very nice.

Adventures by LL....Hmmmm. I like it. Maybe I can start my own Touring Business. :rotfl:

Your meal at Les Chefs sounded very yummy. I think that pre-set menu is a good thing, I really enjoyed my lunch selections from it in May. :thumbsup2

I agree with you on the store in Japan, so much fun to browse! I can't wait to go shopping there again.

I always check out the Mary Poppins books in England. One day I'll break down and buy one.

I know the feeling! Milk this one though, it will make the PTR last even longer! :)

me no know about characters signing books but I love your ideas..

Very special. And good of you to not say a thing. I need to go in there next time!

The whole experience...it eez so French...the hostess takes her greeting and checking in duties very seriously as does zee host...

This restaurant is really lovely and bustling inside just like a French bistro would be...

Ah but I forgot one very important part of the dining experience...Remy...I had forgotten all about him being there and was totally taken off guard at one point when Alice and I excused ourselves to go to the Ladies Room...we were walking by some tables when voila...I almost jumped...because out of the corner of my eye...I saw a moving rodent...it took a second to register...
Too funny about Remy! He is one of the main reasons I want to go here. Well, I want to go here regardless but it's not on DH's top 10 list. Tough bananas. lol!

Teppan Edo and Tokyo Dining-talk about packed...WOW...we had never been up here...it looks like so much fun...We are definitely going to have to eat in Japan when we come back...

Just be prepared to not be seated close to on time. Completely worth the wait mind you, but there will be a wait. And likely no where to sit while you wait.

Great update!

So nice to have your update to read while I'm stalling on the dinner front. It sounds like you all made the best of the rain. I'm sorry that they didn't have the Tin Toy display opened. Your guys would have loved it, I bet you girls would have had fun looking too!
I think the next time we stroll by Japan we need to take some time and go back into that shop, they do have very neat merchandise!:goodvibes

I didn't know there were women servers either....I'll have to ask for one next time I'm there...;)

Sorry your meal wasn't a home run. I applaud your willingness to try something new.

Japan--other than the obvious (I'm Japanese/American), I also LOVE this store. In fact, I think it's the only store in the World Showcase that I spend any time at. We always spend about 1/2 hour in there.

Teppan Edo....is good!

I am so loving the signed books idea for Alice's 16th! I may be stealing that idea as well.

Crepes and slushies in France -- you know I am jotting that down as well -- I fear I may not have enough time or capacity to eat and drink as much as I want next weekend.

I feel the same way about rodents -- there were even parts of Ratatouille where I was cringing a bit so I am sure I would have jumped a little like you did!

So Rabbit likes Bakugan, too, does he? You know we have a Bakugan fan at our house as well. In fact, he was very excited to get some new trap Bakugan from his grandmother this weekend.

Hi,

first I had a wonderful :lmao: w/ JM and FM possible marriage...the pictures were so cute...I especially loved the China woo-fest  it's like a mini Disoap Opera ;)

I can ever attain Le Cellier ressies or continue my streak of being the only DISer who has never been there...:confused3

don't worry we haven't dinned there either, and considering I don't like steak...well

...there were also some nice copies of Mary Poppins -I was eyeing...

WHAT????? Um why were these not there when I was there....:sad2: do you recall me seeing them in 08 and didn't get them and then they didn't have them in March...:headache:

to get her 3-5 books that are the basis for Disney Movies/characters...and have the characters sign them...ie...Alice In Wonderland, Mary Poppins, Peter Pan...and give them to her one of the days with a beautifully crafted (If I do say- letter from myself...saying something to the effect of no matter how much you grow up...don't ever get rid of the spirit of childhood, etc, etc.,etc......I don't know if this is beautiful or smaltzy and if the characters will sign books...hmmm does anyone know?...)

Can't wait for more popcorn::

Scrappie J-

Thanks Patrica LOL...Now I have a gnome who is going to insist on being able to get on the computer when we get home and get his online ordination certificate...now we are going to have Rev. Nobby LOL!!!!! Sheessh LOL!!! :rotfl:

Well Jen-Nobby seems to be something of a Renaissance gnome to me-he's always reading and bettering himself...if he has the calling to become a gnome of the cloth...I say he should go for it...:goodvibes

Yep...we're all about the Star Wars here...(that's another reason that I love his Fandex...because when he starts talking about someone/thing I'm not sure about...I just look it up...;)

Creme Brulee = :cloud9:...all of that creamy goodness under that crackly carmelized sugar crust...:lovestruc

Have to go to Japan, take a looksie and shop...:rolleyes1

What a great evening you had, despite the rain!

I totally agree with you about the Epcot Resorts. We stayed at The Beach Club last time, and fell in love. That is where we will buy points eventually, too.

Denise

It really wound up being a great day...

At night with everything all lit up...the Epcot resorts really look magical...the location is just amazing...:goodvibes

Okay guys...when are we doing this?

I think we should do it next summer...:car:...I want a character breakfast and autographs though...hmm and maybe a tshirt too...

and btw...it is an actually good idea you could start a local touring/travel business...based out of your house even-home office...nice if you have a baby...;)..heaven knows you know how to plan trips...you love history.../you know that area..& .despite the downturn in the economy-travel/tourism is a continually growing sector...you could start out small...maybe do it part time at first...grow it slowly...weekend trips...you can stay where you are...because it sounds like most of these places are driveable from your house...

Your meal at Les Chefs sounded very yummy. I think that pre-set menu is a good thing, I really enjoyed my lunch selections from it in May. :thumbsup2

I agree with you on the store in Japan, so much fun to browse! I can't wait to go shopping there again.

Chefs is really a very pretty restaurant...I think that their pre-set menu is really the way to go...I want to try lunch there...

I do think that Japan has something for everyone...:)

Buy the Mary Poppins book-have you read it?...its just a little differnt in places than the movie...:confused3...another one that's fun is the 101 Dalmations by Dodie Smith-it was the basis for the movie-very similar just a little different in parts...sigh...I like all those English stories...

I know the feeling! Milk this one though, it will make the PTR last even longer! :)

I will milk but it's just a little hard because I want to talk about the other trips and ask for ideas...:rolleyes1

me no know about characters signing books but I love your ideas..
those characters have been asked to sign all kinds of things...I'm thinking they'd sign a novel...

Very special. And good of you to not say a thing. I need to go in there next time!
They are good sales people and it smells like heaven but zay are embellishing zheir stories...

Too funny about Remy! He is one of the main reasons I want to go here. Well, I want to go here regardless but it's not on DH's top 10 list. Tough bananas. lol!
Remy was a lot of fun...I had just forgotten and was well caught off guard...;)

Just be prepared to not be seated close to on time. Completely worth the wait mind you, but there will be a wait. And likely no where to sit while you wait.

Hmm...we'll have to think of something fun to do while waiting...:rolleyes1

Ooo hope your dinner was good...;)

It rains. Its still Disney....:goodvibes

I was a little bit sad about the Tin Toys...I had read all about them in Scrappie's TR and was looking forward to seeing them...and I mean how often do they even change that exhibit...? Oh yes...you must go shopping...:thumbsup2

I didn't know there were women servers either....I'll have to ask for one next time I'm there...;)

Yes our server in Chefs was a lovely young woman from Normandy...she had a delightful accent and was a great server but I was looking forward to one of these French waiters...(male) who I'd read so much about...:confused3...you might be happier with her though...:lmao:

I love the Japanese store-I love the aesthetic of the whole pavilion...do you speak any Japanese?/Have you ever been to Japan?

Yeah I have to admit I think the book idea is kind of cute-just have to figure our which ones/how to get them signed...

The Grand Marnier Slush in France-I highly recommend...:thumbsup2...it's just enough fun without pushing you over the top-especially if you are going to be drinking something else...

Well as cute as he is...Ratatouille is a rat...you're being asked to suspend a natural instinct...:confused3

Yep...Bakugan...Lego...Star Wars...we have the little green men too...I'll bet we have a lot of the same toys in our homes...;)
