Just back from a 6 day Vero trip. This was my familys 4th visit. We absolutely love this resort. We enjoyed our recent visit with the exception of ONE incident. The positives of our stay: OVIR, much needed rest and relaxation, seeing a mama turtle on the beach, Mo-Bay Grill, smores, and yoga.
Now the negative (no flames please), the incident that put a damper on our trip my ds met up with a friend he met on our last Vero trip. It was a coincidence we were there at the same time. They played ping pong, miniature golf, fished at the pond, enjoyed the arcade, and just hung out like most teenagers do. At one point, the two were rolling a soccer ball back and forth in the lobby, they were asked to stop and they did. Later that evening, they were rolling the ball on the third floor, near my room. (I realize they were already asked to stop in the lobby.) I was in my room and when I came out the boys were along the railing talking about some kids jumping up and down in the elevator thus, making the elevator move when it shouldnt have been. I sat in one of the hallway chairs to read my book. Shortly thereafter, the bell from inside the elevator was ringing. A family was stuck in the elevator. Security and the manager helped the trapped family out through the garage. The family got out safely. Ds and his friend decided they wanted to walk around the resort. Ds left his ball next to me and left. I began to read my book, when I was suddenly approached by a security officer. In a harsh tone he asked Whos ball is this? I looked up and he asked again. I said it belongs to my son. He said it has been brought to my attention that someone was playing soccer on the third floor, WE ARE ON THE THIRD FLOOR!
I was shocked at the way he was speaking to me. I felt belittled. I said that the boys were rolling the ball back and forth earlier. He then asked for my name and I gave it to him. He then said PLEASE DESIST FROM ALLOWING ANYONE TO PLAY WITH THIS BALL INSIDE. I said Id put it in my room. He then said AGAIN, DO NOT LET ANYONE PLAY WITH THIS BALL IN THE HALLWAY. I again said I would put it in my room. He then walked away. I sat there a few minutes to comprehend what had just happened. I was just scolded like a child, I couldnt believe it. I went back to my room, with the ball, and told DH what happened. He saw how upset I was and went down to speak with a manager. He was told there wasnt one on duty, but she would be here at 7am. She must have just left.
The next morning, he went to speak with the manager. She apologized and stated that security comes from a temp agency. They are not Disney employees, but she would speak with his manager about this incident. She said that with all the chaos with the elevator, tensions were high. Regardless, I am a guest and should not have been spoken to in such a disrespectful manner. I understand that my son should not have been playing with the ball inside; I handled that after it was rudely brought to my attention. Was it in any way okay to speak to me with a lack of respect? I appreciate the manager apologizing; I just hope the security guard is trained on proper interactions with guests.
Will my family return to Vero? Yes, we wont let one incident affect one of our favorite vacation spots.
