Back from the World 7 pounds heavier... and still full... 13 days of DDP

Really enjoying your reviews. Shame about Marrakesh. I understand what you mean about disappointing meals on the DDP - it is so much easier to brush off a disappointing meal when you're not bringing out cold, hard cash at the end of it :rotfl:

It's amazing! We had a really bad experience at Spoodles, and at home would have complained but for some reason we just let it roll off (after a few choice words between us that is). Maybe it's the holiday thing too, you just don't want to put into a bad mood over a some badly prepared food.

Since I'm on the Spoodles thought... let's do this next. We cancelled Boma for this one... just were too tired to do the bus experience over the AKL and back and were happy that we lucked into this ADR (boy we were out of luck actually!) Were seated outside which was fine. The server we had would have been better off at Denny's throwing up a plate of pancakes. No personality or serving skills at all - maybe reflective of the labour shortage in Orlando. For apps we had mediterranean dips, these were okay, nicely presented in tiered bowls, with fresh pita bread. The calamari was another story, it was like they had emptied half a jar of sliced hot peppers, thrown it on the plate then topped it with breaded calamari - soggy, nasty. For entrees, DS tried to order the game hen but was told he would not like it, strongly not recommended, even though we told her he was quite adventurous. She recommended the pan fried chicken cutlet which was like a large chicken finger, with the salad put on top - warm salad, soggy chicken from salad dressing. DH had steak kabobs - can't remember why he hated it, but believe me he still talks about Spoodles, and turns red. I had the red snapper which was pretty good, by far the best meal. DD had the 4 cheese flatbread which she hated as there was more goat cheese on it than anything else. Goat cheese is great, she even likes goat cheese just not to the exclusion of everything else (seemed like more goat cheese than crust). We had creme brulee for dessert, problem being it was cold - straight out of the fridge. Since we never saw the server, and we were outside we never had the ability to complain. Just when I was ready to hunt her down to order dessert she finally came. We ordered wine and the only thing she did was open and pour the first glass - I hate that we had to pay an 18% automatic gratuity on that! This was by far our worst meal, and probably the only restaurant in all of WDW that we will never return to.

Can you tell me at which restaurants did your dd have to have adult meals as my ds11 will only enjoy kids meals. I was hoping that he would still be able to get them even if counted as an adult onDDP.

I'm so sorry you had a bad experience at Spoodles. We've been twice and loved it.

Sounds like Spoodles and Marrakesh was just not your cup of tea. Though you mentioned you are adventurous, judging by the other placed you went, and the things you ordered, I'd have to disagree. The meals you spoke badly of were the only ones that were not standard American fare. Not very fair to trash places like Marrakesh and Spoodles this when it's simply not your taste. They are not "meat and potatoes" restaurants.

Spoodles always seem to get mixed reviews - I have never been so can't judge but have often thought it doesn't appeal to me. Hope your dining experiences improved after Marrakesh and Spoodles were out of the way :goodvibes

The only place that we used adult credits for her were at buffets and CRT, all else we paid OOP or shared. We did have a minor hassle at B&C where I explained we wanted to use 2 TS and share between four of us and she told me would have to use 4 TS. I did get it sorted though although she was pretty huffy about it.

I beg to disagree with the contents of your post. I was not "trashing" but merely stating my opinion and my experience which is the point of this forum. Take from it what you wish, or leave it behind. Dining reviews are merely that, a review of an experience with a particular meal on a particular day, which can change in any restaurant from day to day, meal to meal. In addition, these reviews also included other aspects ie: service, atmosphere other than food that affected our experience. What you consider adventurous may not be what I consider adventurous, but I find it presumptous that you judge how non-adventurous my palate is from two restaurant reviews.

Boardwalk Bakery - great cappucinos which you can get for drinks on the DDP, and the breakfast sandwiches. I thought they were okay, bread was great but I think the "okay" was because I expecting a layered sandwich ie: ham, then egg, then cheese, whereas it was more of an omlette type sandwich with the ham and cheese cooked in (I think it had cheese?). They are huge sandwiches, four of us could not get though three of them. The rest of the pastries in there looked delicious. Can't beat the view and the ambience though, sitting on the boardwalk in the crisp early morning air, with the fog burning off over the water.

Thanks for the great reviews ! Although I loved Spoodles on our last trip, the first time I went there I too ordered the cheese flatbread and agree that they put way too much goat cheese on it. It's overwhelming.
Sorry you got a bad server that night too, that didn't help.

You are so right. I can't even believe that person could draw that conclusion at all. Obviously, since you had a fabulous lunch at Tangerine Cafe in Morocco, you are NOT put off by 'that type' of food. I'm also sure the poster has no idea what type of exceptional and adventurous dining is available to you in Calgary. Pretty much thinks you're all about "meat and potatoes". :lmao:

Anyhow, I would challenge someone to order something adventurous at Spoodles -- it doesn't exist.

Thank you - not just from me, but from everyone who posts reviews - it takes a bit of guts, not only to post the negatives but also the yeahs as we are open to healthy criticism. We all disagree on what we like or don't like (pretty boring world if we didn't), and often it changes from trip to trip depending on the variables . This time instead of just doing the lurking I really felt like I had to take the time and effort to give back to everyone who had helped me so much in my planning. My husband is a chef and we are very much "foodies" although I chose not to share that in my last post as I felt it was really was irrelevent to those of us just choosing to share our opinions. I will rally on!!

Enjoyed your review. Sorry you missed Bomas it was great. We enjoyed WCC also.

Me too... bummer.. we went to Boma two trips ago and loved it. I do make the chicken currry coconut stew/soup (depends on which recipe what it is called) at home and it is a fave - believe me, if you enjoy anything even remotely exotic this will be a hit - fabulous dinner party fare as it's super easy to make but equally good just for regular dinner (DS13 says it's his fav food in the ENTIRE world and I mean world not WDW:)) Oops, here I go again, major regrets on not buying DVC AKV...
