Spent most of the afternoon and this evening at the hospital with my DD and I'd have to say on a scale of 1 to 10 - with 10 being the best - it was about a number 9 visit!
First of all the bad (kind of) - the witch was there and as soon as my DD pointed her out to me I asked another staff member to get me a supervisor.. She did - I relayed what happened yesterday - she was clearly appalled - she called the "witch" into her office, and the next thing I saw was the "witch" going out the door with her coat on!
Secondly, it seems my DD has become the "belle of the ball" over there - LOL.. No less than 6 patients came right up to me and asked if I was her Mom.. When I replied that I was, they just went on and on about how wonderful she is and how much she was helping THEM.. Evidently she has her own little "depression" group going - cheering each other up - and one of the nurses even took me aside to ask if my DD had ever considered becoming a nurse because she's such a "natural" when it comes to helping other people, listening to them, and really UNDERSTANDING them..
Thirdly, not only did her DH take the time (on his own) to set up an appt. with the social worker tomorrow, but when he arrived at the hospital after work his MOTHER was with him! Whoa!!!!! She brought my DD a dozen pink roses (and of course was thoroughly confused when they took the vase away - LOL..) and also brought her 2 coloring books (both DISNEY) which means she at least is aware of my DD's likes and dislikes.. LOL
What was funny though is watching my DD's MIL.. If someone so much as sneezed, she jumped a mile! Her eyes were darting back and forth like crazy, her hands were shaking a mile a minute and finally we told her if she didn't chill out they would KEEP her there..
Also, my DD got a new roommate this morning who has some SERIOUS problems and started in with my DD right away.. She was literally SCREAMING at her as she was coming in the door - "Don't look at me - don't talk to me - and DON'T come on MY side of the room.. You have THAT side and I have THIS side.." DD just chuckled and mumbled under her breath as she was leaving the room, "Well honey, that's gonna cause some serious problems for you because the bathroom is on MY side of the room!"... LOL Course knowing my DD, by tomorrow morning she'll have this girl singing her praises too..
The other funny thing was - and this part may be rated R for some - is that my DD needed her DH to bring her some tampons and the staff couldn't make up their minds if that was something that was allowed on a mental health unit.. Well - my DD and I got guessing at the possible reasons why they WOULDN'T be allowed and by the time we were done we had the entire unit - staff included - in stitches...
-----------------------------
"Hmmmm...well..the patient might stuff them all down her throat at the same time and when they begin to absorb liquid and swell, she'll suffocate..."
------------------------------------
Headlines in tomorrow mornings newspaper:
"A First In The 35-Year History of XYZ Hospital: Mental Health Patient Ties Strings Of Tampons Together Forming A Tapon Rope That Allowed Her To Escape From Second Story Window"
------------------------------------------
"Well - she COULD tie them all together and strangle herself with them........."
--------------------------------------------------
Gosh - we just laughed SOOOOO hard - and it was GREAT to see her AND the other patients having a good belly laugh..
Now there is a Family Meeting scheduled for 4:30 in the afternoon on Wednesday (with the doctor) and my DD has asked that I attend (along with her DH) - as well as attending the meeting with the social worker tomorrow.. The nurse said that the more family members in attendance, the better for her - so of course I'll go.. I doubt the in-laws will though..
As for my SIL- he is actually LOOKING FORWARD to attending these meetings has been firing questions at us faster than we can answer them.. KEEP THOSE PRAYERS COMING!!!
Oh - and he DID bring in loads of house drawings and all sorts of other drawings for all of the patients to share today..
Seemed funny to hear the patients calling out his name when he arrived like they'd been buddies for years.. LOL
---------------------------------------------------------------
And just between you and I.........shhhhhhhh......................
There's a very nice young man there (a bit older than my DD) that is also suffering from depression that seems to be quite smitten with my DD.. Rumor has it he wouldn't even come out of his room until after she arrived - now he wants to be in the Community Room ALL the time.. Great - just what she needs - some guy trying to turn her head - LOL..............
------------------------------------------------------------
I have a real good feeling.. She's determined - her DH is coming around - and I just KNOW she's going to be okay with time and treatment..
-------------------------------------------------------------
Oops! Forgot to add one more thing.. My DD asked me today if I had told anyone that she was in the hospital - and why.. I replied that I had only told her aunt (my sister) - and about 55,000+ DISer's... She laughed SOOOOOO hard - and then seriously told me she thought that was great because at least I had someone to talk to about all of this besides my SIL.. She also asked me to tell all of you thank you for the prayers and PD and that she's counting on all of you to help see me through this..
Who knows? Maybe when she gets better I can convince HER to join our wonderful family here too!!
Thanks for listening once again...........
