we spent 4 nights at pop and 4 nights at WL...let me say I would not hesitate to stay at either one of these again....enjoyed them both in their own way
we checked into POP late last friday night (maybe 11:30)...I was checked in in about 10 minutes....easy....though the cm was not very friendly, but I was too tired to even care. We were in the 50s section in the building on the left as you approach from the lobby. One of the first rooms ont eh bottom floor...could not have gotten much closer to the main building and we didnt pay for a preferred room at all. The rooms are somewhat small, but who cares...we intended to do alot of park running the first few days and only needed beds. We had enuff room to put our bags down, put clothes away and lay around, so it was all good. The resort itself is much better looking than I expected. I kind of expected square buildings in a wide open field, but the grounds are very, very lush....I was pleasantly surprised. the pools were all very pleasant....I especially liked the bowling pin one as it was not heavily used when we were swimming. I did witness garbage, dirty diapers, etc...but this is because the guests are pigs, not the cm's...all was picked up eventually. Enjoyed the foot court and souvineer shop. Spent some time in the arcade....spent one day walking around the entire resort getting pictures. I was just plain impressed. We stayed at POFQ last year....and with them not having a sit down restaurant...I do not see enuff to cover the price difference between the two resorts. I would rather pay less and stay at POP.
4 nights later we grabbed a cab and headed to WL for 4 nights (this split was planned)....we didnt even ask about moving bags as we have a laptop and all and I just felt better moving it all myself. We were able to get a cab between 6:30 and 7 AM right in front of pop, no problem, just had to wake the driver up
anyway, I sure didnt expect a room at 7:30 am and didnt get it, but I paid for a courtyard view and the cm said "you will have to wait, but you are getting a great room"....he was not overly friendly either, but I started finding that with the majority of cms this trip, so I let it roll off. He gave me a card to call, we locked up our bags with baggage claim and headed to MGM for early entry. we were there just minutes after it opened...perfect timing. Anyway, we had a 12:30 at sci fi and after that we called and our room was ready so we had time to check in, rest and get back for our PS at brown derby. As soon as we walked in our room we realized we were on a whole new level of hotel. We had room 4077...this is pretty much dead center i the back of the building (well, to the side of the sitting areas and decks on that floor) overlooking the courtyard/pool/bay lake. The elevators were two doors away and we could be in the lobby in under 2 minutes easily. We were right over the lobby, but could not hear any noise really with the door closed. The deck was so nice to have when my boy was taking his afternoon naps. The grounds are gorgeous.....breathtaking....any similar word you can come up with....enuff cannot be said about this place....if I had to come up with a negative, it would be the size of the main pool given the size of the resort, but its not a big deal....we could always fit in the pool. I also didnt like the pool bar closing at 8, but we went into the mercantile, bought a bottle of wine and brought that out instead...no sweat. we used the cubs den which my son really enjoyed. the buses were adequate, though I wasnt fond of when we shared with GF...thats kind of out of the way. we did see the water parade which was cute...the boats were nice (though the lines got long).....just a great place and I really, really miss it. I can see myself at that place again someday.....
