June 5 - Final Day
Well the plans for today were: get up, get ready, get packed up and checked out. Then we were going to finish wandering around the hotel, eat, shop, play in the arcade, etc before our 2:30 pick up with Magical Express.
PLANS CHANGED...........................................................................
I woke up about 6:00 am with my DS saying he didn't feel well. Well if you are a parent (especially a mother) you just know when those words mean business. I rushed him into the bathroom. Long story short, he was (how do I say this nicely) throwing up. My hubby woke up and took a turn with him in the bathroom while I quickly looked for the
travel insurance packet. I just kept thinking that there is no way I can put my child on a 4 1/2 hour plane ride like this - not for other people to deal with or for his own comfort level. As I poured over the packet, I could not find anything that told me about just being sick and what to do. I laid in bed and just started praying that somehow he would be OK by the time we had to leave. After he was sick a couple of times, he went back to bed and I got in the shower and got ready.
The morning was crazy with getting ready, packing up and attending to my DS once more. My DD didn't make things easy either - she has (like me) a true aversion to anyone getting sick. Almost Obsessively. So dealing with her was an issue as well. Ipods sometimes are a beautiful thing!
After getting ready, I figured I better stop in at the desk and ask if we could have our room until it was time for our ME pickup. After explaining the situation, the gal extended our room until 2:30. I told her if DS started feeling better and we could get out of the room early, I would let her know.
By the time I got back to the room, DS looked like he was feeling better so we popped him in the shower. Afterwards, he sat at a chair next to the bed and layed his head down on the bed. He then fell asleep like that - watching TV. My poor sick baby. We, hubby and I, continued to pack and DD sat with her headphones in her ears.
As we were packing up, I came to the stash of rain ponchos that I had bought (which we just never used). I had about 20 of them. I did not want to bring them home - because it just doesn't rain here - plus I needed the room in my luggage for all the things we bought. I could not bring myself to just throw them out so my DD and I decided we would give them away.
We headed downstairs to the lobby. I approached someone in the lobby and asked if they wanted some - they said no. I wasn't sure if they thought I was selling them or if they just didn't speak English, so we left them. DD and I thought that maybe out by the buses would be a better spot to hand them out. We came to the first line and I said just loud enough for everyone to hear (but not yelling) "does anyone need rain ponchos?" Someone asked what I wanted for them. I said, "nothing". They looked at me like I was crazy and then very reluctantly said OK. It only took us about 3 minutes to give them all away. It felt really good to help so many people and just do a nice thing.
We then headed back up to the room and DS was awake. He was starting to act normal and said he felt OK. We finished packing and ME came to pick up our luggage. We finished up in the room and asked DS if we should get something to eat. (It had been 3 or more hours since he was sick and he seemed to be fine) He said yes, so we all headed downstairs.
I went to the lobby and informed the front desk that my DS was feeling fine and that we were indeed out of our room. This was at around 11:00 - so we actually checked out on time.
I was very cautious about DS eating. I insisted he eat slowly and not overdo it so I could see how he would hold things down. I was lucky and found a CM at one of the grills who could give us some saltine crackers. He ate a couple of packages of that and a few grapes - only because he was begging.
After we all ate, we headed into the store Everything Pop to do some last minute shopping. DS felt a little tired so hubby sat with him in the lobby and let him lay on his lap. It was about then that I thought maybe I should have kept our room a little longer. DS was not sick by this point, just tired. In fact, I kept thinking about all he had consumed the day before and whether that had anything to do with this. I am still unsure.
After DD and I shopped, we met back up with them in the lobby. DS was awake and feeling fine. We decided to play a few games in the game room. Walking around the resort was out of the question because I wanted to play really low key but thought a few games would be OK. When we were done in the game room, we realized that it had started to rain. Not sprinkle, but really rain. Boy was it coming down. It was at this point that I felt really good about all those ponchos we had given away.
DS and I sat in the lobby. He layed his head in my lap and just relaxed. DD and hubby fooled around outside looking at the rain and chatting with the valet CM's. We knew we didn't have too long before ME (1/2 hour, I think).
As we sat in the lobby, I saw a man approaching wearing one of my designs. I had to do a double take. I could not believe it! I had our carryons on the floor next to us and my DS in my lap. I quickly got up and tried to get close enough to the man to get his attention. By the time I approached him, he and his daughter were walking up to the desk. I certainly could not be rude -so I sat back down with DS, thinking I would wait until the man was done at the window and try again. When he was done at the window, I again got up and walked toward him. He was walking away from me quickly. He and his daughter turned left toward the buses and I could not get caught up to them. I was certainly not going to leave my DS - so no running for me. Oh well, it was enough just to see one of my designs "IN ACTION"! Very cool!
For the next half hour or so, DS and I sat in the lobby (he dozed off once for awhile) and DD and hubby played outside. Then right before ME arrived, DS woke up and again acted fine. In fact, from this point on he WAS fine. He acted normally, ate normally and didn't nap again. Very strange - but I was certainly not complaining my prayers had been answered.
We took ME back to the airport, ate lunch before taking off and had an uneventful flight. I do have to say that the flight in general was pretty turbulent but nothing too crazy. As we landed, it felt so good to be home (well a lot hotter than Florida) but good just the same. We all had a great time on our trip but it is always nice to be home.
