Rebecca P,
I am a single mom with 1 daughter (11), we have stayed here twice & have a 3rd trip planned for 5/21 thru 5/25 & will be staying there again. even tho its just the 2 of us, for the price, we keep getting the 2 bedroom villa at Cypress Pointe, not the Grande Villas. we love the separate bathrooms & full kitchen access. Even tho we stay in the 'older section' I find no problem with it as it is kept very very clean, cleaner than ANY of the All Stars resorts onsite I've stayed in. This place is fine for safety if you ask me. It has always been very quiet & mostly families & older couples. We were there back in March during Spring Break for Colleges & there was one group of college girls staying there but never had any problems with them at all, they were quite mature & didnt seem like the drinking, partying type. The resort is not gated with security guard. The main pool with the Volcano definately has the resort feel. There is a little convenience store next to the pool that sells pizza & french fries (& burgers?). We didnt order fries but alot of people were walking around with them & commenting on how inexpensive & good they were. They also have a little miniture golf area, sand volley ball & a basketball area.
I would not recommend trying to walk to Downtown Disney, but the drive is only about 3-5 minutes depending on traffic. There is a Winn Dixie grocery store & Papa Johns Pizza that I would say was within walking distance as well as a Walgreens in a different direction but you would have to cross 535, a busy street to get to the Walgreens.
