Back from BVC - Expected Better

I don't think I'm making my point, or maybe I'm way off base here.

This is a $1.5 million dollar unit (more or less) we have here. We have paid premium prices; no one can dispute that. I did not buy into DVC because I am thrifty, I bought in because I expect excellent accomodations located in an excellent area. For the most part (98%) I am satisfied with and extremelly thrilled at my investment.

It just so happens that the patio furniture is the one thing that strikes a sore point with me. I expect to be able to spend an hour in the morning sitting in the balcony reading whatever novel I brough with me and drinking my coffee without having to have my butt get sore and having to reposition myself 20 times.

Come on, I'm not asking for teak steamer chairs with a 100% cotton full lenght cushions (although that would be the thing!). Just put in the same thing that VWL has; it is comfortable, easy to maintain, and does not cost a fortune.

Andrew

PS We bought BCV sight unseen. If I had to do it all over again, I would probably buy 1/2 the points in BCV (for the pool) and the rest at VWL (for the themeing, and woodsy location).

When I saw this thread I was very intrigued. We too just returned Friday night from our first trip home to BCV. The OP pointed out some things that we too noticed right away. The fencing around the "gator pond" was filthy. FILTHY!! I noticed this right away.

The many, many times we walked around the BC my DH commented about how BC had metal patio furniture while our was just plastic. I thought he was nuts but I guess he's not the only one who noticed.

We stayed in Villa 340 (studio) that was right on the service road. And, yes, it was very noisy when the patio door was open but we could live with it. We did notice stains on the carpet and on the sleeper sofa. The sink drain stopper didn't work either but none of this was an inconvenience for us nor really detracted from our trip. We noticed that the quiet pool needed some maintenance too but we enjoyed it all the same. Our room was right next to a storage room for housekeeping or maintenance and there was quite a bit of wear to the carpet there and the door stop on the wall was completely bashed into the wall. There was a great deal of wear and tear in the hallways too though. But as much use as this resort gets I figured it was normal.

The one thing we discovered that I don't like is the fact that studios have no VCR or DVD player. Only the larger villas. I don't understand this at all. Just because I'm staying in a studio doesn't mean I don't want to kick back with a movie. We spent a great deal of time in the room this trip because I'm 7 months pregnant. Disney TV leaves a great deal to be desired--especially during the afternoon hours. It would've been nice to have a way to watch something else.

We really enjoyed the BCV especially since it was our first stay at any sort of Deluxe accommodation at all. But we did make the "mistake" of visiting the AKL one morning. BIG MISTAKE!! We want to stay there now!!! Here's hoping for AKL Villas! (holding our breath!)

This was the first trip that my DH wasn't ready to come home the day we left. In my house, that says a lot about our trip!

We did tour the SSR models and absolutely loved them! But, alas, we can't afford more points right now!! So the BCV will do for us!

OK, got the deeds out and did some math. The results are going to blow you AWAY!!!

On my last addon of 100 points, it granted me a .2932% interest in a specific unit (not 29%, but .2932%, that is .002932 of the total unit).

Doing math, each unit has a possible 34,106 points that can be sold. Say that they sell 95% of the points (to leave for maintenance, etc.) That leaves 32,400 points that can be sold. At $80 per point: $2,592,000 per unit.

Come on!!! Are you telling me they can't put in better balcony furniture for that kind of money!!!!! For that kind of money, my idea of having teak steamer chairs with full lenght 100% cotton cushions is not too far off!

DVCPAT, at 32,400 points per unit, an investment of $300 for better balcony furniture would equate to under a penny per point!!

Man, I hope that my numbers are WRONG! Someone, please tell me if I am wrong here...

Just curious, is the patio furniture original or was it changed? BCV sold at a rapid pace so if nobody raised concerns before the sale, it’s difficult to make a change that will affect every member’s dues after the sale.

The plastic patio furniture has been used at all DVC Resorts except HH (which has a wooden picnic table and rocking chair) from the beginning. All of the models have had the same furniture on display - both at OKW's Commodore House sales center and also at the BWV Sales Center since.

The furniture used on the balcony/patios has been unchanged since each resort opened. Nothing has been downgraded.

Actually, Doc. As Jollymom points out, the VWL patio furniture is steel framed, with green vinyl straps. That said.... My tushy is quite cumfy in either style.

We stayed at YC for a couple of days this summer, and did a tour of BCV. I have to say I was thought it was every bit as luxurious, clean, and well kept as any of the other DVC resorts... but I'm not a BCV owner, so perhaps I did not examine it as as critically as you owners.

Thanks for the correction. I missed that distinction when we stayed at VWL! :o

I would be upset if (as Doc pointed out) it was downgraded. If they used top notch patio furnature, another member would complain, why is the BCV patio furnature exposed to the weather/elements. They need to install canopies that will protect the furnature from the elements.

I own at BWV & VWL, I see small things at my home resorts that could be improved. BWV has wooden entry/exit doors in the main pool area. The wood wears/paint chips with the heavy traffic. Metal doors/frames would look and hold up much better.

They are original though so when I check out and that's the only negative, I think "life is good" another great vacation at WDW. I dont get into how much Disney profited from my purchase.

Our porch furniture at HH was the wood polymer that looks like wood that you use on decks. Very nice and no splinters. Trex makes decks out of this material.

We own points at BWV. Wanting to try somewhere new we booked three studios for two weeks at BCV. Each one of the studios had some type of issues that needed to be taken care of. My husband and I had a problem with our mattress, after the first week we decided that turning the mattress that it might help. When we turned the mattress we found a 3/4 inch piece of plywood between the mattress and the foundation. That just showed me that the quality wasn't what I would have thought it would be, plus someone had known there was a problem and decided to cover it up rather than to replace the mattress. On our patio [with the plastic chairs] someone before us had decided to cut someones hair, leaving behind the trimmings. There was even a used band-aid next to the sofa. My sons room never got the scheduled full cleaning the first week. When he called to ask for someone to clean it, they said it was checked off as being cleaned. He told them to come and look for themselves. He asked for clean towels and he was told he would be charged for them. That's when he asked to speak to the manager. He got his clean towels, but he didn't get a full cleaning for another two days.

Many people due to back problems want a very hard surface to sleep on. If you want a back board, Disney brings you the 3/4 inch playwood that you found. Obviously the previous guest requested it and housekeeping forgot to remove it.

I really don't think that was the case with this mattress. It was very uncomfortable to sleep on. What I didn't mention before was that it seemed a little lumpy for a mattress that was only 13 months old at the time of our vacation. I also think that when housekeeping changed the bedding that they would have noticed it. I scratched my knuckle on the plywood when we turned the mattress.

Just returned from the Boardwalk Inn (room 4268) and some of the same issues were present...

- plastic chairs on the patio
- weeds growing at the edge of a 4th floor patio?
- dark stains (mold?) on the bathroom wall

Just goes to show that these same issues are present at a WDW non-DVC resort.
