Hi guys,

Just wanted to say we had a fab couple of days in blackpool.

Went on sunday morning straight to big blue hotel, couldn't check in til 3 but parked car for free in hotel grounds. Got a tram to the Doctor Who exhibition on the prom, DS 9 thought it was great, lots of old original monsters and costumes, DD was just scared!. Then we spent the afternoon in the tower. Haven't been to blackpool for a few years, used to go every year for a day. Some of tower been done up but some parts badly in need of a refurb. Outside could be a beautiful victorian building but it just looks tired. Entry ticket included circus entrance, no animals thank goodness but excellent show, two hours long and very talented performers from all over the world. Did the lift to the top which is an experience! First level is enclosed so good, me and DD went to next open level and it was a bit windy!!!! Didnt go any higher! Back at hotel our room was fantastic, huge double bed and bunks in an annexe for kids with their own tv's. DD is 12 and 5' 2" and is prob max size for the bunks. Ate in hotel, again wonderful food and great staff, mostly scandinavian!

Monday was full day in pleasure beach, I was very impressed in the improvements they've made, much cleaner and many nice food outlets with real fresh food and fruit! Again a lot of staff were foreign, I think polish, but they were all friendly and pleasant. It was fairly quiet so did loads of rides, i bottled going on the big one, and DD didn't want to do it or new infusion - I wasn't going to do that one alone! Grand National used to be my favourite wooden coaster and I wondered why they'd put new lap restraints in - mm, coz its twice as fast and rough as it used to be - not pleasant!!!! DS aged 9 almost cried! Me and DD did Revolution and hated it! far worse than I remember!

Tuesday we did the shops, DD discovered blackpool has really good shops! Went into Sealife on the prom and it was really good, much better than other ones in this country. Then we went back into pleasure beach for DD to do 3 more rides that she liked from the day before - the old wooden Rollercoaster, Space Invader, Avalanche!

The weather ranged from wintry on the sunday to sunny and warm on the monday! Bizarre!! All in all its still blackpool and it still attracts a certain type of visitor, but it definitely looks as though they're trying to attract more families and are improving it from the south end towards the tower. Its amazing how many rides reminded us of Disney rides! Its expensive and it still needs some work, its not disney but we enjoyed it!

glad you had a good time :thumbsup2 my friend is off to blackpool for the weekend ( she isn't that type of visitor though ;) ;) )

Sounds like you had a lovely time, Lynn. We went to the Doctor Who place a couple of years ago and really enjoyed it. I think you did the right thing chickening out of the Big One - that thing put me off coasters for life!
