Back from Beach Club & Wilderness Lodge (saw a rat at the pool)

I've seen rabbits, racoons, deer, squirrels, ducks, geese and even wild turkeys (no not the bottled ones)

The black snakes help too.
.

Great point! And because some people are squeamish about even
non-poisonous snakes and report them to the management, the snakes get relocated and the rats re-appear.

I am so thankful my Daddy raised us to appreciate snakes and other wildlife.
No hysterical females in my family!

They could introduce mongoose like they did in Hawaii. We were sitting at dinner outside at Mariott's Ko Olina and saw a mongoose run by. If I remember correctly, they brought in mongoose to handle the rat problem. Thing is mongoose are day time hunters and rats are somewhat nocturnal. Now they have mongoose and rats.

We love VWL because of nature, but where tested on our trip this April.

There where two snakes. One snake was in the pool. The snake came out of the pool right where the stream hits the pool. it came out of the water very quickly exactly where the life gard has a standing station. The life guard and a dad grabed the snake and put it in a bag. It seemed about 4 or 5'. I thouht about putting this event in my trip report, but know some people would be freaked out so left it out.

My 3 boys and I thought it was cool!

Also we saw a turtle, and some birds on the natre path.

Speaking of black snakes - one time when my parents were staying at Grande Vista they saw a black snake and an employee/maintenance person was going to catch it and take it home with him to put in his wooded back yard (he said they were great for catching mice or rats). So that was a Marriott black snake that was leaving the premises (laughter).

I've been at VWL and seen a small snake in the hot tub. An older lady pointed it out to me just before I stepped into the hot tub (which I thanked her profusely for letting me know that tid bit of information).

that is a lucky black snake. i have a lot of them at my house and some are very old. they are very talented. they can flaten out and slide under your door. i have found several in my house.;)

wouldn't a hot tub be dangerous for the snake since they are cold blooded? i hope he was able to get out when he got too hot.
