Back home Monday after eight nights at WDW. Our first three were in a 1BR at BCV and then we moved to Hawaii at the Polynesian. Both rooms were very clean and in fine order.

At the Polynesian there is construction near Captain Cook's. The store that had become a shop for children, the companion bathrooms, etc. are walled off. A CM told me that area will be the new bathroom area. Makes sense to finish that area first.

Also found the room with the new decor. Couldn't see it very well;) but I thought the new bedspreads were beautiful.

The concierge lounge at the Polynesian now has a cappuccino machine. I loved it for hot water for my tea!

We had great stays at both resorts and met many friendly CMs and guests.

Happy to answer any questions.

So they have already started the renovation in the lobby? I am not surprised you would be one to find the “secret” room. Thanks for the report and glad you had a good stay.

Aloha

Steve

Wendy, I don't know how long the construction will take. However right now you can't even see it from the main lobby. It is down the hallway past the stairs to 'Ohana. Tikiman's site above is the best place to check for updates that I know.

Steve, I wouldn't have found it if not for your clues.;) Actually, I wouldn't have even known it was in the works. My older son suggested the location although I thought it would be in one of two buildings. There are a couple of changes that I'm not so sure will be so great but I guess we'll have to wait and see. Did think the spreads were sumptious looking.:D

If you saw inside the hallway of that building you will see some test carpets and wall treatments. Some I liked and some were not what I would have expected. I like the furniture and the room will look even bigger the way it is layed out but I am not sure about some of the colors. I am sure everyone will love the new bigger TVs.

I think if they do what they said they were going to do in the lobby now it will take many months to have it done. I don’t suppose you got any photos of the construction area, did you?

Aloha

Steve

Wow a cappuccino machine! Wish it had been there last summer. Oh well, yet another reason to go back!!!

Are ther going to be bigger TV's in all of the rooms? If so, when will this happen?:fish: :fish: :fish:

They were working on the new Captain Cooks when we were there 3 weeks ago. The entire old store was walled up and you could hear banging in there. It will be so nice to have a larger food area. Hope it is finished by our next trip. Edited to add that they didn't have the cappacino machine when I was there. That would have been great!

As they redo the rooms in each building with the new decore they will add the new 27" TVs.

So Captain Cooks was closed?

This Monday 10/25 Captain Cooks was still open. I bought sandwiches for the plane there that day.

The shop that is closed was most recently called Maui Mickey's. There is a white floor to ceiling wall erected along both sides of that shop and extending all the way to the door toward the Weatern longhouses. It was a CM in a shop that told me that area would be the new restrooms. It makes sense to me. After those are in place, the old ones off the lobby could be removed to make room for the shops. The entire "hallway" path is still open...it is just that on your left after you make the right turn toward CCs there is now a wall. That wall makes the turn and continues to the door. Sorry no pictures Steve.

Didn't want my answer to be too long or it might not post.:(

I did see the decor in the hall and was hoping it was just test materials. Like you, some I liked and some I didn't. I actually hated that one solid colored wall treatment. Do you know if those are being considered for the rooms or just the halls? I liked the carpet in the room, the beds and chairs. The daybed looked nice but I'm concerned that it won't be as large as the current ones....hard to tell though. I also wondered how sturdy the table was. Didn't see the TV....perhaps it had been removed?

As far as I know many of the things in the halls were tests for both the room and the hall. The carpet I was told was tests for the room not the hall even though it was in the hall. I know the wall treatments were tests for the room as well as the dark color to the bamboo rail because they were working on it when I came through to take photos but I was asked not to. I did get it on video later just so I would remember. The day bed does look smaller because it folds out so it is smaller when not used to sleep on but when only being used to sit on you can have it take up less room. I know they were still changing their mind about some of the designs so who knows what the final will look like.

Cappucino Machine, eh? I loved the one at AKL. Does it have an I.V., though? I'll find out soon enough.

This is wonderful, thanks for posting that detail. I was SO dissappointed with the coffee the last time I was going to bring my own espresso machine this time. You have to bring or ask for bottled water there, too, because the local water will calcify the machine and screw up the pump.

It's important stuff. Down here in SoFlo hanging around with Brasilians, Sicilians and Colombians, "The 3 Masters", I've developed "certain expectations" when it comes to java. :p

I'm confused. Is the old Captain Cooks closed now? We will be staying at the Poly right after Thanksgiving. Will we have a food court to go to? DGS loves Captain Cooks and I love the convenience. Any info appreciated. Thanks a bunch! :)

I think it's not quite like the AKL's machine at the CL.
That one cost over 20K!!!:earseek:
Another LL returned and said it was like a Necafe service station type machine.
But, she said it was good!::yes::

thanks for the update!

HI Tikiman - you mentioned lobby renos and many months...any idea when this construction is to be done. We are going in May and if resort is going to be substantially under construction perhaps I should save the Poly for another time....any thoughts?

Captain Cooks is still open and looks the same as usual. It is the store that was almost across from it in the hallway that is closed and boarded up. That is supposed to be an extension of Captain Cooks.

As far as I knew they were not going to close Captain Cook’s it was just that someone mentioned it being boarded up. I was told they were going to extend the seating area into the shops and the shops would all move up front where the gallery and the bathrooms are. I also remember them saying an arcade would go in next to Captain Cook’s but they said nothing about when it would start or how long it would take. I just figure with all they said would happen it would take a while.

Oh no, an arcade by Captain Cooks!:earseek: I'm sorry to hear about that. I don't care for that noise at all at Gasparilla and Beaches and Cream. Was that for sure Tikiman?

That was what I was told but I also got the impression it would be separate from Captain Cook's but in that part of the GCH.
