We had a fine vacation for 8 nights in a 1 bedroom at BCV. My husband was a volunteer at the PGA Golf tournament and was assigned to Tiger Woods the first day as a standard bearer. He was thrilled and had a great time as a volunteer. We had a very nice 1 bedroom on the 5th floor overlooking the quiet pool. I have to agree that all those bathroom doors are a bit inconvenient. For some reason, I felt as if we didn't have as much space at BCV compared to the other resorts, excluding OKW of course which is huge. My husband had the same feeling although I believe the square footage is the same. It must be the setup I guess. Our villa was very clean. I had to call engineering about the TV in the living room but that was the only thing. Any questions and I'll try to answer them.

In fact, I think I may have ridden the bus with you and your young daughter one day. You were talking about your DH working at the tournament. We went to the tournament on Thursday and Saturday. Had fun. Got to see Tiger Woods and other favorite players up close!!

How did your DH get to be a volunteer? Would love to have the info.

Thanks

I also would like to know how to get to be a volunteer at that tournament. DH would be in heaven if he could be a volunteer at that.

I like to play golf but dont care much about watching( makes me realize just how bad I am ). What I do like about the WDW tourney is they show live shots of the world. I record then FF til the "good" parts come on and watch those. Is that a sickness or are there others out there?

Yes, I bet it was us on the bus. I have a young 5 yo DD and we did ride the bus to the Magic Kingdom every day. Too bad I didn't know it was another DISer. I had my lime green ribbon on my backpack which I'm sure was pushed into my legs. My husband LOVED being a volunteer and was thrilled to get Tiger Woods on the first day. All he did to volunteer was to call the Wide World of Sports/Recreation Dept at Disney and tell them you want to volunteer for next year. They will know the dates of the tournament already. You have to fill out some sort of application and tell them what type of volunteer you would like to be. My husband was a standard bearer (follows the pros assigned to you holding the scores of the players). You get to be right on the green with the players. There is also a scorer ( you have to learn the Palm Pilot for that...I don't believe it's hard). There are people who hold the QUIET signs. There are people who stand on the sidelines for crowd control (but you could get stuck in the woods so it's not a guarantee of a great job). I'm sure there are lots of others. If you want any more specifics, let me know and I'll ask my husband.

luv2dream,
Thanks for the info. Don't know if we'll be back for the tournament next year, but you never know. I bet it doesn't change much from year to year. One volunteer that we spoke with said that they don't give as many perks to the volunteers but it sounded like it would be fun anyway. We got to see Tiger (and your DH!!) on a couple of holes. I thought that was pretty exciting! I would really be excited if DH had walked the course with him in some capacity. He was paired with David Toms, a local guy of sorts. So it would have been doubly exciting. Glad you DH had fun. Do he do something everyday or only on the first day?

PADVCmember@OKW, the dates for next year are probably the same weekend, just look at a calendar and see what they are.

That sounds great! One last question-how far ahead did he have to call?

Check out the PGA web site, they may have the calendar up for next year.

DH volunteered all four days and was a standard bearer the whole time. He was paired with Azinger and Huston on day 2, Ken Jones and Joey Sindelar on day 3, and Ken Perry/Ian Leggett on day 4.

DH called to volunteer after our return trip last October. So he actually called almost a year in advance. They didn't send out any paperwork until this past early spring I believe, but I would call early anyhow.

You mentioned your TV. We were there this weekend in a studio and our "freezer" in the mini fridge didn't freeze. I filled up the two trays and put them in Fri eve and Sun when we left they were still water.. I started to call but didn't. We were also on the fifth floor, 524 I think but had a swamp view, across the hall from you.

mb168,
We were in 536 which was in the exact middle of the hallway at the ice/vending machine location and where the hallway can take a 90 degree turn. You were probably just down the hallway a bit. It's funny that stuff isn't already working as it just opened. However, I believe mine was probably just a connection problem with something loose. They corrected the problem that day while we were out at the parks. I enjoyed my stay at BCV but I still like my VWL!

I called a couple of months ago about the dates for the 2003 golf tournament, and the guy said that it is always the 3rd week in October. How were the parks during this time. We want to go in October next year. I have no desire to go to the golf tournament, but I wanted to know how it affects the crowds?
