Back from ASMu *** Pictures!

DonnaLeah ~ I did NOT have a family suite. I was assigned a handicapped room in the Calypso Building #1, second floor (DH nor I are handicapped!). I took pictures to show that privacy curtain folks ask about. I did not use the curtain because it was only DH and I in the room.

JoBird ~ Yes, there is a hairdryer attached on the wall to the right of the sink in the bathroom. I did not use it, so I can't comment how powerful it is. You are in Broadway? Welllllll, IMO, it's a looooong walk to Melody Hall (bus, drink and food). I took a stroll one night to check out the other buildings. Broadway is a good 5-10 minutes from the food court, depending how fast you walk. Let me look for a pic to show you how far it is.

I stayed in Broadway at ASMu last August for a week. I did not think Broadway was far from Melody Hall. I thought it was a great location and I liked walking by the fountain plus we also found "short-cut". The best thing about Broadway was it was sooooo close to the piano pool. I was surprised at how nice that pool was. It was never crowded during the day. One of the best quiet pools I have been to.

The parks were very crowded during my stay, but AsMu did not seem overly crowded. I definately think it was less crowded and hectic than POP. I also enjoyed walking over and taking pictures of AS Sports and Movies.

Have a fun stay to all of those with upcoming trips.

Look at the center of the picture...the white star is Melody Hall. This is the piano pool by Broadway.

IMO, I feel that Broadway and Country is a medium walk to Melody Hall. Every time you want to get a drink or eat, it's an extra 5-10 minute walk.

You'll see for yourself when you get there!

Thanks Babka!

well, since it's just me and DH going this time- I guess it will be ok.

We really did not like POP- so we are kind of anxiety ridden over staying at this value- but it was a last minute trip ( I only had 4 weeks to plan) so we accepted what we could get without breaking the bank!;) Our fav resort is POFQ- so we are interested and scared at the same time over ASMu!!!

Thanks!

Jo

Thanks for the info and photos of ASMU! We haven't visited ASMU yet but I have read that the Broadway Bldg is very nice! For next year it is between ASMU or ASMO(for value level) or POR. I am leaning towards ASMU but it changes daily.:) ;)

I have read on here that if you are staying in the Mighty Ducks building at ASMo you can easily walk over to ASMu but I was wondering what building at ASMu is closest to ASMo?

Thanks for the review and photos! Have never stayed at AS and always said I never would...well, never say never...now that AS MU has been refurbished think it might be fun to try for a short visit!

Thanks again...and glad you had a great time!!

jrandtysmom ~ The ASMu buildings closest to ASMo are the Broadway Hotel and the Country Fair.

Babka:: Sorry to hear about the crowds, but hope you had a great time, anyway!!
Just a quick question. I noticed a curtain in your room separating the vanity area. Did you have a standard room and not a family suite? I didn't realize that the values had curtains.
We are booked for ASSp in Aug. and I was just curious.

I am pleased to see the curtains. I had planned to take a sheet and some kind of rod thing connected to a 3M hooky, but now I don't nned to.

YAY!

We were there the same time in ASMo and found the crowds to be fine except AK. Never waited for more than 10 min. and utilized fast pass for anything else. The heat was oppressive though.

I found the same thing about crowds. We were there Monday May 5-Saturday May 10. Yes, AK seemed a little congested, but I think that the layout was part of it. I actually thought HS was more so. the actual waits weren't bad.

We arrived about lunchtime Monday, left mid afternoon Saturday. Mon-Thurs. crowds weren't bad at all. Thurs. evening when we got back to ASMu we noticed it seemed much more crowded, and then Fri/Sat the parks were busier. Many school groups Friday. I would have to say Mon-Thurs would seem to be the best days during the school year, which makes sense.

Other than the middle of the afternoon, I didn't find the heat *too* bad, and I am someone who doesn't tolerate heat well. We quickly learned the wisdom of taking a break mid afternoon during the heat. Went back to the room for a nap once, found a quiet, shady place in the parks more than once, and one day took a bus to visit another resort and sight-see there. The humidity wasn't bad, and I think that's why it didnt seem too hot.

I just wanted to add that there seems to be a consensus that the privacy curtains are only in some rooms at ASMu - and of those, most seem to be in the Calypso and Jazz buildings. So, you may want to pack your "plan B" just in case! :goodvibes

I was at the ASMu from May9-13 and it sounds like I had a bit of a different experience. The parks were not crowded at all! Any time you can walk on to the Tower of Terror repeatedly, the parks are not busy. But maybe being a few days later made a difference?:confused3

We stayed in the Broadway section a few years ago, and didn't find the walk to Melody hall to be very long. What's 5 minutes when you hike around Disney all day? Plus, my favorite resort is POR, and I have had much longer walks to the front staying there. Anyway, I wouldn't shy away from staying at ASMu because of the size. It really isn't that big.
