Hi all, we've been back over a week so I thought I'd better come and let you all know how we got on - it seems ages ago now!
Where to start, we had an amazing time (don't really need to tell you guys that!), the trip was certainly what we expected.
Highlights (in no particular order)
- Characters meals - Cinderella's Royal Table, breakfast at Akershus, breakfast at Chef Mickey's - loved them all!
- Port Orleans French Quarter - beautiful resort, loved the size of it, buses to the park were great, pool fab, just fab, fab fab!
- Magic Kingdom - who can't but help love this park!
- Splash and Big Thunder Mountain
- Photopass - so glad we prepaid otherwise we would have missed out on some great family shots
- The shows - Disney do these SO well, particulary liked Monsters Inc Laughter Floor and Crush's Turtle Talk for the audience interaction.
Lows
- One of my cats got very sick with stones in his bladder and ended up having an emergency operation which my neighbour had to supervise. Costs so far £600
- DD2 got an ear infection (from all the swimming) and had to go to A&E in the middle of the night
- the rain. I have to admit that I hadn't realised it was the beginning of the rainy season when we booked, but our dates were pretty inflexible so we would have booked anyway. Had about 4 days without any rain I think and then worked around the weather the other days
- flight home - miserable night flight, so little sleep, wouldn't do that again if I could help it. We were all left exhausted for the week on top of the jet lag, my DD2 was sick a few days after getting home and DH lost his voice.
High and low!
- We ate at California Grill on our last night and witnessed (what our waiter claimed) was the biggest lightening storm. The restaurant was surrounded by lightening at one point and we think it hit a couple of times, an amazing experience - high! Was planning on watching Wishes from there but after waiting till nearly 11pm the restaurant said it had been cancelled, then as we walked to the bus stop the fireworks started, caught glimpses between the trees- low!
DDP worked really well for us, used all our credits and even though a few ADRs needed 2 credits we only paid OOP for 1 meal. Food was good, I thought the burgers in the parks were better than MacDonalds or BK and we had a great variety - Boma, Raglan Road, Biergarten, Tangierine Cafe. Plus I only put on 1.5lbs which I've already lost!
I thought this would be a one-off trip for us, but maybe (just maybe!) we might go again!!!!!
Thanks for all the tips I got from here when I was planning, it certainly helped make the most of the holiday.
