As WDW is one of my favorite places, my friends are thinking we should make the trek to Florida in mid-august. There will be between 3 and 7 of us (depending on who can make the trip, I have a feeling it will be expensive!)
I am fairly familier with the various resorts, and have a request in at DU, but I have no experiance with the"home away from home" places. I know they are DVC. How does that work for us who are not DVC? I would imagine if we have more than 5, a studio or 2 bedroom might be cheaper...how would I go about getting the best price?
Final question, what are some rates people are getting for the AS or any of the mods from 8/18-8/23

I would love to go, none of them have been, but I don't want it to be out of control expensive!

Thanks so much for any help

the cheapest option for a higher end resort is to rent dvc points... they typically go for $10 per point... as an example, I recently got 7nights/8 days BWV peak season 2 bedroom villa preferred view - which required 350 points... at a cost of $9 per point... for a total of $3150... rack rates would have been $6230...
check here the dvc rent/trade forum... good luck and congrats... http://disboards.com/forumdisplay.php?forumid=29

Got the quote back from DU. Looks good. I just hope either 4 or 7 come, not 5 or 6. It's just more cost effective to have 4 or 7:) I think that either ASMo or POR are the best, and cheapest options. Now I just have to convince everyone:) I think I'm going to pay for part of the park tickets on the sly to make it more attractive to everone. I am the bride right? What I says goes!!!:)

Oh, and don't forget to take Tikiman up on his offer...

Yeah maybe I can earn some money for my vacation :D

Steve

I guess my head must be " in the gutter"...what would your wife think? (Maybe "we're going to Disney World?) Ren

Yeah her thoughts would depend on how much money I came back with ;)

Funny that's what my husband says when I tell him I'm going to work at Hooters. :p ;)

We did a very similar trip in October for a friend's 50th birthday (Pooh's Pal from these boards). We rented points from a DVC member and got a 2 bedroom at BWV. It all worked very, very well and we had a blast!! I cannot remember exactly how much it cost because we included all tips, valet parking, minivan rental and a limo ride to and from our airport here in Mass. There were 7 of us and it was about $450.00 for 4 nights. Everyone was responsible for their own park tickets(some of us fanatics already had PAP's) and airfare, we got very lucky with airfare....$110.00 round trip direct flights, Boston to Orlando. So I would guess that the total with spending money included was a bit over or under $1000.00 and we went deluxe all the way. It was so much fun!!!

Our niece had her party at PI in Jan. and they all stayed at the AS but I don't know what they paid. They were locals. Guess where the Bachelors ended up? PI same night. Myself I think it was planned.LOL If WDW doesn't work out,Come to Vegas we can fake the Polynesian you can have the backyard with palms and pool. Sorry we don't have a volcano slide (but we can find you one just down the street) I'll make the LapuLapus and it would be a much shorter trip for Tikiman and yourself to see him dance.;) Enjoy your party.:)

If there are Lapu Lapus I am there!!!! Can I bring the Jet skis?

Steve

OK, I'll bite -

What are Lapu lapu's and will I lose all senses if I have one?

A Lapu Lapu is actually a drink the the old Don the beachcomber invented in the 40’s or 50’s and became a hit at Polynesian style restaurants and Tiki bars. The Tambu Lounge at the Polynesian has their version and it is Tropical fruit juices and Myers dark rum served in a fresh pineapple topped w/ Bacardi 151.

You won’t lose your senses because you won’t remember you have any.

Steve

Ooh Baby,

That's my kind of drink. We'll definitely have to stop at the Poly bar while we're there.

Sure but do they run on sand?;) I don't think we have any water left in LakeMead.:(

This site fits the mood: TikiLounge

No watter in lake Mead??? It is the worlds largest man made lake!!!

I do have a new quad for the sand just incase but I guess all of this is off bekkiz original post huh.

sorry bekkiz

Yea its a moot point LOL Yea the lake is way down. Supposedly the lowest level in history. How much are going to miss the Polynesian this year? You're going to Hawaii right? Not a bad tradeoff.:)

Yeah we are going to Hawaii but we will miss not returning to WDW and the Polynesian. We don't know what the 4th of July is like with out being there. So when do we get to come down to Vegas and visit?

Steve

Oh I don't mind...it keeps me entertained:)

So I think only 3+me will come on this trip (which is a-okay by me. It's hard to travel with more than that)
Now we just have to find cheaper airfare, decide between the two Port Orleans resorts and go. I'm leaning towards POR, in either case I'm keeping my fingers crossed for some good codes:)

I think I may also treat them to an Illuminations cruise, hopefully I can book that as well!

ps madcoco, thanks for the link:)
